A great song, and a fitting tribute to the badly mistreated Irish (and other Catholic) soldiers who deserted from the U.S. Army during the Mexican War, choosing to fight for Mexico under the green flag of St. Patrick. They were called the "San Patricio Battallion." Dozens were captured, and hanged. Several were bound overlooking the battle of Chapultepec, and when the U.S. victory flag rose above the castle walls, General Harney hanged them all. Not the U.S. Army's proudest moment.
The title is "The Men that God Made Mad"; original recording available in the album "The Old Simplicity" (Green Linnet, 2006). The composer is Ron Kavanagh, an Irish singer, guitarist and composer.
We're thrilled to hear that you will be at the Dublin Irish Festival. Will definitely see your performance on Saturday. Of all the Irish singers, you're Janice's favorite. She's worn out several of your CD's.
Beautiful! Just happened upon this while looking for "The Water is Wide."

We saw Niamh at the Dublin, Ohio Irish Festival in 2007...She has the voice of an angel. Thanks for posting...I hope you have more video of her.

Thanks very much - you're just going to have to get the video out for me in August when we're back in Ohio! See you there - Niamh

I heard her there this afternoon - still has the same voice, and a sweet and funny disposition...
First time I heard her at Dublin, it was in the high 90's, and very humid. Poor Irish - never had a chance...
