hogan was a great in his day..but Stone cold overshadows him big time ..austin even used to mock hogan.because people would compare him to hogan..he wounde up becoming better then him
@leejee88 And with good reason, he did it the EXACT OPPOSITE way Hogan did it, and he made more money doing it. You see how Austin is doing his heel turn and told JR before Mania that he HAD to beat The Rock?? Cena is doing the exact same thing...
Lol, Austin knew what he was saying. "Like I'm supposed to grant your every single wish?" Great Heel turn for Austin. And then it evolved into the 'bromance' for Mr Mcmahon, and then it changed into the cowardly heel. Great great year for Austin. but it coincided with the Alliance, which wasn't so good, and most fans misunderstood this Austin it seems. And we got the What chant.
Back in these days (before every man and his dog had the internet), I missed Wrestlemania 17 and did not know the results. @1000sidney You shut your stupid mouth right now and don't fucking open it again. Jim Ross is a legend and for you to call him stupid takes away any cred you might have.
@VancouverChokers He is stupid. He's such a kiss ass. One minute he's taking austin's side , austin's his buddy cause thats what the fans are doing, now he's dissapointed in austin. He may be a baby face heel and thats what he's supposed to do, but his sudden wresler preference changes are so completely based on who the fans are cheering its unrealistic.
@1000sidney He's not the one that's stupid. I'd say YOU are stupid...then again with your takes on Hulk Hogan you're stupid by default. Hulkamaniacs never learn...he's completely overrated.
Oh and JR>You. No one was EVER better at putting over talent than Jim Ross. You fucking shut your mouth and don't open it again.
@VancouverChokers Not only that, jr called some of the biggest matches we've ever seen. So Shut the fuck up, StupidCockSucka, @1000sidney cause legends never die no matter what they say. And u must be dumb as a door because u dont know that SCSA and JR are best Friends.

@1000sidney jr only said tht bcuz it was in a script you moron..him and austin are best of friends..and if it wasnt for jr u wouldnt see HALF the talent u even saw in the wwf/e....
A lot of people were mad at this version of Austin, but it was time for a change at this point. This Austin was one out for himself and would side with anyone to get what he wanted.
To be honest Austin was never a face in the WWF/E. He debuted as a heel but his disregard for law and order made him popular. Despite ending the Attitude Era that way it finally showed the fans that Austin was never meant to be cheered with that character, he was meant to be negatively received like the other heels.
@steveo5228 actually Austin wanted to turn Heel. This video (Stone Cold Explains His Heel Turn) if you go to 2:30, you can hear him say himself, and I quote lol "I've been loved, now it was time I wanted to be hated. It was my idea, I wanted people to hate me, and I tried everything I could to go out there and make those people hate me"
this was NOT the end of the attitude era, the attitude era took a complete left turn, the attitude era ended at the very first wwf draft in 2002 in my opinion, thats when the land scape truly changed forever
This was defiantly the end of the attitude era. Sorry lines became unbelievable and predictable after this. Austin said it himself that he wishes they didnt kill the old Austin completely. It got worse and worse he was bad ass one minute and on top of the WWF and then singing songs and crying the next. The rock left and came back and went and come back and went and came back and went. HHH got injured. Austin got upset and cried for real and left the company for real and come back. They lost it
austin was actually heel in WCW and in ECW and took time off as a heel in the WWF (now WWE) before becoming a face and heel again in 2001 when worked with his archenemy vince mcmahon at wrestlemania 17
@m3oothy100 stone cold steve austin is and well be the best wwe superstar of all time the rock is a chump and a bitch just like u SON!!!!! how many times did the rock beat austin let me see 2 times and austin kick the shit out of the rock so many time i cant even count AND THATS THE BOTTOM LINE BECAUSE I SAID SO.....
@Turp28 I don't get how, i mean sure he wasn't the same austin but you can't tell me he wasn't still bad ass and a great and funny heel. He was great at being a heel and a face, i kinda liked the heel austin more because he was more funny.
@tyakack Thats exactly why, because he was never the same Austin again. Even when he makes apperances now, this is the Austin that I see. Him being funny was just akward considering the history of his character. His fued with McMahon defined his career, but after he joined him he became the Stone Cold he swore he'd never be. Most people tend to ignore that but I can't.
I loved it when he austin turned heel he was so violent and vicious when he was attacking the hardys and lita with chairs, attacking taker and kane with anything he could get his hands on he was the man. But when kurt angle joined the act he was the most funniest guy ever.
Nah this was the real heel coz he was a cowardly heel at this time, unlike 1996 and early 1997 when he was basically a tough asshole. Austin actually never turned face, even after WM 13 he kept bad mouthing both faces and heels and beating any damn person up. He just managed to get over with the crowd a lot. That his why this heel turn (2001) failed, coz he went from being a badass heel/ tweener who was cheered to a piss poor heel who hid behind his boss.
WWE felt so awkward when Stone Cold turned heel. The Rock left, and the backup stars obviously weren't used to being relied on so heavily to follow in the roles Stone Cold and the Rock had.
Now stone cold is back to his regular size. Cuz I remember him when he had a beer belly and a thick neck wid a big ass head lma0!! But he look great now.
Its a shame rock left after this raw, 2 make a movie 4 a few months! coz a austin heel vs rock face rivalery would have been amazing! austin looked like he lost control when he turned heel? ? maybe he was just acting well, but he did some crazy shit as a heel after wm 17
Austin could have murdered Rocky in Texas and still got huge pops. The crowd was 50-50 here only because Austin had sold out to Vince McMahon. Even at Wrestlemania 17 the crowd went wild after Austin won (by cheating). It was crazy. They became silent only after he shook hands with McMahon.
This was a great heel turn and shocker. I liked Austin from this time until he became a bit comedic. During the first month or two of his heel turn, he was just sadistic and a bully. The Two Main Power Trip was epic!
I was a big fan of Stone Cold when he was feuding with Bret Hart, and he was "heel" back then...so this turn didn't upset me as much as others. In fact, I was kinda game for it, because he needed to change his act. This is why Cena has a strong "Anti-Cena" current going with him, it's because he hasn't changed his act in AGES. This would have happened with Austin eventually, but changes like this prevent it so :)
@Daederik Yeah, and it all made sense because Austin came back from neck surgery so you think he couldn't win the title on his own without some help. Plus, just to see Vince and Austin together, after all they went through, was something.
I love how this moment parallels the night after Mania 14 when Vince presented him with the belt then. It was like the ultimate slap in the face as a wrestling fan from Austin... he was a good heel IMO...
Anybody take a good look at Vince's the whole time Austin is talking, and it looks like he is wondering "why the hell did Austin agree to become a heel in the first place"
what are you on about, personally i think 2001 was one of the best years, its when the invasion came into it,i remember when i was younger watching it,it had so many twist and backstabbing, was awsome, and to top it off having the rock (wwf) and austin (alliance) face off at the end of survivor series to see which brand would take control WAS THE BEST......and proud to say the rock wooped that bold headed candy ass lol
@Magikct The invasion angle was one of the most screwed up angles they ever did. It has the potential to be one of the biggest storylines in wrestling industry and they screwed it up.
no one in WWE could ever work a crowd like Steve Austin! Maybe HHH, The Rock or Shawn Michaels came close, but Austin was the best at working a crowd...
the real reason why wwe is shit today cause there is no competiton after WCW and the invasion storyline finished then it started to go down hill wwe have no need to try and get the highest ratings anymore they turn to the money side and profit off merchandise hence all the kiddy stuff thats going on at this time
i think that the big problem was that austin sv rock great match was ruined by that bullshit ending of austin jus cheating with a chair and vince mc mahon
It was cool to see Austin turning heel plus siding with the 1 man he has feuded with for years Vince McMahon. Those were the good times back in the Attitude Era.
The early part of this heel turn was some of Austin's best work. Later on when they made him a guitar-playing sissy sucked. Austin's big face push that put him on the map was in part a function of a generation thirsting for more edgy entertainment (see also: D-Generation X). I never really caught on to Austin as a face, but as a heel I thought he was very believable.
@mtsknr That's about all that was good about Austin's heel turn, and there's a huge part of me that can't call it an outright heel turn because Stone Cold never really suckholed to anybody from Day 1,even though he had suddenly kissed McMahon's ass when he turned heel.
I miss that announce team, pure talent in the booth....Jr/King are great but JR/Heyman is way better!

what are you on about, personally i think 2001 was one of the best years, its when the invasion came into it,i remember when i was younger watching it,it had so many twist and backstabbing, was awsome, and to top it off having the rock (wwf) and austin (alliance) face off at the end of survivor series to see which brand would take control WAS THE BEST......and proud to say the rock wooped that bold headed candy ass lol

@Magikct The invasion angle was one of the most screwed up angles they ever did. It has the potential to be one of the biggest storylines in wrestling industry and they screwed it up.

I was at this raw.... too bad I have not watched this stuff in like 7 years.

no one in WWE could ever work a crowd like Steve Austin! Maybe HHH, The Rock or Shawn Michaels came close, but Austin was the best at working a crowd...

@JKAFinal yeah because WM was in Texas, his home you know.

the real reason why wwe is shit today cause there is no competiton after WCW and the invasion storyline finished then it started to go down hill wwe have no need to try and get the highest ratings anymore they turn to the money side and profit off merchandise hence all the kiddy stuff thats going on at this time

i think that the big problem was that austin sv rock great match was ruined by that bullshit ending of austin jus cheating with a chair and vince mc mahon
michaelpisciuneri 1 year ago
It was cool to see Austin turning heel plus siding with the 1 man he has feuded with for years Vince McMahon. Those were the good times back in the Attitude Era.

The early part of this heel turn was some of Austin's best work. Later on when they made him a guitar-playing sissy sucked. Austin's big face push that put him on the map was in part a function of a generation thirsting for more edgy entertainment (see also: D-Generation X). I never really caught on to Austin as a face, but as a heel I thought he was very believable.

I think Austin turning heel was the best thing that happened that year cuz the "what" chant is still goin to this day.
mtsknr 1 year ago 4
@mtsknr That's about all that was good about Austin's heel turn, and there's a huge part of me that can't call it an outright heel turn because Stone Cold never really suckholed to anybody from Day 1,even though he had suddenly kissed McMahon's ass when he turned heel.

One of my favourite Austin promos. He was great as a heel

John Cena has had a better wrestling career than The Rock and Steve Austin combined. Be jealous, faggots.
