  • Or over 87MPH (as of today)

  • In my Alero GL (pre-owned). I can get up to 130km/h in less then a minute. I think my car might be modified because according to everyone here, that shouldn't be possible :-S

  • @an97an mine too bro lol wierd

  • I don't understand why people have to bitch about aleros, they are clearly an affordable v6 or 4 cylinder sedan, with A LITTLE BIT A PEP TO THEM IF ITS A 3.4L!. that is all,not a race car or sports car JUST AN ALERO!!...note: I own an gls sedan with the 3.4l and I like them fairly well for what they are a source of transportation!

  • You are all retarded.....unless you are hitting your limiter in the 1/4 mile, it is unnecessary and you are just endangering people on the streets.......GROW UP!

  • hmm i tested mine out and it quit at about 115, have any idea why?

  • @Raven69XXXX stock parts are limited and well most motors just running on Drive cant go over 85-115 so you have to play with the gearing a lil bit not to mention a lil tune

  • @alteramod i agree wit u... My 2000 3.4 alero has about 250,000 miles. It sees the 6,000 rpm range on a DAILY basis!! Lol no problems or complaints from it!! ;)

  • I don't know what you guys are talking about. I have an '03 GL2 V6, (112,000 miles) and the engine is just fine. Maybe you guys just don't know how to take care of a car engine. The governor is really low on my particular model, though. My Alero quits at 113 mph.

  • i got my 2000 alero gls with the 3.4 auto to hit about 122, no tuning software or anything, just keep the ETS on until you hit 3rd, then turn it off. idk why, it just worked

  • how the fuck u take that off

  • i have the 2000 3.4 auto trans... putting taking it off drive and turning it off... and making it think its at 0 mph is a bad idea. you would skillfully have to put it in 3 rd gear wile moving and not go any lower. cant put it back in drive because if it think its at 0 mph it will go straight to first. and blow up the trans

  • give me some ideas please my 2002 alero only tops out at 105. gay i know. idk what to do. appreciate your input thanks

  • my 2004 alero with the 2.2l ECOTEC DOHC SFI l4

can hit 155, there is a way to cheat the rev limiter and top speed limiter there is a purple wire connected to your trans, if you wire it to a toggle your can turn it on and off to achieve a higher top speed, but id get better tires before you try it, at those speeds a tire blow out is pretty much death in an alero. we used nos in one of mine and a tire blew out an rolled me 8 times. so def check your tires.

  • i know it sounds really sketchy but with gm cars all u need t do is drop the car in neutral turn it off then back on it will trick the computer and it will think its going zero then haul ass what ive heard from my friend hes a gm mechanic

  • I got the same thing, and i'm trying to figure out how to by pass it, the sooner the better, im also considerin a turbo as well... need more power lol

  • Does anyone know how to tweak the gov on the alero

  • You can remove it with tuning software.

  • it's not really about protecting your engine, they want it to have issues anyway so they can get more money. the governor is more in cars so you can't run from cops

  • @Sampson712 Actually there are limiters on cars because if they go as fast as there engines will let them, they will fall apart, parts will rip off, and mostly the tires will explode.

  • my 2001 alero tops out at 130 so idk whats up with urs

  • yeah mine tops around 118mph.

  • @drvrprmt

Bro I own a 2000 Alero and I had the limiter removed and ive reached a speed of 130mph. And mralero is right, they are a fast car for being a 4-door v6. They dont have the greatest acceleration but they have a decent top end gear ratio. And for being a cheap car they are fun for the money like mralero said.

  • you dont need a tune, you need a new car. and why do you call the speed limiter gay? its there because your cars stock tires arent rated for speed, remember its an alero. plus also your car has no top end, the limiter isnt holding you back from much more. it took a good 11 seconds to go from 100 to 105

  • dude if all you want to do is talk shit dont bother you just wasted 11 seconds of your life then

  • its not wasted. and im not talking shit, im stating facts. the truth isnt always nice

  • for a gm pushrod v6 stock cheap car its fast maby not as fast as a mustang or something and accualy after a got the dhp custom tune before i got rid of this car it ran a 14.22 quarter mile in a 4 door car that cost 4000 dollars fun for the money, my big Lincoln can go 147mph with only a 4.6

  • you got rid of it. atleast you made the right choice in the end :) haha

  • Actually, from the looks of the tach, that V6 seemed like it has more to give. I've honestly seen much worse.

  • sure it has more to give, but not alot. it definatly wasnt climbing quickly. ive seen worse too but its not like hes gonna go much more than 10 mph extra

  • Still, 10 mph is somewhat significant at that speed. I just hate in general when any car is restricted by a governor.

  • okay, but tell me why an alero will ever go that fast?

  • @drvrprmt Does it really fucking matter?

  • @drvrprmt tbh kid... it really doesn't matter. cause where ever you go... theres always speed limits.. so unless you can do it at night then your fine... but it ain't like your always going to top out before the end of the race...

  • exactly. the alero doesnt need its governer removed. that was my original point. thanks for backing it up by trying to make me look bad

  • Well, in most cases, it won't. But by that logic, why are sports and super cars made? Why would any car go THAT fast (as in over 170).

I understand what you are arguing, but it's just the fact that the Alero CAN go that fast, but it's limited. It's like an ability thing. Most Lambo owners CAN get to 200 mph, but they probably never do. But of course, most people can't afford Lambos, but most can afford Aleros.

  • It's there to protect the engine.

  • @mralero 14.22 with just a tune.......BS!!

  • @kwhauck Agreed. Bullshit. Next, He'll say he had a tornado throttle body and was able to gain 30hp from it. And 5hp from the stickers?

  • @mralero bro i have an alero automatic i run it at 120 mph and well you need to know your transmision and how you can gear it with the 1,2,3, and D gears cuz man from 0-60 i get 5.3 seconds. and from 0-100 i get 7 seconds so dont complain.

  • @drvrprmt What do you mean "rememeber its an alero"?

  • hmm well maybe if we all didnt run the shit out of our cars and.... just an example but "top speed run" then cars would last longer. Now I have a 2000 alero w/2.4 which is in Pennsylvania were road salts blow. has 75,000 miles on it, parked out of a garage, and has seen the 6,200rpms on a weekly basis and hmmm no engine problems and the body is just gettin a rust spot. Maybe its cause I maintain it like your suppose to idk. Only complaint is the brakes on GM's suck.

  • Comment removed

  • do i hear nine inch nails?

  • shhh! dont let the WMG faggots hear you because they love muting videos with their music on the background..

  • I hit that speed limiter one time. Thought I had blown the transmission.

  • A VW Golf has a top speed of 220 kmph (2.0L Engine, 4 Cylinders).

While the Alero (6 cylinders, 3.4L Engine) can only go 200 kmph?

Besides, my intake gasket, steering rack, head gasket are GONE before the car hit 205,000 KM mark AND it was only driven like 12 km a day!

Not to mention alternator and starter failed in 1 month of each other, along with whole bunch of stuff that I can't remember...

    Horrible car...

  • It's governed at 105 mph, that doesn't mean it can't go faster.

  • Aside from the low top speed, I doubt this car can travel the average trip of 80 km/day even @ 40 kmph for 1 year...

The engine on it is glued together by a Mexican spit.

The top of the engine needs a rebuilt job @ 208,000 KM **ONLY** (mind you it is a V6), the AC needs a BIG repair job...

I mean, I drove my 1990 VW Golf to 286,000 KM before I needed to do a head gasket AND the AC was running cold, and I NEVER replaced the alternator on it (only the belt for $8)!!!

    GM has horrible quality

  • mmm if you say so. I bought my Alero as a cheap daily driver and it's at 150k miles now with all original engine parts (including LIMG gasket) and has no problems. Aside from a hunk missing out of the bumper from a deer, of course.

  • I don't think buying a GM is like a box of chocolate, you don't know which one are you going to get.

It is a lot like buying DOA item, you whenever know when it give its last breath, but you know it is already kissing life goodbye.

Alero was a nightmare, I want to get rid of it.. cheap window motors, cheap interior, noisy engine, leaking gaskets (2: intake manifold & head), AC clutch GONE, poor gas mileage (full tune up), etc tec tec

  • Maybe you're just unlucky as far as engine work goes. I get exceptionally good gas mileage for how I drive (roughly 20-23/28-30) on a car that's never been tuned. I can't argue the AC clutch problem, though if you leave your air settings at least on the lowest it's a non-issue. Window motors? They're slow, but I've had no problems. My friends have had cars with less miles and millions of more problems, none of them were GM cars.

  • actually the V6 engines in the Alero had a hell of a lot of defects. GM ended up recalling them a few years ago but I cant remember why exactly.

  • yes actually i did have some problems but its not mine any more i have a Lincoln with the old reliable 4.6 v8 and a truck with the 5.4 triton v8

  • Yes they do. It's the 3.1, 3.3 & 3.4 engines. The intake gasket design is defective, they usually go before the 100,000km mark. I have a Grand Am with the 3.4. Had to change the intake gasket, only to have one of the cylinder heads crack a few months later. Other than that, the car is great - knock on wood!

  • Use a generic all make all model anti-freeze instead of dexcool

  • maybe you should check on the service engine soon light before you test your car's top speed. what an idiot.

  • not to be rude but i dint know that the low washer fluid light was now the check engine light lol

  • washer fluid is extremely important for your cars performance, it's dangerous to drive when it's low!

  • ive gotten my 2000 up tp 135 before it kicked in

  • What do you mean it kicked it

  • My alero will get up to 135mph before my govenor stops me from going any faster.

  • I once had an Alero. I was racing this asshole who cut me off on the freeway. He was driving a Civic hatchback with a fart can. We happened to be on a rather steep decline so I buried my foot. I left his ass, and I figured with the 3.4, I'd find 140 pretty quick. Wrong. I hit that governor, the shuddered, and wouldn't go above 110. I thought I had blown the transmission, LOL

  • yo all u have to do is run a kill switch to the speedo hot wire and cut power to it because the limiter reads off the speedo

  • Pisses me off that the V6 alero is only limited to 180km/hr...I own one and for the engine size...I WANT MOAR!

  • there is a computer controling the engin that keeps it from going as fast as it can you have to get a little computer chip its really eazy to install you can probably get one at Napa Or AutoZone i got mine off the internet

  • A DHP PCM will clear that up. Hit 122 in mine before I had to slow down. I don't like driving that fast though

  • Would you know what car had them? Were they ever used at all?

  • ya i actually do know of a car with one my parents have a grand am 2001 and it has one in it lol its called a v twin not a v4 its actually really fast but i like my alero more!

  • oh, thanks for the correction.

    (^^^not being jerk! really, thanks)

  • weird how urs is limited, ive got an '01 4 door 4 banger that will do every bit of 140, it only starts rumbling at around 120-130. its completely stock but will have a cold air intake on it soon

  • I have a Oldsmobile LSS. I can get it well over the odometer. So that would be 200Kph+

  • If only you people knew what you were missing out on.

  • i have a stock 2000 gls it top out at 132mph

  • i have a 2002 alero and i dont have no rumble even at 120. also has a turbo, cam and cold air intake 10psi 260whp

  • is it the 3400v6

  • is that a V4 or V6

my first car is a 99 alero 4cyl

can u suggest anything cheap upgrades?

  • mines the 6 but being that you have the 2.4 4cylinder there are so many upgrades for that engine i would put and cold air intake and an exuast for starters, be carefully if you drive through deep water with a cold air intake you could damage your engine, after that i whould do a dhp upgrade, or at least thats whats on my list, frostbite545 is the guy to talk to though

  • V4? haha no such thing, its called a 4cyl then V6 V8 ect ect...

  • I go 90-95 no probs, nice and smooth. if ya got rumble at 70 try balancing your tires.

  • Yea. I have a 01 and I toped out at 112mph. Going to do a few upgrades. I'm thinking about getting a bot on tubro and a cold intake.

  • lol no offense but why would you want to go faster than that in a alero, they start rumbling after like 70!

  • iv never had that problem at 95 mph its smooth as hell handles great, and you mash the gas and it has more to give, o well at least you like ford i have and explorer great suv

  • lol yea thats always a good thing!

  • some people give aleros a bad rap i personally love the car, some people hate my explorer but i also love it two great vehicles

  • true...

  • i have never had a rumble. i go 70-75 on the interstate all the time.

  • custom tune ur pcm with HP tuners if you wanna get rid of it.

  • any one know how to get rid of the limiter
