I wouldn't say it's a shame necessarily. As long as the drugs don't totally destroy them and they can be rehabilitated, like Elton clearly did as this interview shows, then it's kinda the way you do end up making incredible music. Many artists do, or perhaps used to, take drugs, it's kinda part of the lifestyle I guess. It doesn't mean that once they're clean, they won't be able to play the music they made when they were high.

Thanks for posting these 2 interview segments. We're blessed that this is one of those great artists who made it through the other side & is still around to share the personal & inspire others. I recall watching Mr. Taupin talking about reading the rehab letter Elton wrote him and stating that he asked him how can he write something as moving as those letters and not write lyrics? lol!
