I am listening to Bruce Dickinsons rock show on BBC Radio 6 and he just read an email from a listener in Seattle who said they had been watching Flying Heavy Metal on DVD... so look out for it :)
i think the americans are more successful because the brits make the first move and the americans capitalise on there mistakes or flaws due to it being the first of its kind
I always wonder if he has to make an announcement to his passengers to the effect of:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, the cabin crew has asked me to confirm a query many of you have had...yes, I am THAT Bruce Dickinson. Please stop asking. Thank you."
or
"Ladies and Gentlemen, this announcement is to clarify: I will not be taking requests for Still Life or Clansman, as it would require me to take my attention away from the controls and jeopardise your lives. Thank you."
The Comet 1 did indeed have square windows - but at least one of the two Comets that crahed (the Elba incident) came down , not because a window aperture ruptured, but because an aperture in the roof - behind which was an ADF aerial - failed.
During the water tank test on G-ALYU at Farnborough, it was indeed a window that failed.
The pre-stressed skin of the fuselage of an aircraft carries a significant load. There is no chassis in an aircraft: bulkheads and longerons do the job with substantial help from the skin. It is mathematically and practically proven that the corners of a square shaped window offer less shear and tensile resistance than a smooth curved one. As a matter of fact, it is interesting to know that for a B747-400 flying at 36,000 ft, there is a load of 1.4 tons on its door due to internal pressure!!!
De Havilland paid the price for being pioneers. They took a gamble in 1949 and it nearly paid off. However, their stress calculations regarding pressurisation were incorrect resulting in the Mk 1 Comet being fatally flawed. The final Comet version, the Mk IV, had no such problems, but by the time it entered service in 1958, the larger Douglas DC-8 and Boeing 707 were arriving on the scene.
The comet was the worst plane ever, hundreds of people died because it had aerodynamic deficiencies. It used to explode in high altitude because its airframe could not handle the cabin air pressure. Thats why the boeing 707 was the most popular and successful plane
bruce rules!a top character! a top singer! a top pilot! I saw maiden live in sydney australia in feb 08!! I wanna be like bruce, fly planes forever!!!!

Think the captain flying with Bruce on the 757 at the start was Captain John Mahon - he presents ITVV's GO B737-300 flight deck video.

square windows carry a geometry which allows pressure to build while oval or rounded corners creates less tension on the actual fixings i believe.

Dear All,
I have some questions about psychology on aviation:
*Why do we love flying?
*Why do we relate flying with our full potentials and with our successes?
*Why do we use the phases "take off" and "fly high" as a kind of adjectives to describe our success of our hard working?
*Why do we used the word "runway" as a expression of optimistic future of a person/ a team?
*Why do we relate aviation with freedom?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!!
