@connieandbobby i bought it from solarsizzler(dot)com. they had some for $49.00 and some for $69.00. unfortunately the website does not seem to exist anymore.
i alway wonder my self if is possible to install some kind on optical fiber system to redirect the solar beam and use this green power inside your house, i appreciate your answer or even better a video explaining this
@EnavSounds May be a bit late (5 months) but these parabolic dishes can heat up water so.......if you use this to generate steam then you can then, with the right set up, convert this steam into kenetic energy (see steam engines) and this in turn can power a suitable generator etc etc.
So yes the chance of getting power into your house is good its just how you utilise the power :)
your going to need this when the power goos off for good. a campfire will get you killed because smell carries for miles so where there is fire their is meat, you.
That dish is great for camping!! Everybody should have a few of these in case if the economy does come to a crash. I will be getting at least 3 of these. Thanks for showing me that it works good. I can tell that you are being honest by the surprise in your voice tones. Good video.
Thanks for making this video. I like it very much.
Great job you did their I hope your enjoyed your meal :)
I have a question does the parabolic come with the thing under it. the 3 legs ( I dont know how to say it in english sorry) trypot you said but I dont know if you mean the 3 legs.
Thank you. The parabolic does not come with the tripod (stand with 3 legs). You can get one of those several places. Walmart sells one for about $30.00
I was just thinking about this. I wonder if there are any safety concerns over having what amounts to a laser beam of sunlight shooting through the open air. Any danger of sticking a body part in the path of that?
@WastedPo It's a bit safer than the laser beam, because it has a fairly set focal point, unlike a laser which is much straighter.
It's like having a magnifying glass, when we were evil children burning ants, too far away and the ant just gets a warm hug feeling, opposed to the feeling it got when you got more evil and learnt how to fry them. *shakes head at himself*
sure, it runs off of a solar powered battery bank that i have tied to solar panels. for more information check out my video entitled, "small residential solar power system"
That looks like a great little dish! Where did you get it and for how much?
A square yard averages about 750 watts, And the ratio of area in a circle inscribed in a square makes it 750 * .7854 = 589.05 watts. If you wanted more heat you could always add another dish.
If you had some kind of transparent cover (maybe a plastic turkey roasting bage over the top of the pans you would lose less heat to convection.
Yes, that dish works amazingly well. I bought it from solarsizzler(dot)com for 49.95 plus shipping. About the wattage, I figured the wattage of dish based on the fact that the dish is a 36 inch 'concave parabola' giving it more reflective area than a 36 inch 2 dimensional circle. The dish (if flattened out) would be close to a meter across (total reflective area). Since there is about 1000 watts of power in a square meter of full sunshine then, (1000 watts) x (.7854) = 785 watts.
Thanks for the purchase info! It seems like a bargain.
Logically I don't think you can't change the amount of sunlight received by a defined area depending on the profile of the target, so a 3' flat disk will receive the same amount as a 3' diameter dish, no matter how deep, as the same amount of sunlight is just distributed over a larger area.
no problem, and yes that is a bargain. good point about the area. only other thing i can figure is the following: 1 square yard = .8361 square meters, so (1000 watts) * (.8361) = 836.1. then (836.1) * (.7854) = 656.67 watts. maybe we should just ask the seller of the disk.
Awesome video! Thanks so much for sharing. : )

May I ask where you purchased for $49? Saw one on Ebay for $170.00 which I have no idea if this is a good cost.
Thanks

Very nice setup. I built a couple of different cookers with old satellite dishes. Good ideas on the mounts to hold the cooking pot.

oh and by the way could you tell us more about that double burner ?
kreech1 2 years ago
it is a GE double burner and has two heating elements. 1000 watt large burner, 500 watt small burner. die-cast aluminum burner plates
desertsun02 2 years ago
@desertsun02, could you tell us the setup that enables the double burner to be solar powered?
