  • u think about golf to much everyone thinks to much!!

  • Umm...I don't think this is Ben Hogan...what do others think?

  • Hey buddy ...nice video....

    Graham

  • Hogan was a groundbreaker in terms of the "modern" swing. But I really believe he was also reacting to changes in the game at that time, including equipment advances, courses, and even clothing, that allowed for innovation. In the early 90's there was a leap in equipment technology that saw similar changes in the swing for the up-comers, and we see the same today with the likes of Rory and Bubba. The best athletes will find the best swing for the environment they operate within...

  • Can we please dispense with the 'Ben Hogan is God' rhetoric? Hogan developed his grip, stance, posture, alignment, ball position, cupped left wrist at the top, aggressive hip turn in the downswing (he said he just turned his left hip, even though he had an aggressive lateral move), the bowed left wrist at impact, and the wicked extension in the follow through to finish because he had to get rid of the HOOKS. Then when he found the solution, he worked his butt off to perfect it. Nothing more.

  • looks like a fagots swing not hogans

  • pretty spot on mate, nice job mind giving mine a few pointers please? :)

  • You have a nice swing, but it´s nothing like Hogan´s. Your swing seems very manufactured.

  • your an idiot

  • @bigboycat1 maybe he can teach you english

  • Nice swing

  • ur postures too rigid its looks the same as every other deadshit on tour at the moment

you will never have flow like hogan with a set up like that i blame tigerwoods it works for him cause his body is a machine u dont have to be huge to compete

  • Good job... enjoyed your video.

    Greg Patmore

    PGA Pro.

  • YOu people are ridiculous criticizing this. There are some similarities. It's a great golf swing and note that he is "comparing" with Hogan. I didn't see anywhere where he said it was identical.

  • It says a great deal about your ego, likening yourself to a true icon and legend of the game. Good swing, but a long, long LONG way from being anything like Ben Hogan.

If you want to emulate Hogan, try displaying some of the humility he was so famous for.

Rule of thumb is; if you have to tell everyone how good you are...you're probably not that good.

  • great video buddy

  • cool clip!

  • How about an update on how your swing has worked in competition and how you have changed/modified it over time? It's only when you compete that you figure out what works and what doesn't for You. Certainly a great swing to use as a model, but you would get no extra points for duplicating it. Trophies and checks are the evidence.

  • Ricky Fowler is the only player I have seen that swings close to Hogan. You just have a nice modern day swing. I wouldnt worry so much about comparing swings as I would feeling the game and making your swing your own. You want to have the mind set that you want people comparing there swings to you one day. Those are the players who make it. You have a good swing but your type swing is a dime a dozen now days. Its the people with the mental game that rise to the top!

  • @sbp0317

Fowler swings nothing like Hogan. Fowler swings flat, that´s about the only similarity he has with Hogan.

  • From a down-the-line view, lay a ruler on the shaft of Hogan club when its halfway back (0:41 here)... it will ALWAYS pass directly through the ball. Same thing halfway down (see 1:06). Consistently perfect.

  • Nice swing

  • Dude it's a good swing, but not quite as athletic as Hogan. Still, the positions are very nice and you probably hit the ball very well with that swing.

  • What you and hogan have in common is that you understand that the plane line needs to be shifted to the left when you have a downward attack angle i.e. the ripping left part you referred to. This is the only meaningful aspect of Hogan's swing that I think is worth copying. You look to be a good deal bigger than the Mighty Atom (or was that Toski?) Greeeat golf swing!

  • People are cruel...you got great action and I hope you can putt as well as you swing!!!

  • get out of here, stop comparing yourself to a legend

  • very nice action....what are you doing now?

  • you look more like annaka sorenstein than Ben Hogan. Hogan had a more compact aggressive structured swing. You have a well........Hogan like swing,,,,, Maybe try tennis.......

  • Really clever video. Good job!!!

  • check out sevam1 videos....maybe you'll learn something about posture

  • @MegaGolfer14 Absolutely, he is doing what Mike told us NOT to do!

  • Comment removed

  • Great vid. Thanks for sharing. You have done a great job studying Hogan.

  • bitter haters! Its a nice video, show me where he said he was a as good as hogan. Geeez i guess somoene cant dare to compare their swing swith Hogans!

  • Why don't people just view this as a wonderful piece of video with swings of Mr. Hogan most have never seen, as well as a wonderful golf swing by a nice young man?

At no point does he claim his swing is the same as Mr. Hogan's or better! He made a video comparing his swing to that of his idol's. Some of you need to get a grip!

  • I agree this was very well done and I appreciated the Hogan swings as well.

  • im not one to just throw out compliments, but thats a really nice swing dude!!!!

  • better yet, type: 'ben hogan houston' in the search, and you'll see him surpass you at full speed in his mid 50's.

  • nowhere near as dynamic as hogan. pictures do no justice. watch hogan's swing in his 30s here on youtube. type in hogan's mystique.

  • What a super duper video because of this my daughter will go on to become one of the best female golfers the world has ever seen.. Thank you so much....

  • Very good video

  • Very nice video. You have a very nice swing and it clearly has some similarities to Hogan.

  • thanks for the comment mate, but no I didn't mean he wont the Grand Slam in the same calander year, I said he won every Majot Championship he entered in the same year, that was 1953. He didnt play in the 53 PGA Championship as it clashed with the Open Championship, he sailed over to the Britain and back which meant he missed the 53 PGA. So he entered 3 Majors that year and won them all.

  • what an ego comparing yourself to Mr Hogan !! enough said................

  • how many majors you won?

  • the only thing you have in common with Mr. Hogan is that you're both males. Stops after that

  • This is very true. You honestly can't expect to put a video like this up and everyone is like "oh my god, you're the next Ben Hogan" lol

  • and even thats in question

  • "Comparison with Ben Hogan". Hmmm okay, Wiliam Ben Hogan 9 Mayor Championships, 64 PGA Tour wins, Winner of every Major championship he entered in the same calander year V's some guy on a range who has a swing that bears some loose similarities to Mr Hogans. Clearly you had a different goal in your practice to Mr Hogan. You want to have a swing like Mr Hogan, He wanted to position the ball around a golf course under the most extreme pressure. Sorry my friend, there is no comparison.

  • Shutup you hater. Your swing isn't half as good as his so you can't talk.

  • takeaway initiated by shoulders? didn't hogan say in 5 lessons he started w/the hands..great swing anyway you start it.

  • cool video, good swing, but we all know what a fraction off means in golf. but if your gonna mimic a golfer then you chose the correct one.

  • Power Golf Hogan

  • Nice swing, but hogan held on to his lag a little longer.. He said that his takeaway was initiated by his right hand.

  • u may have a similar swing to him.. but u are no hogan my friend.. him and moe norman were the best ball strikers who EVER lived

  • What a great video! Did you put it together? If so, nice job!

  • This video is fantastic! It shows how a perfect swing looks like. Every serious golfer should watch this video. To study a true genious like Ben Hogan in slowmotion like is the ideal way of learning. And you have made great analysis of it.

Thanks for this video! i have learned a lot.

  • that was awsome

  • Comparison with Hogan? in what way?

I think yur heid is fula mince mate.

  • Good post. You can see the work you put into that well done

  • BEAUTIFUL!!! i have never ever seen a swing being that similiar to Hogan.

    Please comment my swing everyone!

  • great swing

  • Nice. Good job

  • Great video! Your swing looks great!

  • Come and play with me. 100€ per hole?

  • very nice, its not about perfection, the intent is there. let me say with all the instruction and new wave swing's out there I have always come back to Bens swing, with all respect at least my attempt, its timeless..

  • Fantastic video, beautiful swing, you're an example for all amateurs golfers like me, if you come in Italy...

  • I think most golf instructional is poorly taught. It makes a player worst off than he was because now you got somebody worrying about mechanics and small technical details rather than trying to harness his golf chi. I approach the game as a feel game, not mechanical. Try to imagine a smooth natural swing and a purely struck golf shot. Try to achieve a confident rhythm and soft hands. One player I love to watch (besides Hogan) is John Daly. He displays what I like to call a "natural Swing".

  • The golf swing is all about your knees. I have been studying the swing for years and one conclusion that I came up with is that your arms, hips, head, torso, do the talking. But your knees do the walking. All tour pros swings are different. But their knee action is exactly the same. You generate all your ball striking ability from cocking your left knee and snaping down on the ball. I emphasize knee work in all my teachings and I see peoples game take off dramatically. Look at Hogan's knees.

  • You are a teacher? I want to teach golf someday.

  • Not bad, but nowhere near as much lag as Ben Hogan had

  • great job with the pictures at :03 and :06

does anyone know where these were shot?

  • Fantastic swing, great strike, similar loking to Ben hogans swing. Could you have a look at my swing please, any tips would be great.

  • nice video! nice swing! don't listen to the negative comments on this board.

  • sorry, very good, I can't spell

  • very bood

  • A person can dress like Hogan say he swings like Hogan, But if you ARE NOT SET-UP like HOGAN its not even close.Your spine is to straight up and down at setup causing your eyeline to be a mile outside the ball. Not good...........

  • I could take my shot in basketball and compare it to Michael Jordan and it's every bit as good if not better...but I couldn't hold his jock strap. That's great that you have a good swing but comparing yours to somebody like Ben Hogan is a bit ridiculous.

  • heh thats heaps awesome how u matched up ur two swings at the same time pretty close

  • youve put a fair bit of work into ur swing have u?

  • good swing, but you have nowhere near enough lag as hogan did.

  • you have an awesome swing

    come check mine out

  • what a great swing! I wish I had your talent to long game, that is not only copying. Most would try to copy and get a crap. Try to copy a Picasso if you can hahaha. Keep working on it.

  • u have an awsome swing

  • nice swing but try standing up a little bit higher your back is straight but you will get better leverage. but overall a very fine swing

  • you have a very good golf swing, regardless of what these idiots have to say. Ben's fundementals were sound though not flawless, its a great swing to emulate. Keep it up, but make sure to work on your own golf swing now, its good to copy someone to a point but you have to learn how to play the game as well.

  • Are you sure that's hogan it looks like Sam Snead

  • didnt say this swing wasnt any good...its unbelievable! Just dont compare it to Hogan! Everyone trys...but it will never be duplicated. Never! Everyone looks at asthetics and never function. The facts are simple...not the same swing path as Hogan. Period. Like the video states, there are major differances all related to the posture. So again, why try to copy a swing and ignore (like everybody loves to do) FUNDAMENTALS!!!!

  • you should try swinging like Moe Norman if you want to hit it better. Then try talking like him. THen save some money on laundry, don't wash your clothes or brush your teeth. That way you'll get inside his head. Good way to hit it as good as Hogan.

  • Wow, I really need to respond. I am a huge Hogag fan since I started playing 30 years ago. The way people want to critique a swing amazes me. Palmer, Nicklaus, Casper, Nelson, Player, all would have been told to change things by the current guru teachers. These guys make up 40 + majors. Tommy Bolt said "I would not want to learn from someone that hasn't wond anything". Your swing is fantastic!!! Forget the "fine detail" guys, "those who can't, teach".

  • dude your swing is sweet - don't listen to the haters - i don't see any of them posting their action...

  • Not even close BTW the left wrist cocks it does not hinge

  • Funny how much thought you put into the swing...and NOT the posture!!! Hogan's swing path was alot more angular than yours due to the poor "S" posture. This curves your spine (from down the line) not allowing your middle to wind like Hogan's, or maintain your center of gravity. As a result...your swing path is more linear. Great way to tease the un-trained eye!

  • I had never seen the footage of him hitting a wood at the ground level camera. Pretty cool.

  • Great job. Keep up the good work.

  • I think that too many people here have forgotten what made his ball striking so machine-like= practice. That swing came from hitting balls and experimentation, not looking at someone else's swing and copying it move for move. If that were the case, why not swing like woods, since he is the best ever?

On a different note, watching this guy match hogan move for move is very pretty to watch

  • but if you want to talk golf swings, you have too much tension on the backswing, hands and hips. you are manipulating the club through impact with excess hand, arm tension. the legs/core are the "power" of the swing. balance, feel, rythm. no mechanics, or positions.

  • I think that to characterize the amount of tension here as "too much" is a matter of subjectivity. Does he swing like Sam Snead or Phil Mickelson? No, but the action seen here works for Frank Lickliter and Zach Johnson, among others. Don't confuse tension with greater than average clubhead control.

  • golf is not a swing. you will never reach your full potential from copying someone else. Every human body and mind has differences. you dont think like hogan, why not find a swing of your own that will hold up under pressure. youd be better off learning from someone like raymond floyd. There are plenty of pretty boys who can hit range, but only a few can take it to the hole. also, short game

  • Study the left arm and right wrist at impact practicing slow motion. Figure out how to hit hard with the right hand with out any hook. Emulate impact position as well as you can, and learn to move left hand and arm clockwise and up while right hand hits. You should be able to make the exact same move using either hand. To correct club path, raise left arm. To allow right hand to hit without hook, rotate left arm and hand. try keeping left arm hand one piece into impact. takes time 2 learn :)

  • Good luck with your future, but remember there are no pictures on the score cards, can you go as low as Ben Hogan. The practise ranges minitours amateur ranks are full of "theywouldbeiftheycouldbes" - I would focus more on what Ben thought than what he looked like. Have a look at the tour even now, each swing is not all perfect and all different, "swing personalities" but at impact they are all square and 100 yards in 2shots 9/10 times...that is what you should concentrate on..

  • You've got a great swing. It would be nice to see this footage of Ben Hogan from beginning to end, uninterrupted. Hope you will consider making a separate posting.

    Golfingly yours...

  • please tell me what music this is! thanks!

  • Try this and you will see that it really works, and your contact will be much crisper (remember that Hogan said he wished he had 2 right hands) Concentrating on the right hand's control of club going back and down is what makes the ball striking great, you must also, during set up, point right knee in doesn't matter how much just do so, this will stabilize you from moving your head, and remember to set club by aiming butt at the ball and along target line back and through.....it really works!!

  • I found out what "the secret" is this year. Ben and Byron used their right hand, like Ken Venturi taught, to control the club. Bringing it back they aimed the butt at the target line and then continued to aim it at that line during the downswing using right hand, the right knee was used to determine the speed you wanted, and weight was on the heels, if you aim the butt at the ball target line during downswing then you maintain the wrist cock and lag then the right hand can deliver the power

  • You realy did a great job copying bens swing If i could swing like ben my teacher would be proud she wants me to like ben good job!!!!

  • hogan had the strongest hands and wrists ive evr seen...........he hit the ball so late,,,,,,,,,his hands were so far in front,at the start of the down swing,,,,,,its a wonder the club caught up,,,,,,,,there will never be a person with a swing like hogan.......he owned his swing,,,,,,,,as woods said of him............

  • i agree with whats being said, it is a very very good golf swing, but i dont think its that similar to hogans. however, i am not a big fan of trying to copying swings anyway, so just keep going at it, b/c you certainly have talent

  • Not sure what the point is. Sure, there are observable differences in positions, but that's never been how golf is learned or played, and many of the principles Hogan had are obvious in this swing too. This is one damn nice golf swing--at certain places, looks almost identical to Faldo.

  • I mean, I hope you understand what I'm saying. Don't worry so much about the superficial; differences in build, relative strength of body parts, etc., account for a lot of this.

  • If anything, I'd say you need to take some of the tension out of your address; IMHO, it carries over somewhat into your release and inhibits it a bit, a common thing with position-oriented golfers. You want Hogan as a model, look at his motion, not positions.

  • nice swing, but it doesnt really compare with mr. Hogan. His posture and downswing are much different from yours. Also you dont get as much lag as Mr. Hogan, but almost no one does.

  • If you like hogna then you will also like mac ogrady go to historicgolfphotos and check mac out!

    Great swing good luck

  • why try and copy someone?whats the damn point?

    u failed completely,too.

1,your legs are much more bent then his,his posture is more natural.

but the main thing is the move thru the ball ,his style was lead with left side and supinate thru the ball,u rotate much much earlier then he ever did,its completely different.

  • You need to keep your pressure points down more in the finish, practice with 2 pencils under your arms and dont let them drop.

  • very good

  • u got somreal potential

  • Excellent video...your swing looks exactly like Ben's. He would be proud.

  • Nice swing. To me though...too much video editing. Raw clips would be much easier to view and compare. Or side-by-side clips.

  • u r swingging whit ur hands u should swing with ur body and that is not even close to Hogan...

at startting position ur back is totally wrong position... I IDIOT U CANT EVER HIT THE BALL LIKE HOGAN!

  • Good modern swing, well balanced. Now stop looking at yourself and go at the practice green and start chipping and putting if you want to make it to the top ,kid LOL. Jokes apart you have a real solid swing.Good luck

  • i like your style!

  • Wonderful footage of both swings. What are your key moves and feels?

  • This is great. You are great. You are trying to immolate the PERFECT golf swing, and doing a great job at it. You have a really great swing, keep on working towards swinging like Ben, that is the greatest. I wish I saw more people trying to swing like Ben than Tiger, but you know how it is.

  • You are the man....that is the best Hogan golf swing I have ever seen...I will be honesty I am really jealous...how far do you hit the driver and what are your stats? That flippin footage of Hogan is sick too....

  • I've never seen that Hogan video, where did you find that?

  • I made it from some photos of Hogan. I am the other person swinging

  • watch more footage of Hogan you will see he uses his lower body more and releases his right hand down more ( have a close look at his left arm at impact the lower part in relation to his spine angle )

  • Thanks for posting this!
