  • excellent.....remember, this is his interpretive version!!!!!

  • God damn! I didn't know John Mayer could play like that!!!

  • SRV .... Nuff Said.

  • Joe Bonamassa wipes his ass of with the likes of Mayer

  • Only he could make chopping a mountain down with your hand sound weak. I'm so disappointed he has stripped everything that made the song great away.

  • respect bro.

  • respect respect i didnt know this guy could rip it like this. i always knew he was good but this is great

  • If you guys-and gals-think Hendrix was good,Check out Freddie Lee(Freddie Lee Band)! Now,there's a real Kick a-- guitar wizard!

  • lavva-lavva this slowfast version, lavva!

  • Love that the intro is a mix of hear my train comin and catfish blues and voodoo chile blues rolled into one. Awesome.

  • Mother fucker can play man.

  • god he just fucking melted my face...

  • Any guitarist has to respect John Mayer.

  • i heard somewhere Muddy Waters' 'Rollin Stone' inspired Hendrix to write the riff for 'Voodoo Child'. and this is like a fusion of the two. totally unexpected, and cool!

  • Does anyone know where this was at? or how to play it

  • nothin but greasy bedroom guitarists dislike this..

  • This is just sick....simple, down tempo, awesome!!!!!

  • Be glad someone is still playing this kind of music on the big stage. Hes not bad at it either. Hendrix RIP

  • lol more of a jam session then voodoo chile but still just as sick

  • lets clear some shit up

he started playing pop okay true and i guess noone likes pop stars

his later stuff is bluesy though and to choose blues over pop when you're already popular is pretty fucking respectable

  • He is godlike

  • @TheErnieballman Hendrix not Hendricks but I agree with you to a point. very few people can sound around Hendrix. but some just go for their own style and take on Hendrix's songs. I know I can't get near Hendrix's sound.

  • @TheErnieballman Forgetting about Stevie Ray Vaughan?

  • its funny.. when "rock stars" used to sleep around in the 70's or write songs about getting laid or doing drugs it was cool. now john mayer does it and hes a douche

  • @bntice

You're a retard and know nothing of serious guitar work or Rock and Roll, go back to sleep....

  • Its really great that someone new is still inspired by the classics! I too still find inspiration in Hendrix's music! In fact i have done a cover of his VoodooChild in a modernist way come over to my channel and give it a listen!!

    Thanks:)

  • definitely the most original version of voodoo chile I have heard

  • Mayer is playing the best guitar of this milennium... the only problem is he's a supreme douchebag

  • @bluestastic he is lame on guitar. stick to pop songs, please

  • I bet i could get more pussy playing this version than hendrix's

  • Mayer is known for his pop hits, but the man can play. Totally respect him.

  • *adds fuel to the fire* John Mayer < Jimi Hendrix

  • Comment removed

  • honestly this is really fucked up Hendrix cover, fuck you john mayer

  • @MsSuperSnooker na...fuck you. obviously a talentless troll

  • I am a man, i can tell the truth, i hate john mayer because he was fucking jessica simpson before she was fat!! I am SO jealus of his dick

  • the world is so lucky to have this guy. he expresses himself with ease through acoustic and electric. this should be a staple for any modern musician. lets give taylor swift a strat and a blues progression and lets see what she does.

  • yall cant play like that

  • Comment removed

  • @HeynLinger dont go all obama on me man

  • He has a thin tone. More suitable for clapton stuff. He can't really play as dirty as Stevie. He needs to do more drugs! No jk.

  • @DistortedV12

DAMN RIGHT BRO. More drugs would rip it off better. :D

  • somebody can get me mp3 of this video?

  • I'm convinced that John Mayer is the child of BB King,Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

  • fuck you john mayer

  • @Stratobendix81 ya jealous of him are ya...go cry little baby

  • @guttersnipephil

fuck johny mayer and you too

  • Thank you Zeppelin1996! My thoughts exactly! I will take anyone who actually can play a guitar over any of that commercial, mass-produced, sugar-coated crap any day of the week. I am hoping that REAL music will rise again. Please God!

John MAyer is real. So hard to find anyone who can actually play the instrument anymore. :( :(

  • KWS is just another surfer stereotype platine fag thinking he is so cool just by closing his eyes and concentrating. This version is really good since JM keeps the simplicity of JH's version mixed with the feeling of SRV's clean style. I concur that awards will never prove the real level of a guitarist but still, JH, SRV and JM are goddamn great guitarist, such as many others, but KWS will stay a fag. Now, hands down to JM and let's watch the...picture...

  • @lariog31 You seem to have very little knowledge of KWS. GIven that he plays on a regular basis with members of Double Trouble, Chris Layton has toured with him, and BB King refused to play the House of Blues in Chicago when KWS was under 21 means he has the respect of his predecessors and his peers. I'll take their opinion on whether or not he can play over yours any day.

  • @gnjaxon I know he is a fag as a matter of fact i slept with him

  • @banazo00 Just because a musician get's nominated or wins a grammy doesn't mean that they're the better musician. Hands down Kenny pretty much copied SRV's version to the T.. Which is still impressive, and JM is good also.. But Hand's down if you think either one of these goons are better than SRV you should go kill yourself now lol. Just sayin' :).

  • Every guitarist has a different style. Nobody can play like SRV but nobody can play like John Mayer either. deal with it people

  • havent checked if people were seeing this video or not until now. holy shit.

    and HATERS GON HATE

  • Kenny wayne shepherd's version is one big clinic on how it should be done. Only SRV and Shepherd do this song justice

  • @fenderjaguar1985

HELLS YES! I have seen the Ottawa show of Experience Hendrix this year with Kenny Wayne Shepperd, Johnny Lang, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, and enough other guitar greats to blow your mind, but Kenny Wayne ABSOLUTELY blew the top off of the show with his playing of Voodoo Child. It was unreal.

  • @MayorRitzia Try to see a recent version of Voodoo Child, performed by John Mayer, like the one that he made at Red Rocks in 2010

  • @fenderjaguar1985 i dont know man i think jimi would have dug this

  • @fenderjaguar1985

If you watch the Experience Hendrix DVD or the you tube clips, Mato Nanji totally blows away Shepherd. I'm not saying Nanji is a true original talent, but he is better than Shepherd there, and would give Mayer a serious run.

  • @fenderjaguar1985 Absolutely not. SRV did his own thing with the song, and Shepherd played an exact copy of SRV's version. Mayer's version (this song) is pretty original, at least as far as I've heard. I can't even listen to all of KWS's version of VC.

  • the " tone " is classic fender strat into fender amp .......and its been around longer than john mayer .......or S.R.V. for that matter......and will probably be around forever......at the end of the day its all ripped off from the original bluesman of the mississippi delta every one has their own twist on the blues .......so is it really a rip off ?

  • ha...no prob...something about KWS that just doesn't work at all for me...I'm not even that big of a Mayer fan really....but he at least keeps his improvisations spontaneous....KWS just regurgitates the same post-SRV licks over and over....

  • at 0:32 why is he playing spoonful?

  • I'm not a massive fan of John Mayer but i respect and appreciate how talented he is.

  • I don't think that the people who went on his concert knew that this was Hendrix cover

  • John Mayer is so much more then what people hear on the radio lol. If they only knew

  • @33McGhie Right

  • this is just adorable loll but if im gonna be proud of my generation for something??? its gonna be JACK WHITE... the best to ever do it!

  • @mikepunchyourfucface LOL! Try The Black Keys. 100% better! You're definitely on the right track though!

  • @nutinurmacaroni HEHEH The Black keys are so much better and original then Mayer

  • 64 Bieber fans

  • say what you want this is fucking groovy

  • wow....this is pretty smokin....Kenny Wayne Shepherd should take some notes....

  • @carcariden thanks for the lol's. I agree my friend.

  • I don't know. John is great, but I think Kenny Wayne would school him in a duel. Haha. All in good fun, of course.

  • every guitar god you've worshipped in the past 3 decades is all wrapped into this one gentleman right here... I'll throw up my *horns* for John Mayer 8 days out of the week.

  • what performance is this? is there a video of it?

  • the beginning sounds a little bit like the catfish blues from jimi hendrix.

    john is so fucking great.

  • Stevie was a piece of crap guitarist, and he sounds like him, there's not a single bit of Hendrix in this bullcrap.

  • @lukat93 woooow your so dumb

    listen to the vibes man

  • @heavyload1969 Lukat93 is right Mayer is a good guitarist but there is not a single bit of Hendrix in him.

  • @lukat93 Stevie ray vaughan was a piece of crap guitarist? What are you a fuckin republican? SRV was one of the greatest players in history. You can not like it, but its fact. So as Tom Hanks once said... GO FUCK YOURSELF.

  • wow, 64 dislikes.....this is amazing guitar playing. despite the fact that john mayer is kind of a douche, he plays awesome blues guitar.

  • "If you sat down and asked these guys can you do this or that and played with them. then you can make an accurate assumption" the logic of your argument suggests that to make an accurate determination of one players ability over another one must be in front of the two .does it then follow that i cannot claim paul gilbert's technical superiority over hank marvin's because i have not sat with the 2 and quizzed them ? i make the statement with the evidence at hand . given that .its accurate.

  • i am sick and tired that people talk shit about john mayer covering jimi hendrix songs...saying things like he shouldnt play jimi songs....like if they could do better...and if he cant play jimi songs then nobody cant cause i bet if you went up against john he would leave you and you guitar speechless

P.S. this message is to all haters who dont know how to enjoy music

  • @ramiroguitar23

Next to SRV Mayer is by a long shot the best guy to cover hendrix.

  • @Carthsgtr Dunno, Eric Gales has got it down

  • @BeatsAndPulses

That's fucking stupid. Gales doesn't have half the vibrato, the soul or the style to even lick Hendrix's boot. He looks like a clown. Most good bedroom teen guitarists are better than Gales.

  • @Carthsgtr Alright, entitled to your own opinion. But do me a favour and calm the fuck down?

  • @BeatsAndPulses

Yeah. Doesn't mean you are right though.

  • @Carthsgtr Yeah, its just my opinion man, its in no way correct, I personally think his covers are good, you don't and thats fine.

  • @Carthsgtr SRV covers are great too i personally like them both SRV gives Jimi songs a bluesy feel and John a more mellow tone...but hey man thats your opinion if you dont like John Mayer covers than simply dont listen to them thats all i can tell you

  • @ramiroguitar23

Im talking about Gales. I love Mayer. You clearly didn't read what I said.

  • @ramiroguitar23 agreed, if one doesnt like his face, just listen..... Undeniably fantastic!!

  • isn't this a cover of the non-return?

  • If only he'd stop playing/writing pop songs. He should stick to what he was born with...a talent to play the blues.

  • Anyone who complains about this guy, listen up. In this day and age we are constantly bombarded with talentless fools lip synching for millions of fans who seem to think that they're great. There are no more guitar players from this generation that can play near as good as John Mayer. He may have a lot of songs that are much more pop than blues, but when he does play the blues, you can't deny the fact that he is great. So who would you rather listen to? Maybe some Jonas Brothers or Bieber?

  • @zeppelin1996 "There are no more guitar players from this generation that can play near as good as John Mayer" lol bonamassa wipes the floor with him as does derek trucks. im not going to argue kenny wayne shepherd or jonny lang, but i will tell you there are many better players from this gen just becase you dont know them dont asume..

  • @MUDSHARK111 Mayer has more soul than Bonamassa, that guy over plays waaaaaayyyy too much, hes like a metal player playing blues. There is no way to compare because you have not jammed with any of these guys.

  • @dimepage "Mayer has more soul than Bonamassa, that guy over plays waaaaaayyyy too much" there is no debate on who is tachnicly better the rest is all subjective .personally i find john a bit to vanilla heard it all before you know? joe paints with a wider brush and yep sure it touches on shredding on occasion .but it tickles me . if you like john more cool . but i think there are others with more to offer. that's not to say hes a bad player he certainly not but hes not the only player either.

  • @MUDSHARK111 Yea i used to love Joe, it was around the time i was getting out of metal, so i guess his technical ability appealed to me more. But ive seen Mayer sweep pick, we dont know who is better technically, the only reason that we can make an assumption is what we hear them play. If you sat down and asked these guys can you do this or that and played with them. then you can make an accurate assumption

  • @zeppelin1996 ithat's true he is a very good guitar player but he is a dumb ass. I know that's not the point but I fucking hate this guy.

  • @zeppelin1996 That is the truth.

  • word, zeppelin. I don't know much about his personal life and I don't care. He's a damn good all around musician.

  • @zeppelin1996 No, I'd rather listen to the originals that were done well. Jesus, just because I don't like Mayer doesn't mean I'm a Bieber fan. Its a stupid insult.

Kudos to Mayer for trying to bring back blues. I wish he could do it as well as my 60 year old guitar teacher who is not famous but oh, what the hell.

  • @zeppelin1996 John Frusciante most definitely is the new age guitar god. Mayer is nice tho.

  • Comment removed

  • @zeppelin1996 actually there are... Bonamassa, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Kotzen...so on so on.... ;)

  • @zeppelin1996

I must say: U ARE AWESOME! U think exactly what I do and your "Youtube-name" Is Zeppelin1996!

Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, and Mayers awesome cover-skills FOR LIFE!!!!

  • @bebbenr7bazz Haha, thanks bro.

  • @zeppelin1996 Check out Joe Bonamassa and Eric Gales. Same generation.

  • @HeynLinger Yeah I know. I kind of worded that wrong. Even then, he's still great.

  • @zeppelin1996

There are definatly many better guitarist then him, but he is good

  • @zeppelin1996 Exactly. John Mayer can absolutely fucking shred. He plays pop because that's the only shit that sells. And if any of you fools don't believe me, listen to Fall Out Boy's cover of Michael Jackson's Beat It. John Mayer owned the Van Halen solo.

  • He's a great guitarist....why's it go to waste?

  • Damn, he's tight!

  • he have the stevie touch, but waste it with pop shit

  • Comment removed

  • @AcesInSpades Lmao, so you don't like SRV then either? If you don't like this version, you won't like SRV's version. So, by your standards, SRV is a "piss poor musician". You do realize how retarded of a statement that is, correct?

  • @AcesInSpades I am not being sarcastic I just want to know what's behind this opinion of yours. Why, to you, is this an example of a "piss poor musician".

  • this man is amazing... if uve seen him play this live u KNOW FOR A FACT he has obsessed over stevie

  • i agree with hetro27 about the fact maye wont be a legend. thats because of 2 reasons: since battle studies he's is only making commercial music. and he's born too late. if he was born 30 years earlier he would made a change

  • Why can't he just play like this all the time? Like, I might actually like him if he did. The talent is there, he's just misusing it...

  • He's so up himself.with no real reason to be his only decent songs are covers e.g free falling. He will never be a legend like hendrix

  • @hetro27 he allready is a legend, can you play like that? -

No. so go watch some justin bieber videos. Fag.

oh and @paulsoud, check out check out vultures off the where the light is album live in la.

  • a lot of guys are saying it sounds just like SRV. OPEN YOUR FUCKING EARS. it sounds like mayer, stevie's was brutal force going 1000 mph. this is delta style voodoo. people just think because he has good tone, automatically assume that it sounds like Stevie. to bad your line 6 with your shitty Squier can't sound like SRV or Mayer. Get a life, and if anyone says he sounds like SRV, you must not know what Stevie really sounds like then. just my opinion

  • @Bluestouse86 this is nothing like delta style "voodoo" this is john fucking mayer fagbait.and it does sound like SRV because it sounds like every other idiot on earth trying to sound like Jimi hendrix R.I.P who was the king over everyone.

  • @xXkingPurpXx so you mean to tell me "fagbait" that mayer sounds like stevie, or maybe the other way around... i'm not saying there is no influence from either Hendrix, or SRV. Who doesnt have influences. The beginning is totally SRV "STYLE" but its not stevie. John goes into his little "Mayer Trance" and not only that but i'd say its more like Hendrix, with a Pop style/delta feel to it, which is his own. You only wish you could be at mayer's level. Hate him or not, he does pack stadiums

  • @Bluestouse86 im just going to say no. you sound like you are drunk. and by "mayer trance" you mean "terrible attempt at sounding like hendrix with absolutly not a 1/4 the talent let alone eeverything else... that has so little power in comparison...its just ...terrible. and so is john mayer. I was born to kick john mayers ass. havent you seen him beefing up? he knows its coming.

  • @xXkingPurpXx i think you are funny. You actually made my day by showing me how stupid the general population is. I think you have a crush on mayer, talkin bout how he is beefing up. You want him to butt fuck you with his "beefy" cock and spoon you with this version of voodoo chile playing on the t.v. in your purple bedroom with pink sheets. Also, where do i know you from... oh thats right your not famous, so mayer must be doing somthing right. Peace

  • I'd have to say that this sounds a bit too close to Stevie Ray for me...I mean the riffs are practically note for note and the tone is pretty darn close to Stevies too. I think its great that he's playing Voodoo Chile but,...make it your own at least a little. At least Stevie made it his own version. Like I said, its a great cover but, if your not gonna make it your own somehow you belong in a bar band doing it and not a big stage that people have paid big $ to see you play. Just my opinion.

  • He's the next great guitarist in talent. But when it comes to the stuff on his CD's, they're nothing compared to what he's playing here.

  • I laugh at the fact that everyone who was actually at this show probably loved the hell out of this performance, yet there are a bunch of dudes on their computers listening to an audio rip of it, and bitching about a guy they wish they could be.

  • @adamsimonsmusic i couldnt agree more

  • @adamsimonsmusic amen.

  • @adamsimonsmusic thanks! a much needed change on the page!

Enjoy the music you all. Thats All

  • @adamsimonsmusic dude, I definitely wish I was john mayer

  • @adamsimonsmusic you dont get it, maybe because you're laughing so hard. there are hundreds of people out there who can do what he's doing. keep it in perspective. three letters, KWS

  • @wmc1103 Has KWS won 6 grammy's? No. What does that prove you ask? That JM is a far better musician then KWS will ever be, and proves JM can work the system to his ways.

  • @banazo00 musician, yes. guitarist, god no. thats all i was sayin. forever. get with it, bro

  • @adamsimonsmusic facebook, maybe fagbook

  • great tone

  • Hey wankers, John Mayer is playing Hendixs material live. Its not what he based his career on its a tribute to a great artist and songwriter. He's not sitting in his room wanking off he's playing material that most have not heard live in almost 50 years.

If any of the critics can say the same more power to them. I doubt it. His revenge on the wankers is that he's the real deal with a succesful professional career and their full of shit

  • @scottduncan44

"He's playing material that most have not heard live in almost 50 years."

    Speak for yourself.

  • @67goldtops It would be more accurate to state that many if not most of Meyers fans are not familiar with Hendrix material, most of John Mayers fans were not alive when Hendrix died and go to his concerts to here his original material. What John Mayer does is very similiar to what Eric Clapton does with the blues which is to expose a new audience to the material that has significantly influenced them

as artist. Now tell the truth aren't you really upset about being a closet wanker?

  • Comment removed

  • @scottduncan44

During the Cream days, Clapton was called, "Master of the Cliche." While the title crushed him, it wasn't too far off. At that point, while he could certainly burn, he hadn't yet become as stylized as he was to later. One could clearly pick out the influences in his phrasing. I think John is in a similar place in terms of phrasing & tone. Fantastic player, & I love his commitment to each note. Just not too original. Oh, & the only closet I wank in is your dead mother's.

  • @gonzoidz

What? You got nothing to say? Guess not..

  • I wish you people would shut the hell up about John Mayer. Hendrix and Stevie Ray may be dead but that doesn't mean their music died with them. CARRY THE TORCH JOHN!!!!!

  • @dukefan24112 thank you bro , why is everyone hating on john mayer he loves srv ,hendrix just as much as us he is influenced by them if anything he is showing respect them to them hes better than justin beiber? yes i thought so

  • A really good performance, good for all Hendrix......hello from Italy e dai Monterey Flame....

  • Gonzoids, ur a blabbering fool if you think Stevie doesn't sound anything like hendrix. U say the true source of Mayer is srv, well why don't you do us all a favor and go listen to a Hendrix record, I bet you you'll find a lot of shit that sounds like Stevie.. And btw if you are the guitarist for a band called gonzoid, then you guys really suck.

  • for anyone says mayer is shit or a rip off, when was the last time you played an SRV song in front of thousands of screaming people, keeping this music alive, instead of sitting in your bedroom with a 10w practice amp, a strat and playing your own version. your own version which you are probably nicking most of your licks from some other guitarists. so if you can't hack that you don't get to play classic songs like this for your job, then don't litter the internet with your jealous rants.

  • @mike8storm

What a dickhead Mayer fanboy! I didn't say he was shi t, he's a great copyist. Maybe the best SRV copyist out there, much better than me at SRV for sure, but he's bereft of his own sound and approach. A fanboy like you will lap it up but I know the true source. I'm not one of these guys whose sat down and worked out SRV note for note, pointless! But I suggest YOU get back to your 10w amp and learn all you can from the original: S R V, and take your tongue out of Mayer's ass!!

  • Leave it to THE Expert ... JIMI HENDRIX !!!!!!

  • @jdotsta

Would Hendrix cover John Mayerif alive? Here is my version of Mayer, ripping off me, ripping off Stevie Ray, ripping off everyone else...

  • and btw gonzoidz, john mayer's own stylings are in the slower tempo, the catfish blues like verses, and the different chords in the turn around... in case you don't know what a turnaround is, that's the part where he sings i'm a voodoo child. and his own riffs are all over the song mixed in with his influences.. who never sounds anything like his influences huh? stevie sounded like hendrix

  • @joskam092

SRV didn't sound like Hendrix or anything like him. Compare any SRV Hendrix cover and its nothing like Hendrix. You have revealed your tone deaf idiocy.

  • Gonzoids, everyone in this string of comment posts knows you're an idiot. let me ask you a question. You say that john mayer is "aping" srv's sound, style and that this is a rip off after one note... hmm, well why is it that you like stevie so much? considering he basically "aped" hendrix with his almost identical version of voodoo chile.. i'll tell you why, because stevie's an outstanding guitar player, and that's exactly what john mayer is. So get over yourself and your endless guitar knowledg
