There is nothing in UK law that states you have to get into a Police Officers car for a routine document check .He should have stayed in his car or near his car and handed his documents over. The Police Officer was clever in what he did by saying have to search you before you get into my car.

That arrest would of NEVER have been handled that way by American cops. That dude would have gotten a baton beat down. That is the most polite cop I have ever seen make an arrest.
