Not many have heard of the NEO Geo it was an arcade machine then they put the arcade motherboard in a console and sold it to posh japanese hotels. Demand for it grew for the home so they re marketed it for home uses and exported it. Because it had same hardware as a real good arcade machine of the early 1990s it cost a alot and the games were massive alot of rom chips in each cartrige so the games cost a lot too. So it was not built to dominate the console market.

yeah becuse partially becuse the neo geo had a cult-like audience,and it was too expensive to compete with sne and genesis int he console war at the time

That's not to huge a suprise. Some of the people from R-Type worked on this game. My memory is a bit hazy but I think it might've even had the same art director, or even project lead.
