I find it funny when people hate on christian lyrics from a band in which they all dig when it is about any other subject. Try not to be so closed minded, this song is probably extremely important to him.
Was that Further seems forever band popular. I mean in like christian music. I wish all their songs were christian. They would easily be the best Christian band out there in my opinion. They're still awesome though. :)
it's about him wanting to find faith although he questions it constantly, because he kinda says many things like that... in the song. but i guess people don't listen to that. by the way, Tuuttuut2 if you still check this, that comment made me laugh my ass off :D baiting religious youtube trolls for the win!
Can someone more familiar with Dashboard tell me is he Christian..or is this song about wanting to believe but can't..or am I missing the meaning all together?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm not sure if he's Christian or something, but I do know he's spiritual, in some sense. But I don't believe this song is about god. I think all the poor Christians just have to make every song about their silly little faith.
@Tuuttuut2 Chris Carrabba, who leads Dashboard Confessional, says he's a Christian, and he used to be in a Christian band called Further Seems Forever.
Wow, lol. I'm not about to get into a religious debate here, but I dont see a need to belittle the people of the Christian faith like you did with this comment. The lyrics have Jesus in it more than once. If his beliefs (or inspiration for this song atleast) were anything but Christian, there'd be absolutely no reason to say Jesus.
@Tuuttuut2 I'm not christian, but I think this song is pretty straightforward in meaning. Like seriously, the lyrics of the chorus are singing _directly_ to _Jesus_ ... That kinda shit's hard to miss...
@Tuuttuut2 At the same time somethings are about faith, does that make it a secret meaning or looking for something for more if indeed it is at face value about Faith?
@murtagh451 Actually, the problem with your statement is that he IS Christian. Or was. He used to have a Christian band. The fact of that doesn't somehow shove itself in your face. Whatever faith artists are, they're allowed to express that in their music, just like atheists are. And honestly, this song is pretty straight forward in what it means. It's not some secret meaning. Anyone who knows the Christian faith will get it easily, and that's fine. It's also fine if it means nothing to you.
@Tuuttuut2 I believe you not only do DC a disservice but yourself as well.
Calling another persons heartfelt beliefs 'silly' instantly identifies you as an egotistical megalomanic. Who are you to denounce another persons belief?
@PrairieDon1021 Look up the lyrics. they are really powerful, I think he is honestly professing his feelings toward God. And I dont think Tuuttuu2 really knows what he is talking about
@PrairieDon1021 Chris use to be the lead singer of a Christian band (Further Seems Forever) And I don't think this is about God, I think it's about him struggling with what he believes, but I don't think it's directly about any faith.
@PrairieDon1021 He is. He was the singer of Further Seems Forever, I really great christian band signed to Tooth and Nail Records before he started Dashboard Confessional. This is his confession to God, and all the nay sayer and people who doubted his beliefs after he left Further Seems Forever. That's by understanding.
On another note, so listen to Further Seems Forever, at least the album Chris sang on, it really really good stuff.
@PrairieDon1021 my fiance and i have read a interview a magizine has interviewd him and he says that he has been a christian for a while but has never really put it to his music till now cause his band and all isnt on the same page but it would be a blessing if they would follow :)
Yes, he is a christian. His first band was further seems forever which was signed with Tooth and Nail Records - known well for signing christian bands.
He is a Christian, though certainly not the conventional stereo-typical one. He is a member of Further Seems Forever which is, though not officially, a Christian band...
@PrairieDon1021 If this helps at all, Chris Carrabba used to be part of a band called "Further seems forever" or something like that. My point being, is that was a Christian band, so what we have here could be the remnants of a Christian type of song. Interpret it how you want, Chris is notorious for having songs that can be interpreted in several different ways. Hope this answer helps. =]
If you love acoustic music, you should check out the first 2 albums from The Spill Canvas:
Go For The Jugular and Sunsets & Car Crashes
If you're only able to afford one, I'd go for Sunsets & Car Crashers. It has most of the songs from their first album and a couple of others that rock. :)
Alter the Ending is definitely not the album Swiss Army Romance or The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most are, but I saw them live and I found that I liked songs from Alter the Ending a lot more than I did when I listened to them on cd. Of course the old songs were still the highlight of the show.
Do you think you can post the non acoustic version of this song as well. I love both versions but I can't find one video of the other version on youtube other than live stuff.
I'm terribly sorry about the lyrics. I just copied it from some shitty lyrics website figuring it would be correct. But after actually reading them, its terribly incorrect.
No I'm not!

It's about being unable to believe in God, because he's so unsure about it all and confused. Wanting to find God, but not being able to.

Hey I'm not trying to be a stickler or anything...but there's still a few lyrics mistakes that actually take away some meaning to the song...
Like I'm pretty sure it's "can repair" not can't.
After "I see you cut your hair" there's another line, which I think is "I know the saving type."
I know that instead of 'Clear', it's 'Clean' which is definitely different in meaning.
Finally, it's doubting blood not thinning blood.
Ugh I sounded like a jerk didn't I? Heh bugs me when lyrics are wrong
