BBC archives from the seventies; what a face he makes next to his performance ! He plays it a little bit rough; needing to be sweeter ! Chaconne is probably the must known piece of art in violin music; Polyphonic giant one for this little instrument, and only ten fingers to make it sounding good : i really think that's impossible and too long, and very old ; i even believe that Mr Bach (the composer), could not play this work well; he was writing difficult music with no care for the interprete !
Who cares if Bach was writing difficult music to play? We all can see and hear that this Chaconne is highly difficult. The only important thing, however, is that it is music of the highest level. Simply divine. And as an interpreter, you better be up to the job. Perlman is, so what are you talking about in fact? Perhaps he is a bit rough, indeed, that's the only very little criticism I could have.
probably one of the best pieces written for solo violin. in my opinion anyway.. Janine Jansen as a really good version of this too. but i don't think it's on youtube....
Love to watch Iyzhak play. He always looks like he loves what he is doing. We are twice blessed to see him and to hear him. Thank you so much for posting this wonderful video.
there's a video of Perlman playing the mendelssohn at 13 years old on youtube, and he already had the sound of his later years. his sound has always improved i think, but the basic tone was there as early as that. tone either comes naturally to string players or it doesn't at all i think. also saw the man play about a year ago. joked a lot and was very friendly. great atmosphere
Es impecable en todo sentido. Tiene un amplio dominio no solo de su instrumento, sino también de la obra y su compositor. Un Maestro único. Muchas gracias por este video.
He has such a happy thankful expression in his face, and really lighty phrases sometimes and nice light by coincidence maybe but completing the visual as well, so very impressed by both hearing and watching. thank you, mr. bach for writing this profound peaceful music, and thank you BBC? and thank you for putting this!
Very nice. I wonder how he could play with that sweat dripping down his face. That would drive me crazy! It's remarkable how focused players like Perlman stay throughout a performance.
i wrote a paper on this piece for an honors jury and i did a lot of research and it is just amazing to see how many emotions bach put into writing this piece.
The maggiore sectio is my favorite part of the whole piece, it has a sort of hopeful, peaceful sound to it
damn itzhak you grimey

Unbelievable! I admire Grumiaux's elegance and Milstein's austere emotion, but this brings down the roof! A cathartic performance!
