If you listen to enough of their stuff you'll see their playing style covers the full musical spectrum. If John plays a Latin inspired guitar solo then its Latin music at that time. Get it.

As a guitar player, I grew up with Iron Maiden, Judas priest, etc. I loved playing their music on guitar. A lot of it is childs play though. Full distortion, whale on a G bar chord for 5 minutes, and your are done. *yawn*

DT and DTE are actually a challenge to play.

And btw, DT has covered bands like Iron Maiden in the past. Probably bored them to tears. :)

The album actually is a live recording I believe, anyway they do that a lot but the best bands are those who not only replicate the studio performances live but those who play better on stage. And Dream theater are one of those bands for example the version of Metropolis from Live at the Marquee is much bett-a than the studio version.
