  • @Keyzer4: you should make sure you understand the words you use in your uploads-- you can embarrass yourself otherwise, such as mis-pronouncing "exabyte" as "exactbyte"-- there is no such word. If you look up "exabyte", you'll see it follows after kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, terabyte, etc... it's a mathematical term.

  • if today is the judgement day, who do you think is the number 1 and 2 countries to be thrown away to hell in terms of population?

  • I would like someone who knows so much about the future to give me hope. Like this, all wars will end and there will be no more governments. That is what I wanna hear. With or without the internet and fiber optics.

  • Did you know that billions are spent in weapons in order to kill each other humanely?

Did you know that the rights of criminals are given more respect and value than the rights of victims?

  • Colonel Philip J. Corso of the U.S military said fiberoptics and transistors where back engineered from debris coming out of the Roswell crash.

  • I don't understand how a computer can be smarter than the human brain or even the human race, they were or will be invented by humans after all. Correct me if I'm wrong?

  • @PhobicPyro Computational power not necessarily intellect, Roger Penrose the Emperors New Mind Is an Interesting book on the subject.

  • @strangemyth I'll Give It A Read, Thanks

  • @PhobicPyro Your right. Computation and data manipulation will never equal the organic mind.

  • Did you know... by now all these comments, including this one, are alredy out dated. Along with the countless numbers of other items, topics, discussions, ideas, fads, even fasion and forms of gossip are out dated.Oprah is out dated, and so is her over-dramtic discussions. and that yelling and gasping when all she does is pull a book out of nowhere is out dated to people. soon, even these last couple of stences are out dated too. and this one. and this one. and this one.

  • umm what do they mean by "just like you"

  • @Not0Ever they mean if you're one in a million, then there are that many other people who are also "one in a million"

  • If you think 'merka is #1 in everything, you've just been put in your place, boy.

  • pious comments miss the point

  • i like the no speaking version of this video with Fatboy Slim music better..this one has a gay voice....

  • @Blackwing024 He sounds like a fat pig.

  • 1118785 i blew

  • NO. 1,112,114 -- so now, what do we do?

  • number 1,111,111 to view this!

  • ahbin total ungezogen heute wer will mit mir camn der kann sich ja melden

  • this guy is a lousy narrator...

  • omg

  • "Pedroptz- This video is outdated"

LMFAO!!! that is the most funniest comment i have read as of yet.

  • A lot of the comparative stats are meaningless. There are more text messages than people on the planet. So? Computers and human brains work in completely different ways - how can you say something exceeds the computational power of the human brain. And whats with the scary music and monotone fear inspiring voice. Ahhh! Technology!

  • If the capabilities of the brain has yet to be measured, how can they claim that a 1000 dollar computer will exceed the capabilities of the human brain ...

  • @jogabonitomatt good point. It's totally an estimation. It would be interesting if it were true, though, wouldn't you say?

  • this guy sux

and yea we only need ppl u contribute to society

we dont need beggars/gypsies or ppl who are just a burden on society

  • @ladhkay Do you think there are more beggars a burdon on society than there are tax frauders? Either way, I'm sure there is more money being lost from the authorities through respect people which do tax fraud then there is through social aid for people that don't really need help but are too lazy to work. Not that all beggars are that way, some of which actually live in hell.

  • Wear Condoms!

  • the narrator is boring, and the contents should be cited... I mean this presentation is dramatically similar to the SONY "Did you know?" presentation.

  • This video is outdated

  • @Pedroptz Yeah, i think it's a year or so older than the date I posted it even. still interesting to think about, wouldn't you say? To me it just makes sense to keep in perspective that things are changing more quickly these days than we can keep up with. The biggest and the best one day may very well be obsolete moments later and it seems like this is happening all the time. Take for example this video. Or your computer. Or who knows what else?

  • wow, this narrator is boring. no offense

  • Shift happens? well, I just shifted my pants!!!!!!!

  • The whole point is just stop producing babies. In most countries there's millions babies being made that can't even be taken care of -_-

  • Spot on. But who will listen? Why do we need to have a world population exceeding 1 billion?

  • Yes we only need those who keep the economy moving and are usefull/can make a difference for/in society -_-

  • No! We still need to have compassion and love for all those who live. That is what we are ultimately fighting for. Anything less than that can lead to Nazism or hostile 1 child policies as in China. What we really need is a Global policy on what population is sustainable and then put it to the people to implement through education. Only then are we worthy of looking to the stars to keep humanity safe

  • You know what you're right. Education and birth control is the key. Too much abortion is happening. People put kids on earth jus like they are cute things. We need to take more responsibility for human lives.

  • @6Dreality The ideal population put out by the UN is under 1 billion, and more like 500 million. We'll have to kill people off for that, education won't do it.

  • @6Dreality good point. Around the world, if i'm not mistaken, as the level of education goes up, the birthrate goes down. I believe it has become a problem in some countries. (Germany? not sure)

  • @Keyzer4 It has very little to do with education but GDP and individual wealth compared worldwide. think about it, when you're poor you'd have kids in order to work for almost nothing. When you have money you don't need to do that. But there is no way that at the current levels of population that everyone can be American or 1st world middle class thus the lower class worldwide(which is by far the largest) will always have very high birthrates :)

  • @Icemanlong Hmmm... Perhaps you're right. Or Perhaps you're wrong? Or perhaps you could google this: "Women's Education and Fertility Rates" and read some of the many articles. I'm not sure that they all agree with me, but it seems that at least a few do.

  • IN the book of Daniel it says at the end when speaking of the end times, it predictes that information will increase, people will run to and fro. That was back in like 586 BC or somewhere around that area looking forward towards the 21st century and so on.

  • yes. the u.s. is slipping up.

  • the other video like this said different about google.. which 1 is right then

  • In 20 years from now, when china and india will consume as much as americans (who are already fucking the world up with the higest CO2 emission per inhabitant ratio(around 4 times more than france, for example)), we will be in a state where nothing can be done to clean the planet. Once the russian methan is free, in the air, the temperature will raise by several degrees. And that's what we are contribuing for right now. And people don't even seem to know it, or they don't care may be.

  • . - True, but who owns the industries & financial institutions that helps creates products that creates this CO2 emissions in Asia? Look it up boy. BTW global warming is a scapegoat, the sun really is getting warmer

  • I know it's occidental countries. I just can't understand why humans don't feel protective over their planet. We wanted to own Earth, we own Earth. Now assume the consequences. But people DONT assume the consequences. They don't give a shit about the whole humanity and life, all that cares is their little individual ego. Humanity is a shitty specie if you want my opinion.

  • The truth is people do give a shit about humanity. Our problem is how to go about it? Our Planet is in its cycle again. It went through it before. We'll go through it again. I do believe that our concern should be. How are we going to adapt with these changes.

  • wooow

  • if you watch 'Youtube' enough then you'll understand the whole china honor students/american student fact. BTW, is 129 a high IQ?

  • depends what the iq test range was but usually it better than average which is 100

  • 145 bitch eat it lol

  • you can have a high iq like that and still be academically shit or rubish at other things

  • oh so true... personally i blame the drugs lol

  • damn. that's yours?

    mines 125. lol.

    but yeahh it is.

  • anyone read "the singularity is near", if so then doesn't this all seem a little bit familiar?

  • Future...*Sigh*

  • for the music they should've put fatboy slim's right here right now song

  • /▌

    / \ ☻ bob is dead... I've killed him.

  • is it just me or this guy actually said "exact bytes"?

  • Yes, he did.

  • I remember hearing this kind of paranoid rant back in the 60s. "Technology is growing faster than us so we had better keep up"... why because... "the foreigners are greater than us and can't wait to take over" and "the Ruskies have more atom bombs than us"

Be afraid... be very afraid! ...oohhh now what will I do?

I'm tired of statistic twisting assholes trying to put the fear of god in us. Haven't we matured beyond this kind of fear mongering, manipulative crap?

  • They arent trying to scare you. They are just stating facts that are true! They are trying to make the point that the United States, which has always been thought to be a super power, is becoming obsolete.

  • I'm afraid there are many distortions of "facts" going on in Shift Happens.

For example comparisons with China. China (India too) are plagued with socio-economic problems BECAUSE of overpopulation. They are at a severe disadvantage because of this.

Shift Happens is guilty of that manipulative trick of tossing out random bits of information but deliberately leaving out many important facts. Half-truths or sins of omission I would say.

There is no bigger lie than a half-truth.

  • What's wrong with the fear of God?

    We should fear God.

    Besides...it is truee.

But dangg. how old are you? lol.

    wow...that was rude.

  • "if you are one in a million in China, there are 1300 people just like you"??? What the fuck is that supposed to mean?...other than China has 1.3 Billion people. So fucking what! What conclusion am I supposed to draw from this piece of meaningless information?

Stop cherry picking useless stats (China has 1.3 billion population) and blending them with idioms ("one in a million"). Am I suppose to be afraid now?

    Prapaganda pure and simple.

  • okay, i have to agree with that...a thumbs up even.

But maybe the speaker, or the guy that made this vid(i didn't watch this one, i saw a similar one, not narrated) thought it sounded right, or couldn't explain that well enough... i mean i have those moments a lot. but, it can't be helped...it's already said.

  • Is it just me or does the narrator sound like Jigsaw?

  • lmao. so right.

  • what it means is that people have evolved in a period of time with technology and have forgotten and blinded by technology how to live humanly. blinded of purpose of life. also this means that we cant control growth of population and if we don't we cant in no way keep providing with sources vs the increased population. so there is going to be a yr 2049 but with no super computer and no humans.

  • why are some people so against technology?? its a good thing!! lol

also, what do u mean by 'blinded by technology how to live humanly'? and 'purpose of life'?

purpose of life is to live as long as possible and to be happy, u think technology is against that?

  • It's a good thing, but it'll be the deaths of us!

We just have to know how to use it the right way.

Man created the computer, but computer will destroy man.

I mean, it'll so put us out of Jobs.

Many ppl die trying, or get hurt trying to fix, better, experiment, or make technological things.

  • The narrator sounds like Jigsaw from the Saw movies...LOL

  • Reminds me of the predictions that we would all have flying cars in the future, or nuclear power was going to make electricity so cheap it wouldnt be worth putting up the meters. This videos it is predicted statements arent any more reliable. It also has one glaring error. Nintendo may have spent $140 million on research, but its not true that the US government spent less than half that amount. We spend more money than that just trying to figure out how many times a day a cow farts.

  • What are you having a hard time wrapping your mind around, that the economic and technological edge of America is slipping. With the all too apparent recession and decline of Americas educational standards the video just seems like it's addressing trends that should be blatantly clear to anyone with access to world news. I fail to see how it's a crazy off-the-wall prediction, it's common sense.

  • I don't have any issues with the predictions that if the US doesn't get its act together we could become a second class nation. Even with out act together it will be difficult to compete with nations that are much larger than we are, although Japan still does a pretty good job. My issue is with the prediction of future innovations that will become part of our daily lives. These are no better than the promises of flying cars from the previous genertion.

  • good presentation but really ugly voice

  • better have things right with Jesus

  • i would just like for my children to see this tecnology happen for the betterment of mankind not just for individual monetary gain!

  • where can i get this vidoe to download for my work?

  • Did you know!! ? By the time you download this video for your work, 1 out of 2 of your co-workers has already seen it!.

Too late to download it lol.

  • lmfao.

    literally.

  • he has a frog in his throat.

  • Well we all might as well end it now.

I do agree that technology is moving SO FAST, that it is impossible for future generations to ever possibly keep up.

It remains what will really happen as a result of all this.

    God help us all.

  • MEHH

WE ARE ALL FUCKKEDD...kinda freakky... o well... i dont think this shit will happen soon.. so watevvv

  • You can fret, you can deny ...the second coming of the greatest civilization is coming ...C H I N A !

  • sigh.. so many things I'm thinking but can't express about this video..

  • I used to wear a shift...

  • LOL

  • stfu and say "yes we can!" :P

  • GOODBYE

    were all fucked

  • Meh

    This won't happen for long

there is a limit to population, Food production, clean water and power generation.

We are hitting a wall as a species and that wall is much closer than most of the "prediction" in this presentation.

    Good luck everyone!

    See you in hell!

  • Technology has a way to push away the wall. Five hundred years ago cities had trouble growing because transporting food from the countryside had to be done by cart or barge, if you were near a river or channel. All we need is to survive the next 20 or 30 years and we will be home free.

  • sciencetolgy

  • We have to nuke china and the honor students

  • allll this is a load of fuking shit

  • Technology is good. Shift is bad. Shift will end up fucking up the world. :(

  • But we can. Just think of the calculator on a computer. We can easily type in very hard problems and get answers we wouldn't be able to figure out otherwise. And a computer is smarter than some people already. It's just going to be refined and detailed more and more till it just smarter than someone else then someone else...and soon it'll be smarter than us all.

  • Concerning the calculator;

It's smarter than us in simple mathematics. We're still able to think on our own, dream, create, love. computers don't know how to do that stuff. It can only do what we programmed them to. Although, scripting is quite amazing. We can program it to do random sequences on which we did not plan it to make. That is amazing. Let's hope that scientists won't use that for destruction, because it may fuck us over.

  • I don't think they can build a computer that is smarter than we are. Maybe one that can compute faster and multi-task more efficiently, but after all, computers are made by us. We can't make something smarter than ourselves, if you catch my drift, because we must enter the information that it computes. I have better grammar than any Microsoft Word programme.

  • so much worse than the original

  • i think the part about london in 1900 is trying to show how quickly the world power can change, and how the US will not remain on top forever

    shift happens; next up: China

  • Yeah, there's a lot of misinformation here and irrelevant information as well.

Just goes to show you how fast technology is outpacing itself I guess since this video is already outdated.

  • lol

  • why lol?

  • my bad I taught you were joking I taught you were making fun of the video its hard to explain

  • what does it mean by england 1900???

  • it means that there is no longer one superpower that has all those qualities mentioned. ex: China has the largest military but not the highest standard of living.

  • England is a part of Great Britain, which led the world in 1900.

  • dam the fucking chines are smart

  • I can't get past the narrator's irritating voice. Swallow or drink a sip of water for heaven's sake!!!

  • cheesse

  • There are several of wrong information and misinterpretations in this video! As an example, no computer will go beyond the capabilities of the human brain until we know how the brain works and it is still a log way to it, longer than a mere of 20 years. The amount of information enters your brain does not matter at all, but the "selectivity" that your brain impose on them is important, since the brain filters the unnecessary ones during sleep for example, and so they remain irrelevant!

  • I agree with you here.

Many people don't realize that money invested in computer systems will not improve overall performance.

There are still hundreds of unsolved problems in artificial intelligence, and research in quantum computing hasn't even been going on for a very long time.

Until these geniuses from all of these countries can solved the big serious problems, then technology will never advance like it did during the beginning of the industrial revolution.

  • i liked the other video thats not narrated but good job :)

  • These "shift happens" videos strike fear into the viwers. And for what reason? Engineering is used to make lives better, not make it worse. Also why does it matter if the UK is not the center of the world anymore? Its still an excellent place to live. I do have to say this though, if Americans are really concerned about their place in the world they should stop chosing business careers and go into technical fields were there is high demand.

  • On the other hand, thats what makes the US such a great place, you can chose to do whatever you want with your life.

  • wene i first seen the vid at a glance i thotght it said "shit happens" my instct was proved to be right!

  • I'm going into veternary! what do you mean by technical fields?

  • Awesome Video Dude

  • whoa this open my mind.

but i have one question how can a super computer be smarter then humans if the humans created it??

  • it can not because a machine can't update it self unless someone makes the updates

  • it can compute at the speed of a human brain, or faster, not create a human brain, unless it becomes self aware, than were fucked

  • google it. LOL

  • You know what we need? We need a leader like Sarah Palin to lead a world like this one, Don't you think? That'd be like... great.

  • i am a Liberal. She because you are to scare to face the true.

  • i tell you what it means bullshit, you cannot predict what can happpen next do you know the population of England kids die over the world every year, why? can you stop it then why discuss it

  • FUBAR

  • fucked up beyond ***** 8**

  • dude why cus

  • My teacher showed us this in economics. JUst thought it was cool :]

  • me too

  • stfu

  • um.....this is definately interesting i gues...>.>

  • 0ok

  • Ugh i dont understand and i have a paper due in this tomorrow

  • Is the modern poetry ? made by a mathematician maybe

  • I guess it goes right over your intellectual level, meager as it is.

  • On one side, USA is trying to help every corner of the world with its anti-terrorism.

On the other side, there is a hell of alot of terrorism. For instance, JUST a few weeks ago, some terrorist group bombed a series of very populated cities in India including Bangalore and Ahmedabad. (two big cities). Do you see U.S troops storming the place looking for the terrorists? No, because USA will only attack terrorists groups that have messed with them... there is only so much terrosism....

  • And continuing in my last commentary, in forth place, just below Hitler, would be Roosevelt, at his administracion during the great depression and WWII, millions died of his brutal policies againts japan and germany citizents alike, and dont tell me the bullshit that it was neccesari to do so, becuase it would make you as evil and wrong as the nazis during the blitz and stalingrad, Leningrad and moscow.

  • The US ended Stalin/Lennin/Marxist/Communist Russia during the Cold War - they may be sliding backward but the US contained them and ended the Cold War w/o a 'shot fired.'

As far as Roosevelt being 4th...Holy Hell...where were you educated child? Roosevelt's policies were not great and many will forever debate if they helped or hurt but to even suggest...even hint that he is on ANY list w/ the like and ilk of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao is absolutely INSANE!

  • plus nixon and bush who we know might have aranged 9/11

  • So says you and that only makes you a fool, not me a nazi-like apologist.

  • I like how America is so scared of China and India surpassing them. So what?? They have more people then anyone else if they can stabilizer their poverty they will be the leaders of the new world. Sad that America rather see countries in ruins and people suffering then giver up there #1 spot. Greedy bastards.

  • Wow. That is not true at all.

  • Yours is the dumbest comment i have ever read on youtube - which is saying something. The US has given more time, money, effort, technology-pc's-laptops, aid, etc... to third world countries than any of the next ten countries. We do more to help starving, suffering people than any other nation in the history of the world.

Versus...say Germany, which is a great country, but one that to date has only added great suffering and wars to the world along w/, of course, great engineering. Bad trade.

  • Lets see since WW2 eneded America has been in 6 wars. Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, and Iraq. You people are really helping the world!! Just look at murders in America per year higher then any other first world country. AMericans are geneticly violent and hate everyone even there own people. The Earth was a safer place when America didn't try to police it.

  • Now you also have the second dumbest comment on youtube. Congratulations! K&V wars - finished what France started; P - liberated Kuwaitis; A = did what Russia could not do and cleared out the terrorists in A; I = liberated Iraqis. The US's 'policing' has liberated more people and created more peace and prosperity than, AGAIN, any country in the history of the world. The world is a FAR, FAR safer place precisely b/c of the USA! Does the US have issues w/ murders? Yes. Better than genocide.

  • LOL spoken like a true Yankee Doodle. America gave Saddam Hussain his weapons includeing the WMD he used to gas kurds. There is great responsibilty by the USA because they were angry at Iran they gave Saddam weapons includeing raw materials for WMD poison gas and platonium, both illegal in war under the geneva convention. The USA also funded religious extremist in Afghanistan during the Afghan/Russia war. Both these allowed Saddam and the Taliban to prosper.

  • Not only did the Taliban destroy the WTC they also have carried out terrorist attacks on many countries that invaded Afghanistan after 911. So looks like the USA has made the world a far more dangerous place. By giveing dictators and extremists weapons. Way to go USA maybe u can give some nukes to Africa ethnic cleansers while you're at it!

  • What are you a nazi?...Still stinging from WWII? One way to measure the greatness of a country is to measure the number of people that want into a country vs. out. Clearly the US leads, and has for centuries now, the world in immigrants coming TO the US. Your country has given one the world's worst murderers the support and JOINED him in the world's worst holocaust. At least when we make a mistake we go back and correct it. Then we build strong, non-violent nations afterward.

  • Hitler would rank third if you count in mass murderers a population figures a percentages would be in second Mao Tsetung and in firts place Stalin, Stalin being supported by amercian bussnesman and Goverment for much of its reing.

  • Also, genius: How many terrorist attacks have there been since 2005? We're listening....Your silence is deafening b/c there are not been any...ANY major terrorist attacks in over 3 years. And what have you or your ilk done to help the world? Nothing. The US has made mistakes but it has always been and will always be with freedom, democracy, and future peace of the citizens of the countries we care about and help. Good luck in your world of ignorance and biased stupidity.

  • I guess you are one of those persons who show the world your unbelievable level of ignorance and stupidity every time you open your mouth. It was Al Qaeda, not the Taliban, who masterminded the WTC attack.

  • Al Qaeda and the Taliban are the same thing. It's like saying the United States and America are 2 different places. You didn't do your homework, no recess for you!

  • ok so what can we do to change that?...

  • Whoa! That's an eye opener for sure.

  • aye aye aye

  • What does that mean?

OK, it seems to me momma said the faster you run the behinder you get.

  • this guys voice is soo annoying!

  • Whoopy do

  • "What does it all mean?" is the perfect question for this video. Just facts without conclusions. Good video though, interesting stats.

  • stuckMic it means shit happens. lol

  • OMG! We will be replaced by machines, or in this case by computers. OO That's what it all means. The human touch of things will not exist. We're already a bunch of numbers (social security), and there are a few people who are carrying chips inside of them. Humanity as we now know it will be extinct. >_> Of course if we're smart enough we'll just evolve into a better species, and out smart the computers with human capabilities.
