  • Great song with a great message, lost today, sorry to say.

  • Joan seeing Joan with an electric guitar.

  • I bought both CD´s, but I just think Joan has more experience of the concept. Mary sings it beautifully; just younger.

  • THIS LOOKS LIKE DIRECTOR TIAGI LAMBERT'S WORK? IS IT?

  • id do her :P

  • A superb version by JB of MCC's song with very impressive guitar backing!

  • Absolute magic - thank you MCC for writing this magnificent song.

  • Me encanta ésta canción. Joan es y será por siempre la mejor.

  • Wow this is a brilliant version of this song!

  • Did Mary Chapin Carpenter write this song? Both versions are brilliant!

  • Yes, Mary Chapin Carpenter gave her this song. Awesome. I think Mary wanted to help spread the message.

  • haven't heard this song for 15 yrs at least - made me cry for humanity now just as it did then x

  • OMG!! i have been looking for this song for years. I bought this Joan Baez album when it came out in 1992, ans sadly lost it. This was my favourite song from that great album.

  • I've always loved what this song was about. Although, I'm a little upset that she removed the lyrics that said, "we kiss your ass, we make you hold, we doctor the receipt". Otherwise great song. Cheers for posting. ~ J.

  • I know this response it late, but... Joan did leave the original lyrics in her recording. Probably had to record another version that was "acceptable" for video. It was, after all, 1992! :P

  • @TheWarOnDebt Actually, this version includes "we doctor the receipt".

  • This video is so tired and UNBAEZ, but the recording is a masterpiece. The B&W close-ups of JB are fun but the spinning band shots are irritating beyond words.

  • @taddyd1 Great song, performed as only Joan Baez can. I heard her sing it with Mary Chapin Carpenter at the now-defunct Bottom Line in NYC.

  • " This is one good song, and one good video."

  • ROCKS,ROCKS,ROCKS....this version of mary chapin carpenter's ,just awesome. This must be Jerry Douglas on the lap steel...yea stunnin'man.....

  • Anyone have the song play me BACKWARDS the actual song? If so could u upload it for me? I would be so greatful... Itunes doesnt have it!

  • I love Joan Baez!

  • Yeah, I remember seeing it on VH-1 and the now defunct Nashville Network around the time it came out.

  • Great video, rare and beautiful. Nice to see Paul Pesco at her side!

  • Does anyone have The Dream Song? I'm pretty sure it's also on this album. I remember hearing it as a kid, but can't find it anywhere.

  • The Dream Song is on Joan's CD: "PLay Me Backwards."

  • If my memory doesn't fool me.

Mary wrote the song but released her own album years later from Joan Baez's.

  • Yes, that's correct. From what Baez said in an interview, MCC wrote it around 1992 or so, but had just put an album out ("Come On Come On"), so she wesn't going to record it for a while. Joan was in the process of recording her "Play Me Backwards" album, so MCC gave the song to her. MCC later made it the title song on her "Stones in the Road" album in 1994.

  • I've wanted to see this for several years. I knew there was a video out there of "Stones in the Road," but had never seen it until now. Thanks for posting it! She does this song well.

  • Great clip. One of Josn Baez' few music videos. Too bad she didn't utilize this medium mor than she did.

  • Well on of my favourite song performed by Joan Baez, thanx!
