Having played both Football (since I was 8-18) and Rugby (16-present) I can honestly say I like rugby more. In football you are at greater risk of injury to your head and knees because of the way people tackle and the pads you wear to protect your body. In rugby because of the lack of pads and the tackling rules you are at greater risk to break ribs, collar bones and your shoulder.

NFL is a shit sport!! I will admit that the biggest hits will occur in NFL simply because players get blindsided more often. BUT these hits are so rare because every 20 seconds the game stops. NFL players are not athletes they are just fat shits who need a break after everytime they run the ball. Rugby is definiteley a better, more skillful and tougher sport, having to grind out the opposition for 80 minutes. If you put a rugby backline up to run the ball they would score a touchdown every play.

I hope this video would encourage people who have not tried both sports to chck out the other game. I played both... I am American and was raided on AF, played rugby in college. I like rugby a lot better to play and watch, but the hitting is harder in AF.
If in the US, go to USA Rugby and "Find a club" near you to try rugby. Most clubs will let you come to a practice and try it with no commitment.
Is there anything like that in the UK or NZ or Aus for AF?

The players on the offensive and defensive line are often made to put alot of weight on, 1. to make it harder to be pushed over and 2. because repeated hits with the helmet to the gut rips the muscle.

Both sports have been scientifically proven to exert the same amount of damage over the course of an entire game. While NFL players hit 3 times harder than rugby players, they only make those kind of hits half as much as in rugby.
American football NEEDS pads because if they didn't have them, the kind of hits that are delivered regularly would destroy a body in one game.

I hope this video would encourage people who have not tried both sports to chck out the other game. I played both... I am American and was raided on AF, played rugby in college. I like rugby a lot better to play and watch, but the hitting is harder in AF.
If in the US, go to USA Rugby and "Find a club" near you to try rugby. Most clubs will let you come to a practice and try it with no commitment.
Is there anything like that in the UK or NZ or Aus for AF?

The players on the offensive and defensive line are often made to put alot of weight on, 1. to make it harder to be pushed over and 2. because repeated hits with the helmet to the gut rips the muscle.

Rugby doesnt need equipment becaue the game has structure and the other team is almost always in front of you, and if you have any skill at tackling you know to hit between the knee and the chest, not the head

Both sports have been scientifically proven to exert the same amount of damage over the course of an entire game. While NFL players hit 3 times harder than rugby players, they only make those kind of hits half as much as in rugby.
American football NEEDS pads because if they didn't have them, the kind of hits that are delivered regularly would destroy a body in one game.

Well said bud. I played both sports and you have to be tough to play either one. The body takes alot of abuse in these games. I do prefer to watch and play football but thats just personal opinion.
I do think that neither sports are the toughest though. Check out hockey and see if you change your mind. Football is my favorite sport but man hockey players are crazy.
