  • It's a pity the little youtubers have to be so jealous of the best pianist in the world: Freddy Kempf.

  • Super!

  • Comment removed

  • I wish I had as much talent as people like Kempf so that I can just make a living playing music... it must be nice.

  • He looks like the guy from "the pianist"

  • @chopazi Freddy is much cuter.

  • didnt know fingers could move that fast!

  • Lisitsa is technically clearly better, and Pollini also, of course.

    No doubt. No discussion.

  • RAM pianists rule!

  • Surely Chopin's Toccata for the piano!

  • WAAAAAAW!!!!

    after this video I'm SPEECHLESS

  • Are you retarded?

  • @FrenchLanguage: He is japanese. and german. please keep your racist offensive crap to yourself btw.

  • i can't take him seriously with that Hunched Back of Notre Dame pose...

  • Child, now you're REALLY acting like your screen name: CHILD

No one can take YOU seriously either when you act like a jealous child fucktard since you have NO TALENT except to bitch about a renown piano ROCK STAR like Freddy Kempf. If you don't like him, or how he plays, then fuck off his videos, moron. That's easy enough to do.

  • Why are you getting so mad over a simple light hearted joke of a comment? You are the only child here.

  • I can't take him seriously with that haircut

  • foundation316, WTF? Have YOU looked in a mirror lately? Did you see YOUR hair cut? If not, you need to, to see that BELL HAIRCUT YOU have. ROFLMAOOOOOOOOOOO! Don't talk about anyone's haircut, dude. Your head looks like homemade shit, dude.

  • Lol, I agree with PianoCriticsKiller. Nobody's going to take you seriously with that haircut, foundation. It's not trendy, original, or cool looking. It's just a mess.

  • KD Lang also plays piano??

  • he is good

  • Thank God that there is someone else who knows of Perahia's recording of these etudes. Everyone should check them out. They are my personal favorite.

  • It'd be cool if they did a study on what classical pianists brains look like when they're doing amazing things such as this. I bet it's like a wildfire.

  • The fastest on the west. Very good.

  • That was excellent, I love classical songs composed by F.Chopin and W.A.Mozart. A Very Great Interpretation! And for all those others, lay off Freddy! The way he plays it is his way!

  • Comment removed

  • I agree...I don't really like freddy kempf in these etudes ...

  • i agree with you, most music is legato unless otherwise stated,.... it is very difficult to obtain a legato in the piano, those who achieve it sing and make music, the others struggle, and play sounding like exercises,.... they "spell" the music instead of forming "words" and/or "phrases", Arrau Rubinstein, among others, had legato and sang at the piano.

  • lol what a pathetic statement.

NOT ALL piano pieces are legato unless stated. would you play any baroque pieces in legato? remember they didn't have pianos then. yet bach did not state to play it detached in his pieces,

however i still agree that this is not a good interpretation.

  • legato is the key for playing the piano, most music should be played legato unless otherwise stated. Unless a pianist develops a good legato, he/she cannot sing in the piano andhis/her touch will be stiff and harsh,....there are some pieces in the baroque that would benefit if played in a non legato manner, however if bach is to be played at the piano, it is a mistake in my opinion to play it ALL non legato, Bach's music is deeper and well above the limitations of the instrumenents of its day.

  • FreackZz, to each his own. I love it. In fact, I love the way he plays EVERYthing! He's my new fav. He's awesome and he ROCKS! Most others are just dried old men who play like cookie cutters. I love that he has his OWN unique style.

BRAVO, Freddy! Bravo! Don't change a THING!

1,000 stars! Ooops! Can only give you 5; too bad...

  • FreackZz, I agree that this is not a good interpretation - It's an EXCELLENT interpretation.

    =0))

  • Absolutely wonderful! Ranks with the finest in every regard.

  • I love Chopin, and I love Freddy Kempf, but I don't particularly like this song or interpretation. It's just a little harsh.

  • i've never really liked kempf's renditions of the etudes, and this is probably my least favourite of them. listen to gavrilov's version, who, in my opinion, is easily one of the best interpreters of the etudes.

  • this is my favourite performance =D

  • It could never be played any better than that.

    PERFECT! It's also charming.

  • good

  • His shirt looks unusually comfortable....i want one!

  • Its like a Filipino Folk song..,.lol..,. a little..,.

  • just brilliant.

and people please, dont show your lack of manners or demonstrate how your parents failed at teaching you how to act like polite human beings by making stupid comments and running your mouths.

  • FanFuckingTastic

  • ner i kiss your mother with it

  • lowliferinsehan, your attempt to sound half way intelligent failed.

if your used to talking to your dear old mother like that at the dinner table then thats her problem.

  • DUDE! TEENAGE GIRL FEELINGS! YOU WERE OWNED BY THE PINK PUDING LOL!

and now for serious time,Freddy Kempfs interpretation of this piece is just spot on.

  • i absolutely love freddy kempf! he's excellent. I love this piece too. i played it my junior year in high school and it's quite difficult.

  • It's time for these brilliant asians to start composing original piano and orchestral pieces. the world is waiting.

  • you are such a racist dumbass.

  • LOL how is this racist. Learn the meaning of racism dumbass. He just simply applied that the world should see the brilliant asian artist. Whats so racist about that.

  • mmmm yes... ever heard of sarcasm?

  • ur idea of sarcasm is being retarded

  • You must be pretty back dated -.- |||

  • shut all up and enjoy

  • i agree with selby06

  • i love this etude. nothing like a good toccata. But i have to finish the op 10 no 3 etude before i start working on this.

  • damn the video isnt available to me :(

  • this is a deceivingly hard etude! and the way Kempf plays it here is even harder than Chopin (or his publisher) indicated it. Some people play it like an toccata, detached and non-legato, and some play it very smooth and legato, more piano (like Perahia or Friere). Either way, it takes alot of endurance practice, much like the octaves in Liszt's Sixth Rhapsody. Godowsky wrote two etudes based on this etude, one is a LH counterpart. Face it, Chopin was a right hand man.

  • Sorry, but endurance has nothing to do with it....it is pure coordination using a to-fro/up-down movement driven from the arms transmitted to the fingers that merely react to this pulse and are mostly passive. The to-fro movement is very small and nearly invisible at fast tempo, but believe me, you can feel it if you play this ....

  • how do you know it??? you listen chopin live??? chopin was brillant in all the ways. i think that not you, and not me can talk aboutn a genius like chopin, who are you to tañk about his capacity, just another idiot like me writing in youtube. when you do all the things that chopin reach then you can talk

  • This definitely NOT an easy piece.

Does anyone else feel that Chopin shows his sense of humor with this piece? I can't help but laugh when I hear this one because I can't decide whether it sounds good or bad. Well played, as is natural with Kempf.

  • @Chickenbaru

There's humor in the piece, but I don't see how it has anything to do with it sounding somehow "bad".

The humor is genuine, not some type of "camp".

  • crazy.......

  • is this as hard as it sounds

  • I wish one day I ll play that good...

  • That's what she said!

  • he has a nice gaff eh

  • It's C major

  • What key is this in, anyway? It doesn't sound like A minor, or C Major... It obviously ends in C major, but is the rest of the piece really in the same key?

  • yes

  • I love how his fast his fingers move! its a complete blur!

  • Smooth. Very smooth, and at this tempo!

  • perfect!

  • is he the son of Whilhelm Kempff?

  • no. it's just kempf...his father's german and mother's japanese.

  • Hitler?! He's got some German in him but, hitler? No way in hell!

  • woww...i make right now this etude....and i think it`s a great piece!

  • Thank you very much... these videos are just great!!

  • wow that was amazing! superb!

  • very awesome, spectacular work, one of the best pianists i agree. I am playing this piece too for my competition. I must admit though i think perrahia plays it better. But im sure its because perahias piano is better. He does seem very much like Hitler, weird. I love it

  • where's he from?

  • Uhh, he's Hitler's grandson.

  • r u serrious i really hope ur joking

  • this guy looks really asian though

  • lol

  • Haha...

  • nvm i did some research he is half japanese

  • do you ever shut the fuck up?

  • Freddy Kempf is a wonderful pianist no doubt, and he shows off an art when he performs. Absolutely wonderful.

  • Just awesome!!

  • I think it was on purpose. It was for the incoming crescendo..

  • did he slow down slightly in the middle part?

    or is it just me

  • Ihave always rated Freddy as one of this countries best pianists!
