Additionally, people are dying from fossil fuel emissions. An estimated 13000 people die every year in the United States alone from these emissions. 6% of Americans live in areas below federal air quality standards, and fossil fuels cost America about $120 Billion a year. If we change to renewable energy, we would save money, better the health of people around the world, all the while protecting our environment.

What Senator Hutchison proposes is a slow, weak change in the face of this small window. This should be seen as untenable in the eyes of both republicans and democrats. Absolutely producing more domestic oil will bring prices down. It is simple common sense. We had a very healthy domestic oil program when Reagan and Bush Sr were in. The first act of Obama was to stop work on the pipeline and halted the Arctic program. Obama issues leases of land but No permits to drill. And without drilling our own oil, we can hardly think of stopping the importation of foreign oil. The only common sense thing to do is starting issuing drilling permits as fast as we can.
Domestic production can't fill demand. Fracking, Offshore Drilling, and Tar Sands extraction are limited sources that destroy livelihoods and the environment. As a nation, we must prudently decrease our energy consumption, and financial incentives should go away from oil and natural gas to public transportation and small business. Hutchison's audacity to deliver this message in front of an SUV demonstrates the utter lack of pragmatism and good sense amongst the supporters of big oil.

The idea that fossil fuels are the "Bread and Butter" of our energy sources still today shows we have a problem. We have all types of power. There are cars that run completely on used vegetable oil. There are cars that run only off of compressed air. There are all electric cars that can get about 230 miles off a charge. Greenland is already building the first hydrogen highway. They have developed solar charged electrolysis stations that can, with no energy cost, extract hydrogen from tap water.

The rust belt is being reinvigorated through the manufacturing of wind turbines, and Texas already has 9% of its electrical grid powered by wind. Fossil fuels damage our environment and our health. The Himalayan glacier does not disappear during the summer months because it feeds the Ganges River. @nintendude60 absorb only 50% of the CO2 emitted into the atmosphere (NOAA). The oceans absorb CO2 chemically and through phytoplankton (so phytoplankton absorb less than 50% of CO2 emissions). That is why scientists are doubly worried about deforestation, because the dead trees emit CO2 and the logging eliminates the region as a carbon sink. Please use information from legitimate sources, or least cite, if want to have a credible argument.

Additionally, people are dying from fossil fuel emissions. An estimated 13000 people die every year in the United States alone from these emissions. 6% of Americans live in areas below federal air quality standards, and fossil fuels cost America about $120 Billion a year. If we change to renewable energy, we would save money, better the health of people around the world, all the while protecting our environment.

Those 13000 are from people inhaling it directly from the tail pipe. Absolutely producing more domestic oil will bring prices down. It is simple common sense. We had a very healthy domestic oil program when Reagan and Bush Sr were in. The first act of Obama was to stop work on the pipeline and halted the Arctic program. Obama issues leases of land but No permits to drill. And without drilling our own oil, we can hardly think of stopping the importation of foreign oil. The only common sense thing to do is starting issuing drilling permits as fast as we can.

The idea that fossil fuels are the "Bread and Butter" of our energy sources still today shows we have a problem. We have all types of power. There are cars that run completely on used vegetable oil. There are cars that run only off of compressed air. There are all electric cars that can get about 230 miles off a charge. Greenland is already building the first hydrogen highway. They have developed solar charged electrolysis stations that can, with no energy cost, extract hydrogen from tap water.

Even if we do drill up more oil here, it won't be OUR oil anyway. It all goes to the oil cartel OPEC, who sell it back to us. There is no supply shortage; high gas prices are due to Wall St speculators and Koch Industries keeping oil refinement at a bare minimum to increase their profit. And natural gas? The rust belt is being reinvigorated through the manufacturing of wind turbines, and Texas already has 9% of its electrical grid powered by wind. Fossil fuels damage our environment and our health. Coal, oil and gas companies are responsible for $120 Billion in health care costs through air pollution and deplete our natural resources. Changing to renewables would help us out of debt, not worsen it.

@nintendude60 Sorry but you are incorrect. Fossil fuels in the United States alone costs about $120 B in health care annually. The BP oil spill and the Exxon Valdez have claimed human lives and destroyed the environment. Green energy has and will save money to the United States and will lead to our energy independence.

@TheConormac1 The BP oil spill was an accident. The rig had just been approved by Obama, and he proclaimed it to be one of the greenest drills out there. Greeny energy regulation is destroying companies. requiring them to do things out of the way, causing them to buy un neccasary things. and the U.S. has spent billions if not trillions on this Global Warming Hoax. It has in no way saved America anything. And we have energy independence. Its called drilling our own oil.

@nintendude60 I do not believe that the pictures of melted glaciers are photo-shopped, or that the videos showing a measured decline in glaciers are made up. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. When we pumps billions of tons of it into the atmosphere the temperature rises. Obama approved offshore drilling, but not the construction of a rig that was built in a negligent way to save cash. That rig, which mines oil (a fossil fuel) exploded, killing workers and ruining parts of the gulf.

The temperature is not rising because of this. its been proven it isnt. 30,000 scientists are suing every scientist for saying that man made global warming is true. Look up "Himalayan glacier climate change" and you will find that the glaciers are melting meters during the summer time versus past summers. The Himalayan glacier does not disappear during the summer months because it feeds the Ganges River. Glaciers do not normally disappear in the summer, the images found online show how the glaciers have receded over a short period of time...

The Florida Keys and Cozumel reefs are examples of human made degradation. The statistic of 90% of big fish comes from National Geographic, CNN and PBS. Most of the ocean are well understood up to the continental break, where most of the offshore fisheries exist. @nintendude60 absorb only 50% of the CO2 emitted into the atmosphere (NOAA). The oceans absorb CO2 chemically and through phytoplankton (so phytoplankton absorb less than 50% of CO2 emissions). That is why scientists are doubly worried about deforestation, because the dead trees emit CO2 and the logging eliminates the region as a carbon sink. Please use information from legitimate sources, or least cite, if want to have a credible argument.
