  • As an American, I'm curious. Do barristers(is that right?) still wear these wigs and the scarves (what are they called please) around their necks? And if so, why? And if not, why did they wear them in the first place? Also, I've found a wonderful series here on YT called, "Garrow's Law." If you haven't seen it, go now. It's centered around a barrister during the 1700's. Wonderfully written and acted. :)

  • @Songsmirth Yes, they do still wear wigs in court.

    It's tradition.

  • @BasilFawlty4444 Thanks Basil. Interesting. :) Songs

  • No. The Death Panels (aka the insurance companies) cancelled insurance and the patient died--just what the gNOp wants.

  • The judge has a good sense of homour.

  • I have a Charles Laughton movie called The Tuttles of the Tahiti on Lazer Disc A rare black and white movie.Any one ever seen it out there???? Nice story line

  • @fredfungalspore Hey Fred. Never heard of that one. Will have to see if anyone has put it up on YT. :)

  • pkring, you miss the point entirely -- it wasn't a private health insurance company that made the patient wait more than six months for the hearing aid she so obviously needs, it was the British National Health Service. The NHS IS public health care.

  • @wwpascoe

but she would have gotten eventually, private health insurance would find a way to deny it completely, good thing we have MEDICARE for the old folks at least in the us. but the rest of thecountry needs it.

  • complete bullshit. SOME people wait a short time for SOME non prioriy treatements. no one waits 6 months for a hearing aid. sure SOME people slip through the system and sometimes there are horror stories but they are just are prevelent under the US sysytem. we complain of course fro time to time but on the whole the NHS is a fantastic system and it works. we also by the way have private healthcare in the UK which runs adjacent to the NHS for wealthy people who do not want to use the NHS.

  • @johant23 dude, it's a movie, it's all a story, none of it is real. I'm sure in real life she would've gotten one. However, to make a better story, they made it otherwise, which helped make the story flow better. so, relax.

  • @johant23 It's only a film,i would suggest you seek councilling, youv'e miissed the whole point of the story,

  • Yes, even then Insurance companies denied payments, and instituted end of life consulting (aka "death panels") which is why we need to get rid of them and have PUBLIC HEALTH CARE.

  • This movie was made in 1957, and released in 1958. Even 50 years ago, Hollywood screenwriters knew about health care rationing and waiting for non-emergency service in the British National Health Service!

  • @wwpascoe

Fortunately she's not waiting for a transplant in Arizona!

  • @wwpascoe Bullshit - "rationing"? "waiting?"

I have never had a problem with the NHS. I have always recieved quality treatment and so has everyone I know. I can see a doctor today if I need to. I don't have to wait more than a few weeks for surgery.

Yes, the papers make a fuss, but let's face it - private or public, there will always be difficulties.

The NHS defines our nation, it makes me proud and no government has dared try and take it away....

    Long live the NHS!

    watch?v=mCrHlAemaFw

  • @wwpascoe holy Lord. are you really going to take viewing a great scene from such a wonderful film and turn it into a political football? really? jesus, this world is screwed.
