As far as the into goes, yes they are both similar, but also very different. They are played on the upper register of a piano and contain some of the same notes in a relatively simple arrangement, but are completely different otherwise. I've heard many songs which share similar sounding intros

And as far as being similar to the Jim Croce song, it's common for songs to share titles and the idea behind this song is a very emotional, yet widely experienced one. Both songs came from the heart
