  • Hi, well done on your cake decoration, i have Debbie Brown,s cake book i have made the Budgie Helicopter cake and that was awkward to make, but i dread making Thomas the Tank Engine.

  • @gazncl Thanks, yes Debbie's cakes can be quite time consuming!

  • OMG! That is such a good Thomas cake!

Would you mind scanning the Debbie Brown's Recipe for me? I can't find it in Hong Kong, my son's 4th birthday is next month and I'd love to make him a Thomas cake.

  • u still done it really well even making it out of a square cake can't tell my nephew would love this cake

  • hi i love this cake and would love to attempt, i wanted to know if you freeze the cake and then thaw it out would it be very moist.

  • @rareyellowdiamond Hi there. I don't think freezing cakes in general then thawing them makes them any more moist than they would be otherwise. I think that if they are kept too long in the freezer or not wrapped properly, then they could actually dry out. (Don't quote me on this, I'm no expert!) If you are asking about freezing this actual finished cake, the fondant would go tacky and sticky on thawing. This type of fondant doesn't freeze or go in the fridge either.

  • This is soooo Awesome!! my 3yo would go nuts!! Great Job and thanks for the inspiration for next year bday!!

  • @amandathacker Thanks for the comment!

  • i love you

  • this is amazing. im just wondering did u go to school for pastry? because im going soon..but im technically teaching myself right now. =] and im so excited to make my first sculpted cake. do you have any pointers for me??

  • @baddevil1101 Thanks, no I didn't go to pastry school. I learnt almost everything from books and YouTube. For sculpting, use a cold cake that's been frozen and thawed - reduces crumbs. Use a sharp serrated knife and cut small amounts at a time. If you cut too much off, use your icing to stick it back on! Good luck and have fun at pastry school!

  • hi there!how did u do the blue body of the train?did u lay over the blue fondant over the cake individually before joining them together or join the parts first to get the train's body then lay over the fondant?

  • Super cuteee!

    check out my cakes :)

  • gorgouse cake, i'm thinking of make one for my 5 years old to, big fan of Thomas lols...just wondering how do you make the grass on the cake board if you dont mind ? thanks

  • gorgouse cake, i'm thinking of make one for my 5 years old to, big fan of Thomas lols...just wondering how do you make the grass on the cake board if you dont mind ? thanks

  • I don't mind at all :) - I stuck pieces of green fondant on the board with a little water and used a star tip piping tube to make indentations in the fondant. just keep going until the board is covered. Good luck with your cake!

  • @15152278 thanks i'll try that with my boy's cake even tho his birthday is still 2 months away :p

  • Excellent job! I'm going to try this cake for my nephew for his birthday in April. I'm doing my research early! Congratulations I love the grass and tracks!

  • This is beautiful. U really had to had a lot of patients to do this. I know this took hours! It's great though...

  • Thanks! It did take ages, but it was fun to make and the kids all loved it!

  • Your cake looks marvelous. I was wondering if you can give me instruction or if you had Debbie Brown's instruction on how to make this cake. My baby is turning two in Sept and I would like to make him this cake since he absolutely loves THOMAS...He would be so happy. Any help is much appreciated.

    Kindest Regards,

    Glenda

  • Hi Glenda. I borrowed Debbie Brown's book from a library, so I don't own a copy. You're best getting a hold of the book (Favourite Character cakes) - try the internet. It is quite a complicated cake (I wouldn't know where to start in giving you instructions), so you really need the instructions in front of you (and plenty of time as well). Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck!

  • Thank you;) I found her website and her books!!! She does some cool cakes! Now I know what everyone is raving about!

    Thanks:)

    BOP

  • Such great work! I love it:) You said you found the book at the library? Do you know how many books she made?

I thought I would check my library.

    Thank you:)

    BOP

  • Thanks! If you google Debbie Brown, you will find her website which lists all her books, and they all look fabulous!

  • you did a great job! I love debbie brown

  • Thanks - I do too!

  • awsome cake my auntie made that cake for my 8th birthday =)

  • Thanks. My boys are Thomas fans too :)

  • This is really wonderful! You did a great job! I just found this book on the internet, used (since its out of print), to make this cake for my sons 3rd birthday party! I've never worked with fondant before, so I am nervous!

  • Thank you. It does take a while to make, so make sure you have plenty of time. Good luck and I hope to see it on you tube! If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

  • You learned this skill from the Debbie Brown book? Your work is quite impressive.

  • Thanks. Debbie Brown's books are fantastic - step by step instructions with photos. Anyone can learn from them. But this cake does take a lot of patience!

  • I want to do one of these for my sons birthday but i dont think it will come out nearly as good as yours, nice job!

  • Thank you! But have some faith in yourself - let me know how you go with yours:)

  • Awesome cake....fantastic!

  • Amazing cake! You did a wonderful job!

  • Wow! beautiful job!

  • Thanks:)

  • Looks great. Good job! :)

  • Excellent! Great attention to detail and I have to say-- the way you worked through the edges --is brilliant!

    Keep making more!

  • Thanks:) I don't think I'll be doing him again though - too much detail!

  • It looks really neat. I give you tons of points with laying the fondant, with all those edges, it seems really hard to put fondant on perfectly without visible seams. I love how you made it look clean and how you made every detail look so perfect. Job well done!

  • Thanks:) The more you work with fondant, the more comfortable you get, but I still find myself struggling sometimes, especially with larger cakes!
