as a kid i wrote in and asked them why all mass exerts a gravitational force. i got a letter back saying they could not, at the time, answer my question. i was very disappointed. but now i get to say that i stumped newton's apple.
The 1983-89 shows, if they're ever to get a DVD release, will probably not get the original "Ruckzuck" restored on them because, of course, the licensing restrictions.
anybody remember Dr. Fad? I think it was one of these science type of shows, but it also had a "consumer reports for kids" angle to it as well...it was pretty good as I remember.

Okay, here's what happened. Newton's Apple used Kraftwerk's "Ruckzuck" through PBS compulsory license in which Congress gives public broadcasting the right to use any music they want but only for broadcast. The music on this clip was the replacement music for home video sales. As far as I know Kraftwerk never said anything about the use of their song as the theme song. Newton's Apple also used Suburbs' "Music for Boys"... which is another great song.
@pressmin Ruckzuck was used for the broadcast version only (which PBS stations use under a compulsory license. This version was rewritten for home video sales. Kraftwerk never sued the show.
"Ruckzuck" was used as the theme song for the defunct PBS show Newton's Apple in the United States. It was used without permission. Later episodes of the show feature an unknown cover version of the song.
As a kid you don't question things, you sit and watch and absorb, some more than others, so if any of the original cast members from any one of these shows reads this, Thank you for enlightening a young mind and telling me i can do it, because i did, and its all because of your work. And thank you to PBS for continuing to enlighten generation after generation of young minds. It truly is an amazing gift you are giving to us. anyone who disagrees is sadly mistaken.
i have always alwaya had an affinity to and distinct love for physics, astronomy, math, and biology. I have taken my love for all of these things to levels i am actually surprised i attained, by becoming an astrophysicist. I live in MA, and work for a prominent college at the age of 27, and right up untill this very moment, never questioned where my love of science came from. I now COMPLETELY understand why i like cooking, and building, and nature and science...it was because of PBS.
