hey, try to connect the hdd's to an audio amplifier to get more power from speaker out. the waves that i used, was generated with adobe audition, try frequences between 30hz to 100hz, and apply flanger effect or another stereo effect to make the pattern generated by the scanners makes some kind of animation.
Ok, i got some transistors and all is working, but i have a problem.. How do you do to stay the arm at the middle? Because when i put the Hard Drive in its posicion, the arm goes down and doesn't move perfectly =/
@TecnoVirtu Yes, each head is directily connected to pc audio output(one is left, one is right channel)... nothing special there, you just need to figure out the pins on the hdd, that control head movement, mirror pieces are cut out from an old cd with silver silver suface. They are glued to the heads in the center of rotation. no need for external power sources or anything, honestly i left this stuff behind.. the heads just bounce around too much, not way to make them work accuratly.
@TecnoVirtu then try using an amplifier and kick the volume up.. i use a simple old 5.1 amp in stereo mode as the middle device, or you maybe using the wrong pins on your hdd, try just hooking it with a AA battery and test out the pins, i think the very first or very last is used for negative, although the polarity doesnt really matter.. its just an electromagnet, the flow of electrons turns it on, swapping polarity means swapping direction to where its going, play with it for a bit
@Rad86N Yep, i have a home teather and when i connect the HDD to the Subwoofer it works, but if i connect to any other loudspeaker it doesn't work, again, the signal is too weak.. Anyways thanks for all
@TecnoVirtu oh yeah, thats a little problem, if you want to actually listen to the music hdds are too weak xD well theres nothing else you can do other than using another amp for the hdd
@masterpj55 if I wanted to draw patterns (print, 3D cube etc.), I need the original galvos?, there is no other way (for example, a large mirror distance)?
HDD galvos is good only for the direct effect of random rays?

Nice one :D
I have a question... Can you control this with a PC? I got two HDD's and i want to make a laser projector..
Thanks

@Rad86N Do you have any amplifier circuit? :P Or i'm thinking to use a transtor and 3V... The transistor will get the little impulse of the amp

this is easy and great !!,, please how many kbps can i make with hdd heads??
miro1360 1 year ago
@miro1360 likely not so much..
i don't know if the audio dac can make anything out of it.
but likely patterns will not be possible as far as i can guess.
probly it's angle is very small.
even if it could scan a pattern, very flickery and with loads of artifacts

My english is poor - sorry :), thank you...

@miro1360 I don't use HDD galvo's
they aren't that usable.
try to use an amiga emulator and run the amiga lasershow program
it seems that it can generate actuall patterns.
Or have an look for the audio dac
or ezaudiodac *that's what it's called*
I recommend going to the photonlexicon forums.
it's all ment for lasers.
the ezaudiodac needs you to buy a thing called a correction AMP and furthermore a cheap 7.1 usb audio soundcard

this one was just directly connected to left and right channel of my amplifier..

what kind of software did you use to control the sound pattern? or was it only the music ?
on your video "HDD laser 2" is it only the soundtrack from the video who drives the hdd arms?
orreznorre 2 years ago
yes.. it was powered only by the amplifier's audio out..
Rad86N 2 years ago
great work
how do you control it?
