  • This video was done in the DX9.0c api. I dont know why this is such a big deal when instead of this crap they should be trying to enhance Radiosity rendering techniques, I mean we have GPU's now that have 1,600 processing cores per GPU meaning the Dual GPU's solutions have 3,200 of these cores- add a 2nd of these cards and you have 6,400 cores. We have the hardware to support these advanced rendering techniques but developers have been slow to type code to take advantage of our new hardware!

  • Down with CryEngine 3 Global Illumination! Up with Geomerics Enlighten!

  • @drooblats Enlighten requires preprocessing, and it can only handle moving light sources OR moving/animated objects, not both at once. LPV lighting is done entirely on the fly.

  • i want Cryengine 3 so bad

  • need a new architect... lame apartment, lol.

  • @fastone32 take it easy big guy, it was a joke. cryengine and the modeler of these spaces did a great job and I'm well aware of all sorts of vernacular architecture from around the world... (someone needs a chill pill), and no one, including you, is a waste of a human.

  • @fastone32 the 'lol' was a clue that it was a joke. as far as architectural design, it's not exactly cutting edge, but in actuality it is only a digital model and a test of the game engine. my comment didn't address the housing needs of real ppl. if this is your design i apologize. i didn't mean any harm. in fact it's not a bad design. don't feel bad, ok? on topic: i liked the video and cryengine 3 demo, thanks. btw, u a cheater? lol<<

  • Really nice stuff so far!

  • Awesome! This light diffusion is just amazing. I'm diggin this thing.

  • Looks like Unreal and Heavy Rain.

I was hoping machine gun fire and explosions would tear up that apartment. Just like that ad for Black on the PS2.

  • of course it looks like unreal and heavy rain.

the games of today al try to look as realistic as possible. and theres only one reality(visible for us but thats a whole other discussion i dont care about)Becouse of that the graphics of games look more and more alike.

Also this is a ilumination demo. this is like the pre pre pre alpha build of the game. it could be that they didint even create explosions yet.

(altough i would also like to see that place blow to smithereens :D )

  • My comment has more to do with the fact that a recent update to the Unreal 3 engine featured that exact stone archway space as their tech demo, and Heavy Rain screen shots and videos feature an extremely similar looking apartment.

  • This particular location was modeled by many people and is available free online. Lots of people get the model of that building and practice their lighting skills in their favorite renderer with it.

  • It's the Sponza Atrium, which is a fairly standard test case for global illumination algorithms. Apartments, eh. Couldn't tell you.

  • @InvalidPointer

You can now download this version of Sponza from Crytek's website.

  • Thanks, I'll probably mess with that once I get around to implementing light propagation volumes myself ;)

  • They have created explosions, watch the CE3 GDC2009 trailer.

As stated before this techdemo is to showcase illumination, look at how the colour bleeds onto close objects and into the fog. This is global illumination in REALTIME.

  • the light reflektion of the green carpets is to ekstreme

  • I hope PC keeps using CryEngine2, it graphically looks better than CryEngine3 (made for consoles)

  • We have to wait for PC footage of CE3, it will look much better, don't worry.

  • no, your wrong, it looks worse on consoles because consoles arnt nearly as powerful as PC's, if you have noticed in this video they are using CE3 and running it on DX9c, CE3 is a more refinded advanced and more developed version of CE2+ more features, think of it as a package that devs can buy and developer their games on.

  • I think this engine will be more interesting for outdoors settings rather than indoors and buildings

  • i31(dot)tinypic(dot)com/nl7nfn(dot)jpg

  • The great thing about this is that they have realtime light bouncing that takes into account the color of the surface it bounces from, taking with it some of that surfaces color onto the next close bounce. For instance the slight tone of green near the wall of the green carpet. This is done in realtime with AO! using a DX 9 api, so this is most likely console footage. Not only has this never been done before, it's without a doubt the most impressive visuals on a console to date!Idiots don't know.

  • Wow, this was good. Impressive tech, and a very good engine. Can't wait to see it in action with the controller in my hand.

  • WOW!

  • Graphically, yes.

    Technologically, no.

CryTek optimized this engine to work on consoles, and that on its own is worth a million merits.

  • They use low settings and 600p res console and 30fps...

    Hey grats !!!

  • jizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • really don' understand the greatness of this video :/

  • the big deal is how light bounces on a colored surface , coloring things near it.

  • ahh ok, thats pretty sick.

  • Actually, it's pretty accurate. There aren't a lot of light sources, so this is the kind of lighting you'd expect.

  • NIce to see how engine can callculate all the lighting effects in real time.. but didnt they show this already?

  • NO!!!

  • my head just exploded

  • Aesome Stuff!!, and that on DX9c is pretty impressive

  • That's the whole point: looks exactly as DX10 render in Crysis, but uses DX9 for its needs!
