yeah, its like the plasma lamp things. i think theyre filled with a nitrogen sotra compound. thats why they are the color they are when the electrons are excited...

It certainly is. Its emission spectrum matches that of nitrogen.
I must admit I was surprised when I learnt the nitrogen emission was pink. I use to think it was yellowish.
