The caste system is tragic, but its influence has been rapidly decreasing in recent years. Since India gained independence, *all* citizens are gauranteed equality before the law, basic civil rights, the right to vote, etc- regardless of caste. caste is no longer a legal status

Sure, I can understand giving the prisoners jobs in acceptable conditions, but I remember reading an article about this a couple years ago where a man discussed how all of the prisoners were stripped and made to work naked, even in front of people of the opposite sex, and they had no bathrooms and they were all covered with scabs, rashes, and burns from their treatment there. Well, they were made to work, naked, bleeding, making clothes...
