My guess is that you need to have a longer axe, and when you are in the position to chop the wood. You put the axe behind you and do a 180 degree sweep from the back of your foot and if you aim correctly, should put all that momentum and aim for the log below the one your aiming for.
Looking at your stance, you look skiddish of doing it and your more likely to hurt yourself if that axe rebounds back at you.
Thats my take on it (Taking experience from doing other things that require technique.)
PS. raise your arms higher to get more power. It will make a BIG difference. however you will have to condition your arms for that. It will make a 5 minuet job into a 1 minute job.
@gubevares it was a joke because some guys consider a dick "wood" and well since this was a wood video i thought what the hay after seeing a Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time joke.
@gubevares Wish I haz a cat that cute but mine is just an ordinary house cat who hides under the sofa =( but she's always interested in watching tv for some reason =O
@asutuh oh, hides under the sofa? my cat is always on a pillow on my sofa.. but he is hiding if there is something that makes a lot of sound or someone yells. Maybe your cat need more relaxed atmosphere? hehe, there is some cats who are very interested in watching tv..for some reasons :O he he he
An "axe" is a cutting tool. For stuff like limbing or splitting kindling. Sharp, hardened edge.
A maul is a wood-splitting tool. "Chubbier" cheeks, sharpness optional. Mild steel.
This is not an academic distinction- an axe can pop through end fibers and proceed directly to your shin. Short handle and sharp edge are dangerous here.
The couple of extra pounds of a 6 lb. maul make it much more effective for splitting wood, but still controllable.
..Hey we used to de that when we were kids..Wood burning stoves ,except we were not jmping around, a chore that had to be done ..But was alot of fun splitting wood..what a surprise when we saw wood splitters.
I have that same axe and i will say it is superb, very sharp axe, lightweight and well balanced. But it is a bit small, i would think having a splitter axe would make things easier for the guy in the video.
I've never seen that flip over and hit on backside of axe, but seems to be doing the trick.
yes, but this spruce was very dry at the edges and rotten in the middle as you can see if you look close. If you firewood is not dry it is harder to split.

T3hJones 1 year ago 13
@T3hJones If you have a 3 pound Axe and a 10 pound piece of wood. When you flip the axe over..you basically have a 13 pound maul..So Haaa
You obviously haven't tried this

I thought spruce would be easier to split. I´m splitting my firewood almost the same way, btw.
@glassman18352
sometimes it´s the fastest way to get your log split to turn the axe on its head.
HomoGnosticus 2 years ago
yes, but this spruce was very dry at the edges and rotten in the middle as you can see if you look close. If you firewood is not dry it is harder to split.

OMG, you cannot chop wood! Take $20 and go buy an axe and get rid of that toy hatchet...LOL.
cresidue 2 years ago
I've never seen anyone turn the axe on its head to split the log on the second swing. Interesting. What kind of wood is that?
glassman18352 2 years ago
It is norwegian spruce. That spruce its a little bit old and rotten in the middle. But i am always chopping my firewood like that.
gubevares 2 years ago
@glassman18352 I live in Norway, and I use that technique all the time. It's pretty good.

good norwegian boy chopping his firewood before the cold winter in europe :)
GlassesOfHeaven 2 years ago
I would buy a heavier axe maul. It looks like your axe is too small for the size of the logs - would be better for just cutting kindling.
ivankinsman 2 years ago
cant tell for sure, but it also looks like a chopper and not a splitting axe
KimberTactical45 2 years ago
chopping with an axe is fun. why would u even consider new tools lol
