If it were my I would check his teeth as well as scheduling a chiropractor app. and if everything is in check there, alot of wet saddle pads will help get rid of the attitude. It works better if you can put the hard rides on him out on the trail instead of in an arena, but I know that some people don't have that option. I hope he starts getting better for you!! Let us know how it goes
I'd say possibly back pain...maybe pinching of the saddle or just a strain? I'd have the vet and/or chiropractor check him out. Also, when lunging him, when he kicked both back feet right at your face? DISRESPECT. He had no respect for you that day! LOL! My paint will try, but he will not get away with it. He turns his butt anywhere near my body, and he's getting worked hard. So, vet first to rule out pain, then discipline.
might b feeling good or hes sore somewere or unconftible (sp) somewere. My paint hurt his back and I didnt know it till one day he started rearing and bucking when i went to get on and all his tack fit and he showed no signs of soreness till then
Lovely independance. It is quite obvious you have absolute respect for your animals. Sherman is communicating he is out of sorts, feeling not quite right and today is a day he would much rather be let alone to do as he wishes. You have taught him that he is able to safely object to some things, quite rightly. My heart goes out to you- you are one in a million who understands the hearts of animals.
I had to move this comment; I originally put it in the wrong place :(
Good music choice... very appropriate ;-)
Just a question: have you tried horsie prilosec (omeprazole) that can help & heal ulcers? I think it's probably godawful expensive, but it might give him relief; even if you don't ride him anymore, I'm sure you don't want him to suffer unnecessarily... who knows? You could perhaps get your mount back if he recovers, and IMHO a horse with a job is happier. Best of luck to you ;-)
not insane what so ever me and my ponie are in a HUGE bond i can lie on him when he lies down i can ride him bareback no saddle bridle or hands!!!!! go to my channel to see him and comment if you want me to post a vid of me and him bonding!!!
Right stifle problem? Old vid, but such a sweet looking guy - he is no doubt in pain there somewhere - to kick out like that - especially at certain gaits and transitions. Good learning case for those who are perhaps a bit too quick to blame the horse.
My guess is he has some discomfort (pain or irritation) somewhere, maybe even a stone bruise. But as for riding horses that buck, No One should let one buck and if they ride one that bucks all the time they need to have some one show them how to correct that immediately.
This is fairly easy to correct. My QH Romeo would do this, and every time He kicked up his heels I'd spin him in tight circles( it's very hard to buck when there head is at there side.) After a while of doing this he figured out It made more work for Him and He completely stopped.
I just watched video and I know this is a bit old... and beautiful horse by the way!... I noticed that the majority of the video of him tracking right was severe bucking. Alot of his tracking left was not bucking. Unless that is just a more comfortable direction for the rider... It could have been very uncomfortable when tracking right and not as much when tracking left? Just a thought
I realize this is an old video but it looks to me like this horse is a little short strided on his right hind leg. I would suspect that he had some pain in his back leg. He might have pulled a muscle or twisted wrong. I would check for swelling or heat and give him 24 to 48 rest and see if he was better. I don't think comments about how other people have horses that behave worse than this horse are helpful. If this behavior is out of character for this horse there is a reason.
yeah, if you think this horse is insane, you should try getting a preschooler to train this beautiful horse. Cause his feet hardly leave the ground, he's just having fun
mmmmm, if he does have ulcers... try giving him aloe... my thoroughbreds have them n i gave aloe n theyre demeaner change within a coouple of days, awsome stuff!!!!
Something is either wrong with the horses skelatal system, the saddle doesnt fit or you are not riding correctly. The way he kicks is usually the same and it suggests back or neck problems. you should have your vet take a look
Most of the time when they do something like that its because somethings hurting them or your making them doing something they don't like. But its hard to say without seeing the horse in person. Try to pay close attention to what your doing when the horse acts up.
For all of you commenting on how this is nothing because your horse has done worse... That's not the point!! Get over yourselves and stop trying to one up people. This person was looking for advice and maybe this was bad for them.
The horse could have been feeling his oats that day or he could have been sore. Sore back, legs, feet. Anything. It would be worth looking into, see if he rejects or reacts to stretching and pressure.
im a bit late but this horse looks like he was having pain on his hind left leg. if you look closely is pretty stiff... maybe thats the reason for him acting up that day..
Hope you are not having any more problems but if you are, here is my advice. I have seen this type of behavior before. The horse seems to buck when asked to do trot/canter transitions. He flicks his ears back as he does this, indicating pain. Notice that his range of motion looks reduced in his hocks. I think there is pain here and in his lower back, ( on his top line over his flanks). This pain is easy to check for. Just run your fingers two inches away from his top line starting at his wither
@aridxxluv and thats exactly what i meant...you obviously dont have anything better to do then rant and rave..how old are you 10? every species has a bad day!!! so fuck off!!
@slapurmommaz No, he wasnt. I was only with him for 2 years so im not completely familiar with his background. Sorry this is EnjoyingInsanity on a different account
The saddle could be pinking him mabey...Just yesterday i was riding my new horse and we had the tie down on him,and i was doing the barrels and he started bucking..i almost fell off and he hit me in the head with his neck like 3 times...but i think he was just fighting the tie down...You have a beautiful horse..How old is he?
hes beautiful and your saddle is pretty tight love to see that if they have lose saddles they buck he my moms horse does this for fun but he never means to hurt somebody :P gret riding
Looks to me like he has a stifle problem on the right, because most of the bucks were on the right lead. Sometimes, they get stuck and need to buck to fix themselves.
@EnjoyingInsanity831 Awwww poor buddy! :/ I know of someone whose horse had such bad ulcers that blood came out of his nose. That's pretty scary. I hope he feels better. Maybe pasture rest will do him good.
NOT to be rude i love your horse so CUTE!!!~ but that little buck you consider "insane.. crazy?" haha i ride a horse who bucks all the time you get used to it and thats not insane trust me
@TheMooseCream Ya hes not that insane. But I cant ride him anymore cause he has ulcers :( I ride this thoroughbred who bucks all the time, but theyre playful, not out of his uncomfort
@EnjoyingInsanity831 all the tough guys going off about how thats not insane? just ignore them. its all relative. for you that was insane nothing wrong with that. anyone says it isn't insane again ask them to post a video of themselves bronc riding bareback at a rodeo.
I advice a roundpin. Much easier and safer 4 ppl 2 use then a lung. I would Bcareful; some horses dont take 2 roundpins. I had 1 horse come in2 the middle where I was standin and wouldnt stop, he would follow me, not in the good way. If I stop, he'd push me over. Even with a whip smacking crap out of him he still keep going and would almost kill me. He would push me until I was at the gate and would make me stay there and I had 2 leave the pin 4 my own safety, I advice a pin; just Bsafe
They make things that go around the horses nose and attaches to the beast collar, it will keep his head from going up. Then I think they make something that will go around his hind legs and attack to the girth to keep from doing that. Should do some research. I had a horse through its head alot. You should give one heck of a lung. Make him really get tired and sweaty then ride him around and cool him down. After once he has cooled down reword him with his fav treat
I have the very similar problem... when i tired to train my horse into the westren saddle he always bucked like crazy! I broke him in myself and never not one in two years did he buck. Now even when i ride with an english saddle he throws me off with incredible bucks with speed.... any advice from anyone out there?
@xoxmarshaxox first I would say have a vet check him out. There could be a problem you can't see that is his reason for bucking. Other than that, ride out the bucks and keep going. If you can not ride them out seek a more experienced rider or a trainer
thanks but the vet said there was no problem... he's been getting better every day... or worse... I ride him in lessons weekly and he seems to be getting better... I'm fine with the bucking it's just that when we are in open space he gathers so much speed he ends up getting both of us hurt.
But finally somthing worked. I decided to do something stupid and rode him bareback. He was amazing even though he bucked once... I'll try again tomorrow, crossing fingers I won't end up killing myself... ;)
2) You did well staying on so the next thing I would say is to ask for more forward movement when the buck happens. It seems it is happening in the upward trot/canter transition so do LOTS of those until it is no longer a problem. Do not stop asking for a canter until he/she canters. Do ONLY 2 or 3 strides then walk (the reward for cantering). When you stop asking when he/she bucks, you are saying that's what you want to happen.
1) Your horse was obviously acting up on the line so I would NOT have mounted him until he/she did several canter circles without acting up. The problem should be addressed on the ground first where you can be safer.
Aww Lovley! That looks realy funny! My horse does that all the time, Its scary at the start but then it just gets so funny i cant help but fall of anyway LOL!
Well after all these people yelling at you I thought you would like to hear something nice :)
Ok so what if your horse bucks I mean Misty does it all the time for no reason other than she's a silly horse sometimes. She's a great horse but I wouldn't worrie about it unless he feels off or something but it looks like he was just having a silly day :) he's gorgeous by the way :)
@ChlloeeElizabeth Why dont you shut the fuck up bitch??? I don't think it's right to ride a horse dirty it is something that can be uncomfy for the horse, a good brushing is all he needed! Though from your comment you obviously would ride a horse dirty!
@ChlloeeElizabeth Lol I copied you to be mocking obv you can't tell that! And btw leave my little ratties out of it! Why do you go away and slip into something more comfortable...like a coma?? Your the one who started pestering me just cause I gave my opinion...
@Victoriam4074 well you 'obv' did a shit job at it babes <3 i might go make some videos about my 'ratties' now because i have no life, other than to pick fault on people on youtube.
@ChlloeeElizabeth I'm SAD BECAUSE i MAKE VIDS OF MY RATS in my spare time?? I make the vids to show rat lovers who do love the beasties, and to show people who dont like them that they are ok. And I'll tell you one thing, those vids have given me some great feedback, like the man who previously hated them and then saw my vids and went out and got some! Also I did not pick fault I stated a fact. Leave my rats out of it! My vids have had alot of positivity, and that is all that matters to me!
@ChlloeeElizabeth Why are you picking on me and my rats? The argument was about this vid...Though why stop at just me and my rats since you know us so well? How about picking on my rabbits next? Or my job, house and partner? I mean come on you know me soooooo well??
It's sad you bothered to reply to a 3 month old comment too...you said I picked fault and yet look at you go...I stated fact, it is you who is picking fault in my life which you know nothing about...
@Siennaax Well hunni your the one who can't go away, so I think you'll find your the sad twat, and also the fact that you keep picking on my videos now you've nothing else to say...if I am boring you sooo terribly why do you bother replying and saying stuff about my pet vids?
My vids are nothing to do with you,and if I want to film my pets I'll film them, I ain't the only you tuber proud of their pets you know! And by the way I'm not very much older than yourself...
I just had to reply to your pathetic comment. OMG you need to get your head out your arse. So i take it you dont ride in the winter? or your horses are coverd ears to hoofs? Get a grip girl its better for a horse to be a little dirty as it helps keep them away and waterproof.
@milliesos That conversation was so depressing haha, so much hatred. Not taking sides but grooming a horse is a good time to check for cuts, scrapes, bruises, sore spots, etc. They don't have to be spotless but a quick brush over prevents any possible irritations. I don't see why the comment was taken to such a cruel level. This comment isn't directed at anyone in particular, but most of the horse people I've been around don't ride or work without at least a quick grooming. :)
@ThisIsRiskyBizness I completely agree. I brush my horse before and after I ride. And even on days when I dont ride. He hadnt been ridden in a while and he had stains on him so I didnt bother to wash them off.
@ThisIsRiskyBizness When I owned I would always give a quick brush. You're right to give a quick look for injuries (pick feet) it just keeps them cleaner and relaxes them (and me) lol. God bless you and your horses! =]
I wouldn't exactly call this insane. At best, he's uncomfortable and is trying his best to tell you without hurting you. He's obviously a very well-behaved horse who is letting you know something hurts. He may have just been off that day. But other that, you have a beautiful, well-behaved horse!
my ohrse uste to do that i know i sound like a retard but im not i took the back cinch off and she stopped she didnt like it being back there so mabe you should try that
This horse was/is sore in the right hind, notice when he bucks how he avoids taking weight on it. Also you saddle does not fit him quite right and is pitched forward on him. :~)
Yes his ears were partly forward but, they were flicking..it looks to me that he was listening and did not want to be bad but was sore. I noticed you had his front legs wrapped which could be part of the problem you mentioned that you checked the tack but did you check the wraps to? To be honest he looked a little short in the back leg movement and a little sore in the back. I can tell that he is probably awesome when going properly, quite cute.
@xoxmarshaxox first I would say have a vet check him out. There could be a problem you can't see that is his reason for bucking. Other than that, ride out the bucks and keep going. If you can not ride them out seek a more experienced rider or a trainer
truthstorm 1 year ago
thanks but the vet said there was no problem... he's been getting better every day...

Great job staying on though!

Okay 2 critiques:

Hmm he appears covered in stable stains?? I would never ride my horse dirty...Also I think your horse was just playful...
Victoriam4074 2 years ago
Why? Dirt's not gonna kill him..... And it was much to cold to wash him. He's been diagnosed with stomach ulcers so we've retired him :(

@ChlloeeElizabeth Why dont you shut the fuck up bitch??? I don't think it's right to ride a horse dirty it is something that can be uncomfy for the horse, a good brushing is all he needed! Though from your comment you obviously would ride a horse dirty!

Victoriam4074 1 year ago
@Victoriam4074
me too,
my life revoles around rats,
they're all that matter to me aswell.
we're like soul mates <3
ChlloeeElizabeth 1 year ago
@ChlloeeElizabeth Why are you picking on me and my rats? The argument was about this vid...Though why stop at just me and my rats since you know us so well? How about picking on my rabbits next? Or my job, house and partner? I mean come on you know me soooooo well??
It's sad you bothered to reply to a 3 month old comment too...you said I picked fault and yet look at you go...I stated fact, it is you who is picking fault in my life which you know nothing about...
Victoriam4074 1 year ago
@Victoriam4074 LOL, how old are you?
older than me if you have a house?
such a sad twat, arguing with me, and putting little videos of your rats and rabbits moving. wow :| :L
bye, your boring me.
Siennaax 1 year ago
@Siennaax Well hunni your the one who can't go away, so I think you'll find your the sad twat, and also the fact that you keep picking on my videos now you've nothing else to say...if I am boring you sooo terribly why do you bother replying and saying stuff about my pet vids?
My vids are nothing to do with you,and if I want to film my pets I'll film them, I ain't the only you tuber proud of their pets you know! And by the way I'm not very much older than yourself...

@Victoriam4074
I just had to reply to your pathetic comment. OMG you need to get your head out your arse. So i take it you dont ride in the winter? or your horses are coverd ears to hoofs? Get a grip girl its better for a horse to be a little dirty as it helps keep them away and waterproof.
milliesos 1 year ago
@milliesos That conversation was so depressing haha, so much hatred. Not taking sides but grooming a horse is a good time to check for cuts, scrapes, bruises, sore spots, etc. They don't have to be spotless but a quick brush over prevents any possible irritations. I don't see why the comment was taken to such a cruel level. This comment isn't directed at anyone in particular, but most of the horse people I've been around don't ride or work without at least a quick grooming. :)
ThisIsRiskyBizness 1 year ago
@ThisIsRiskyBizness I completely agree. I brush my horse before and after I ride. And even on days when I dont ride. He hadnt been ridden in a while and he had stains on him so I didnt bother to wash them off.
EnjoyingInsanity831 1 year ago
@ThisIsRiskyBizness When I owned I would always give a quick brush. You're right to give a quick look for injuries (pick feet) it just keeps them cleaner and relaxes them (and me) lol. God bless you and your horses! =]
moodysoup 1 year ago
@Victoriam4074- I don't think "stable stains" would make him buck anyway.
jberban420 1 year ago
I wouldn't exactly call this insane. At best, he's uncomfortable and is trying his best to tell you without hurting you. He's obviously a very well-behaved horse who is letting you know something hurts. He may have just been off that day. But other that, you have a beautiful, well-behaved horse!

This horse was/is sore in the right hind, notice when he bucks how he avoids taking weight on it. Also you saddle does not fit him quite right and is pitched forward on him. :~)
syncyndy 2 years ago
Yes his ears were partly forward but, they were flicking..it looks to me that he was listening and did not want to be bad but was sore. I noticed you had his front legs wrapped which could be part of the problem you mentioned that you checked the tack but did you check the wraps to? To be honest he looked a little short in the back leg movement and a little sore in the back. I can tell that he is probably awesome when going properly, quite cute.
