  • I'm addicted to Elton's music, the best kind. ;)

    Anyone recognize this lyric?

"Here's my own belief about all the dirty girls

That you have to clean the oyster to find the pearl

And like rags that belong to you I belong to myself

So don't show up around here till your social worker's helped"

  • Elton should be praised for his honesty. Very revealing.

  • hey, can anybody tell me what EJ says at 0:22 ? what is the joke? I don't really understand it...and can anybody tell me the funny thing about the fact with the wrong person (marie antoinette)? what is so funny about these two things?

  • John always does a top notch interview !

Thank you for sharing this one

    Denner

  • is there a part three to this?

  • i really do object to BBC youtube channels having adverts!

  • @mapgirl9 I just object to adverts (FULL STOP).

    All the best.

    David.

  • Sometimes you can have it all yet still have nothing.

  • Phew !, haha , when I saw Elton John Parkinson I though at first it meant he was taking about having Parkinson disease or something.

    ,

  • need a talk show like this back on the bbc

  • haha he looks like austin powers

  • @borntobwild22

    haha xD

  • To bad he couldn't get through to Michael

  • where is the next part?

  • Top marks for Elton, takes courage to talk so openly about his past addictions

  • @TalkToTheBody I agree, he's a fantastic example to all people out there that are addicted to something... he sends out the clear message that if you want to, you can recover from it and live your life to the fullest :)

  • Your A Victtim of your Own Demise.

    I Like Sir Eltons Honesty.

Anybody who says there,ok after going into a High Priycied De Tox.

Theres One Person you liying to and thats You.

God Bless Sir Elton John,Aka Reg Dwite, we Love You Reg.Lol.

  • What a treat to hear Elton speak about his life. I had only known his music. Very interesting to hear about his life.

  • GET ELTON JOHN ON TOP GEAR!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @xRAMxDOD why??

  • @FutureAbe because, they talk about him a lot

  • Thanks for posting this clip. Inspirtational.

  • he has bad roids--look at how he's sitting on only one asscheek.

  • @eduarfull what?

  • what did Elton said on the 0:22 - 0:25 ? Please someone write me..Coz i dont understand to it,can someone write me the words he said on 0:22 ?

  • @LayDee000. He says: "Sainsbury´s Cockles". It is a small shellfish, belongs to the clam family. Elton use to buy pickled cockles at Sainsbury´s. Are you English speaking? I am swedish, hope you understand now. Best regards. /Jane.

  • @nissekatten thank u a lot! i'm czech, so thanks a lot! Alena :)

  • It's the YouTube comment rating system that gives me some faith in humanity.

  • Mr. Parkinson continued to ask him to answer "me" questions. Maybe you have something to address in yourself? I hope you feel better.

  • Everyone makes mistakes, But he's an amazing singer and it's hard when people don't realize that they need help before its too late. shit happens it's life.

  • @INTHEJUNGLE123 Talk about misinterpretation - it's not about "getting off" in regards to talking about their experiences , it's about being open about it, it's about making the story common knowledge and having a public face for people to relate too. Also, If you were able enough to go on Parkinson you'd have a difficult time trying not to talk about yourself too.

  • @INTHEJUNGLE123 I see you have not a clue.

  • well done Elton

  • Hard to not like the guy when he talks like this. No matter his lifesytle choices, he's down to earth and very honest here.

  • @seattle0002 What lifestyle "choices" are you referring too?

  • @seattle0002 What the fuck do you mean by 'lifestyle choices'?...

  • Elton is amazing. I've been thru rehab and had to write a similar letter to my drug of choice... BTDT. Wish I could call him my friend...

  • Nice to see how Elton's mellowed with age.

Don't get me wrong, he'll probably always remain outrageous and half-crazy, but he also seems remarkably down to earth.

And that's what so fascinating about him.

The two (generalized) parts of his personality shouldn't gel, but they do!

  • Eltons Cool

  • I love Elton John.. He's a true gentleman!!

  • fucking brilliant man. I'm not the type of person who believes that people have a purpose, but every once in a while you run into someone who really changes the world, and you can't picture the world without them...

  • Why is everything that BBC makes good?

  • WHAT is a"silly gay thing" that "normal" people laugh at? Do you even realize how ignorant you sound? I'm straight and have not met one "normal" person in my life... (anyone with any education whatsoever knows that "normal" can only be defined by integers).

  • His style of letter to the drug is interesting. He should publish that. The guy is a great artist, and the letter to cocaine might be an intereting work to read. ????

  • otimo !!! para bems Elton John!!!!

  • adoro elton john

  • wow, i love eltons laugh :)

    it's so cute :) 0:26 <3

    cool interview! thanks :)

  • Which year is this interview from?

  • You will never see Elton John and Anne Robinson in the same room!

  • Charlie Parker would call Elton a pussy. Then again, Elton John looks way better at 65 than Charlie Parker looked at 35...

  • eltons 62 and half just saying

  • All his friends work for him? poor man.

  • Most of them. But they enjoy it.

  • Both men are wearing poppies. These were the flower that grew in No-man's Land in Northern france and Belgium following the end of the First World War. The millions of poppies represent the millons who were killed in World War One. On November 11th in Britain, we remember the dead of the wars. Everybdy buuys and wears a poopy, the money goes to the British Legion (Armed Forces association) to care for old soldiers.

  • anyone know what the red things on their jackets are? i watch a lot of football and all the coaches where them in the fall and ive never known what they were.

  • They are poppies in remembrance of those who died in the 1st world war.

  • Comment removed

  • how do you not know what they are?

  • i'm from the other side of the pond and people don't wear them here. and i'm not as smart as you.

  • I love scotch........... and as far as the drugs, hell we wouldnt have the fantastic music we have today if not for drugs. We musicians are self abusers by nature, tortured souls looking for the thing we will never find find except in another melody, and so it goes..........

  • you sound like a middleschool kid with an IQ of 5. Fantastic music? If you're talking about bands like the beatles (of which, they did not record any song whatsoever when they were on drugs or high, and only ONE song is about an Acid Trip ["She Said She Said"], chuck berry, Les Paul, Billy Preston, Boston, etc.

Music is not outcome of drugs...since the beginning of time.

  • OMFG are you retarded? I suppose not, theres not a lot of miss-spellings in your dribble. So i guess that just makes you plain stupid since your not ignorant of the existence of a few of the great musicians of our time. Oh dear.... so where do i start with a proper retort to your stupidity.... Lets start with the only one song... What the hell do you think lucy in the sky with diamonds is about? LSD..... STUPID! So do you know one thing about Billy Preston? The fifth Beatle as he was called.

  • Lucy in the sky with diamonds is NOT about LSD!.......STUPID! Try actually get your facts right!

  • Continued.. Billy loved the weed as did the original Beatles every since they were turned onto it by Bob Dylan. Let me guess he was a sober guy too? lol... I could go on all day so if you want to get into a debate over this i would love to point out how wrong you are... Best to just SHUT UP STUPID!

  • Musicans have taken drugs, they are role models and kids look up to them, so don't do that stuff. Look at the jonas brothers

  • Im not saying its right or wrong im just saying that it is..... Most of the influential music of the last 50 years has been drug induced. Personally i dont do heavy drugs just because i dont like the way it affects me on stage but other musicians feel it helps them so whatever. But really the Jonas Brothers? Lets keep real musicians only in this discussion lol

  • How can you say that the Jonas Brothers aren't musicians, they make music don't they? and loads of people don't take drugs look at Miley or Beyonce. They are important, at least to me, and is the now generation of music. Beatles is like what my dad like

  • the beatles are timeless, jonas bros and miley'll be forgotten about in a year or so. Beyonce will probably stay around longer, though

  • No they aren't.

  • obviously, THATS an opinion.

  • no, its tthe whole galaxys opinion....ppff...

  • remember Elton John made music with John Lennon who was a Beatle.and EJ was friends with him.

my opinion is the Beatles and Elton John are great!

  • it is a shame tho that a lot of artists do their best stuff when on drugs

  • I wouldn't say it's a shame necessarily. As long as the drugs don't totally destroy them and they can be rehabilitated, like Elton clearly did as this interview shows, then it's kinda the way you do end up making incredible music. Many artists do, or perhaps used to, take drugs, it's kinda part of the lifestyle I guess. It doesn't mean that once they're clean, they won't be able to play the music they made when they were high.

  • very honest with himself. which i like!

  • If he produces "boring crap"why bother watching him on You Tube, you sound a bit jealous mate.

  • so scary, i've seen people suffer with different addictions - anorexia, bulimia, alcohol, smoking - even an addiction to porn, and yet people don't realise the damage it does until they take a step back, my anorexic friend sits there wanting to get thinner and won't listen to anyone, it's only when u take them and make them look straight past that addiction that they'll see the mess it's caused

  • wtf? sansburies cockles? (im from america, i dont understand english, lol) what is that he ate, anyone?

  • Sainsbury's Cockles. Sainsburys is a supermarket chain (like Walmart or Asda as it it is in the UK). Cockles are like clams but smaller.

  • thank you :D

  • Thanks for posting these 2 interview segments. We're blessed that this is one of those great artists who made it through the other side & is still around to share the personal & inspire others. That great & quick humor of the Brits is on display here. I recall watching Mr. Taupin talking about reading the rehab letter Elton wrote him and stating that he asked him how can he write something as moving as those letters and not write lyrics? lol! Here's yet another toast to the Captain & the Kid...

  • I'm not sure who here has had an addiction, but right at the end Elton says "addictions are horrible, no matter what sort of addiction it is". Through my own experiences, I persoally second that.

  • It's ironic seeing this after watching that video of him and Lily Allen where he said "I could still snort you under the table."

  • :P He wasn't implying that he would do it...he was just being Elton. I'm not trying to condescend you, though :)

  • Because they have lots of money and lots of free time. The rest of us have to try and keep it together for work on Monday mornings.

  • It's good when celebrities talk about their addictions, it brings those issues into the public eye and gives addicted viewers hope.

  • He looks so well now

  • Is the entire interview here anywhere??

  • I will never understand why talented people use drugs.

  • Because They Have So Much Money.

  • People without talent use drugs too. It's because an addiction is an illness

  • Find a copy of the book entitled 'Alcoholics Anonymous' and read the chapter 'The Doctor's Opiniion' before you make such a bold statement.

  • Yes it is. Nobody would choose to be an addict.

  • I've been in the exact same position as Elton. I wonder if he finds it easy to talk about it?

  • Elton John is so amazing. Just being able to talk about this is great. The best artist of all time. (or one of them)

He's also a really great funny guy.

  • wonderful

  • Do you take pride in putting people down? He's worked hard to overcome his troubled days, the least you could do is be open minded.

  • I found this painfully honest and very moving.

  • He's fantastic. Captain fantastic! Thanks a lot for this one!

  • i love him he's a real swell guy

  • This is why I love this guy. Totally aside from the music. Amazing character, he has.

  • good.. make 4 and ill die happy

  • Oh, god, his honesty is amazing. It's hard to admit this.

  • admire him so much!

  • Wow. God bless him. I'm glad he found the strength to do that.

  • you have to respect his honesty
