I'd expect Godfather running Blazer into Jarrett would've led to the team breaking up if Owen would've survived Over The Edge
Too bad he lost his last televised match. Owen was not pushed properly. According to Jim Cornette (whose neutrality is questionable), Owen was promised a "revenge for the screwjob" storyline, but Shawn & co. refused to work with him or put him over.

They were going to push Owen by having him split with Jarrett due to a love triangle, involving Debra. But Owen wouldn't do it, as he didn't want his kids to even think that he was cheating on their mother. So, as an alternative or punishment (depending on who you ask), they had Owen do his "Blue Blazer" gimmick again.
