  • i eat fish once in a while and catch and release, but since i live in south fla i see things much worse that those pics from the sea and lakes and rivers and hunting too

  • i wonder what dolphin tastes like? anybody know

  • @noonecares88 IT PROBABLY TASTES LIKE,,,''SHAME''

  • @noonecares88 it doesn't taste good so im told. Fishermen were forced to eat it when they starved during the Great Leap forward.

  • O God, my strength is not enough for such a horror to watch It's horrible

  • think abaout it.....and change it

  • Over Fishing is DESTROYING a natural food source at our current rate of fishing. Fishing in General needs to cease in my opion, at least for a while, so fish populations can regrow. PLASTIC should be abolished because its not bio degradible, and its toxic. and SHARK FINNING needs to stop too. If we dont change our way of life, our ocean will be an deserted aquatic WASTELAND !!!

  • how to help ?

    we STOP eating fish !

  • I appreciate this video so much, i respect what you are doing with spreading the information about overfishing. Thank you

  • You post a vid of overfishing... What do you think the ones who are fishing are doing it for?, They need it to SURVIVE.

  • Most yields are determined by the gov't most of the yields you are showing in the beginning are apprioate for the species.

  • What is the name of the song?

  • This video makes me want to cry. It's horrible seeing what people are doing to the ocean. I want to help, so bad, but I don't know how. I'm a vegetarian, and although my mum is persistent on still eating meat, I've convinced her to buy dolphin friendly tuna. I don't know what else I can do. If anybody can message me how I can help, please do! It would mean a lot. It's sad to see what humans are doing to this world. I might be only 12, but I want to make a change. (:

  • I doubt it's 75 percent. We only fish in about 2 percent of the ocean...It's too big to say we're actually doing that much damage. I mean God, we can't even go far enough down it to see most of the fish. We're overfishing 75 percent of fish we eat, but not 75 percent of the fish in the ocean.

  • Amazing video, thanks very much! I have a fisheries management exam tomorrow, reminds me why I chose to study this!

  • 2.30 is horible

  • thats why i stop eating meat fish

  • Whatever endings us humans have we deserve it ? You should spectate some biological laws implemented on fisherman unjustly, take for instance FL where fisherman are required to use gear with a 98 % bycatch rate. These biologists and agencies are supposedly the protectors of our resources ? What a JOKE !!! Rather than placing the blame on the fisherman, you all should look toward the agencies governing our fisheries and fisherman, the TRUTH may surprise you !!

  • overfishing really does kill

watch the video in my account to see the destructive forces of Blue fin Tuna being overfished

  • Whatever ending us humans have, we deserve it. I grew up in a Greek village, and I used to go fishing with my Grandfather. We said, you catch the fish, and you don't waste one bit of it. We ate everything on every animal. Fish, chicken, pork, everything. I understand, turning vegetarian is hard, so you don't have to. Just limit your meat eating. That's what I do. I just hate the way they treat the animals and fish. Cows and chickens get tortured before manufacture. Just kill them quick.

  • Laws here in North Carolina , USA require fisherman to kill fish " bycatch " in order to harvest certain species. We must obtain a 50 % bycatch rate to harvest red drum and striped bass. Meaning, if 50 lbs of striped bass are harvested, 50 lbs of an unnecessary specie must be harvested as well ! For red drum the bycatch must total 51 %.If drum or striped bass are harvested prior to our " bycatch ", we are entitled to release them dead or alive. Biological laws dictate overfishing as well !

  • Let us destroy everything. That's the only end we deserve.

  • They belong to no one indeed !!! At least some reasonable intelligence stated ! Though nature has ownership, we as humans depend on nature to thrive. Fish are a part, though through sustainable practices. Laws here in eastern US, NC. promote sustainable fishing for the most part, so this is probably vid of other countries ? If bycatch is a concern, look toward biological law, may make you think first !!

    To oblige, its STRIKENETTER !

  • these fish belong in the sea/ocean not piled on a boat :(

  • PS. Love this song though !!!!!

  • OK, in places where overfishing is present, implemented laws here in NC.are causing disfunction. The fisherman are being introduced to laws with no probable since. Overfishing isn't present yet laws are being implemented subjecting our livelyhoods to further aggression in regards to our way of living ! Sick and unintelligent ? Anytime you feel the need to converse with me the subject at hand i shall be obliged to correspond ! Perhaps the ignorance lies within your own mind !

  • i cant believe how sick and unintelligent some of the people posting comments on this video are. if you honestly believe that human beings are superior because we are able to 'exterminate' other species, then you are personally responsible for fucking this entire planet. i hate you. please go kill yourself egodeosum, you will be doing everyone else a favor. you are truly mentally defective

  • your other vids said 90 % of the fish were overfished, so which is it, 75 % or 90 % or has 15 % of them been caught since i clicked on this vid?

  • great fishing vid loved it, nets full of fish, if we were overfishing u would see boats and nets with no fish !!! for anyone who likes eating fish, eat all u can now, for in the future u will not be able to , will be a thing of the past !!! special interest groups like this are dwindling away at our god given food sources for what reason, MONEY !!!!! don't be fooled, green peace is a huge money making corporation, large donations !!!!! EAT FISH WHILE U CAN these people only eat rabbit food !

  • I think another gigantic issue with this is the amount of frozen seafood that goes to waste every year. How many of you right now have a can of tuna or....or some frozen product in your freezers right now that is either out of date or never gonna be used and most likely thrown out?........This is literally the saddest thing in the world :(

  • conserning food.

  • just stop eating fish.

  • stupid comment egodeosum. eliminating other species for the sake of own. The thing about animals, mammals alike is that they eat to live, survive. yet us, it seems that most people want to live to eat. But you wouldn't understand cause you're pathetic!!!!

  • matronox the thing is people have the nolege to get good food poot a steak by a bowl filed up with dog food give the dog both at the same time and see what he she goes after first. Ow and bears thay will cominley catch a fish eat onley the skin of the fish and digtard the rest but the fish skin has the most fat and bears like to eat fat to get ready to hibernate but im just saying animals are wasfull and thay also are pikey when given the chance and also animals are greedyer than humans when.

  • reducing shark numbers is seen as a symptom of overfishing, but here's an idea: encourage the hunting of sharks, killer whales and other top predators. by getting rid of the competition there's more of the commodity to go round and survive to reproduce.

We're consciously exterminated species before, I for one am glad there are no more wolves in western Europe.

  • What a stupid suggestion. You want to openly contribute to the extinction of another species, in this case top predators. What impact do you think this will have on the food chain?? Ridiculous.

  • we are now a top predator in that food chain , that mean the food chain is top heavy, removing other species at the top corrects this problem.

  • but because they are being killed in mass bumbers other fish that are kept in check by sharks and Orca are spawning out of control reaking havoc on the other fish in the sea. its like killing all the lions in africa so the water buffalo can eat all the grass and save none for the zebra, and gazelle. Its a balance that has to be maintained.

  • Don't get a seafood guide, get a vegetarian starter kit. Your little plan will never work. You have to stop eating fish, you stupid humans.

  • @peapod8 And just how much land, water, habitat distruction, wildlide displacement does your vegetarian habit use and interfere with. We humans may be stupid as you say, but we all have one thing in common. We need to farm to survive. Save the wild stocks and only source farmed fish in the stores and on the menu.

  • @Folkboat11 People are usually ill informed regarding the fishing industry. They do not know fisherman are required to harvest or kill bycatch, use mesh sizes at certain times detrimental to unwanted species or unallowed to use some sustainable methods. Foreign fishing fleets free of regulation are widespread, yet im the one facing new regulations on a weekly basis despite a discriminative harvest with population sustainment. Vegans should look towards the CA water crisis for farmland.

  • @strikenetter I agree with you. I am a salmon farmer I find "people are usually ill informed regarding the fishing industry". I work with many fisher-people that farm in the off season. I should not have said "Save the wild stocks and only source farmed fish in the stores and on the menu", but people have been ill informed that we are killing wild stocks by farming. Meanwhile Alaska can farm 1.5 billion salmon a year and market them as wild.

  • @Folkboat11 and tell us o wise one- where do you get the protein to bulk up a salmon or a cod in a cage?-enlighten us.....

  • @restlesswave The same place that 60% of the protein taken from the wild that is fed to cattle, pigs and poultry. Look at the fcr's of these animals compared to growing fish. Tell us o wiser one, shouldnt fish be eating fish and not land animals?

  • @Folkboat11 the protein comes rom industrial trawling-or things like blue whiting, pout, sandeels etc-as well as mature ish caught as a by catch-these provide protein or the wild stock-work it out-and by the way at times i have worked aboard industrial trawlers-it`s madness-but seems it`s ok to pursue it to rear shit in cages that are unnaturally grown, pumped to the gills with antibiotics, and colourants-instead o harvesting mature stock sustainably?

  • @restlesswave Its funny you do not have a problem with it being fed to land based animals. What is your point?

  • @Folkboat11 where did i state that i did not have a problem with it being fed to land based animals?-my point is you advocate fish farming as the way forward-that by virtue of the protein needed relies on unsustainable industrial fishing with an uncontrolable by-catch instead of harvesting mature fish from the wild in a sustainable way-fish farming is a conjob and a disaster ecologically to the immediate enviorement round the cages.

  • @Folkboat11 your logic is `save the wild fish for feeding farmed fish and let the consumer eat a force fed, artifically accelerated grown fish, pumped with antibiotics to keep them healthy and in the case of salmon fed with artificial colourants to get the required pink tint for it`s flesh that is naturally aquired in it`s feed from the wild-basically an inferior product.

  • @restlesswave Get with the times my friend. Look at how much the consumer eat a force fed, artifically accelerated grown land farmed animal, pumped with antibiotics to keep them healthy and fed with artificial colourants to get the required pink tint for it`s flesh that is naturally aquired in it`s feed from the wild-basically an inferior product. Shit do I sound like you? Lets talk Vegis next.

  • @Folkboat11 so the moral is when you have a choice you will eat shite every time, that by virtue of it`s existence is causing a problem ecologically by removing part of the wild fish`s food chain it takes 3kg of feed for 1 kg of growth-back to your original point- make a coherent arguement for eating farmed fish over sustainably caught wild fish-you have not made one logical point yet for the benefits of fish farming-only talking about everything else-stick to the subject at least.

  • @restlesswave You left out what "wild fish`s food chain it takes" it takes to grow beef, pork, and your cat fluffy, and the FCR's on those. Either you do not know the facts, or you are a Hypocrite. It's up to you to call it.

  • @Folkboat11 because i didn`t mention it neither makes me ignorant of the facts or a hypocrite-i don`t agree with the specifically targeting fish stocks for ANY industrial use. IN CASE YOU HAVE MISSED IT I WAS ONLY MAKING A POINT ABOUT YOUR BELIEF IN ONLY EATING FARMED FISH-ARE YOU CLEAR ON THIS NOW?

  • @restlesswave since you say you know the facts makes you a Hypocrite.

  • @Folkboat11 what`s your point ? your talking yourself round in circles-stick to the original issue -you are advocating unsustainable industrial fishing to support fish farming against sustainable fishing for wild stocks. by not mentioning the other uses of fish proteins does not make me a hypocrite-it just makes me focused on the relevant argument-wild versus farmed- NOW ANSWER THE QUESTION-IS FARMED (INDUSTRIAL) BETTER THAN SUSTAINABLY CAUGHT WILD?

  • @restlesswave Sustainable is just a buzz word used by drop out environmentalas#$# to promote fear mongering to the general public. They like to yell and bang the table like you do. We can only farm and wild fish in the least intrusive way, and work towards that goal each year. Neither wild fisheries nor Farmers need to listen nor fear table bangers. Both have been working hard to lessen our inpact and put back into the worlds resoucres. How do you feel about Alaska Farming 1.5 billion salmon?

  • @Folkboat11 "Save the wild stocks and only source farmed fish in the stores and on the menu"-you accuse me of table banging?-you come on an enviorementalists video, make a stupid statement like that, attacking the sector that provides your protein and you expect the commercial fishermen to say `yah we will just fish for protein leave the mature stock alone`-basically biting the proverbial hand that feeds you?-remember-i can do without fishfarms-can you live without fishermen?-i`ll answer that-no.

  • @restlesswave I said this as a joke. I am a salmon farmer being table banged by enviorementalists who are funded millions of US$ to push the public to wild salmon. Alaska wild salmon that is. Meanwhile Alaska farms 1.5 billion salmon a year to sustain their wild fishery. These salmon are raised in plastic trays, fed pellet feed, held in net pens for up to 12 months and released in to the wild, caught on their return and marketed as wild. We need both fisermen and farms to answer your no.

  • @Folkboat11 just in answer to your question about alaska`s farmed fish industry- i can`t comment-being half a world away i don`t know anything about the alaskan industry- but i would still assume it is on a bigger model than the european industry-only using different salmon stock which may have a different growth rate than european fish-apart from that i would imagine more similarities than differences?

  • @peapod8 I do agree with you on "Don't get a seafood guide". If its not caught or farmed by Americans you will find it on their do not eat part of the list. Pure propaganda at its best.

  • @peapod8 Yes, a vege starter kit, contributing to the CA water crisis killing smelt, a fish pronounced as a main food source for salmon and many mammals! Very smart.

  • @peapod8 we need stricter laws against netting fish like that in that large amount of quantities.

  • at 3:10, 3% under exploited most amazing stat, im doing a project on overfishing and i realize how dangerous it really is

  • Nothing because there is no god

  • What were the Gods thinking when they created MAN???

  • the turtle at 1:13 really caught my eye. good video this is why people should stop overfishing our oceans.

  • Comment removed

  • Great video .. Thank you !

  • we have to save our oceans. In school i am doing a project about the ocean and the environment!

  • yes, it is.

but I think our position is hopeless - what could we change? I dont really think we can change anything by buying less fish or smth..

  • every one talks about it but no one does anything... sad but true

  • wonderful vid... i'm writing a paper on overfishing for a biology class right now. what song do you have playing? very appropriate.....

  • i love the ocean, and it saddens me to see what we are doing to it. there are also bad effects to humans as well, by over fishing. the song is The Scientist by Coldplay.

  • @thebenjsc gday mate you would still have that overfishing assignment would you.

    thanks

  • you are right. We have to save the ocean. But how come

  • what do you mean by "how come"? If you are asking why, then there are a lot of reasons. But if you are asking how well then, a fish guide would be a starter (they tell which seafood is alright to eat and which should be avoided) and to throw away plastic. plastic ends up in the ocean, and harms many animals.

  • i release all the fish i catch

  • So why do you catch them? What is the sense? All the fish I caught I ate. And I only caught a few, but I honored the fish and I ate them.

  • really good video. i'm doing an essay on this.

  • the humans and its appetite for destruction, poor humans some we have to paid for all our errors..... so sad

  • this is sad poor turtles and dolphins stupid bitches who ever caught them!

  • Saddd. You used great pictures to express your point. I got tears in my eyes! I guess I heard about over fishing, but only once and I continued on in my life. Humans and animals... Cows, pigs, and chickens, and everything else we eat and forget like its nothing and just apart of our daily lives. Like its going to be there forever but its not and things are not going to keep being this way

  • good pictures, thx for posting.today it`s hip to eat fish because it`s healthier than meat but noone notices that he`s distroying the next ecosystem.
