I think his vote of "present" (which has the same effect as a "no") against the Illinois Born Alive Protections Act - twice - is pretty extreme. Even NARAL didn't object to the national version of the bill. Alan Keyes called it right when he said Obama supported infanticide. We've had sex education in the public schools for decades now... And what have we accomplished? Pretty much nothing. The only sure way to avoid getting STDs and avoid unintended pregnancy is to practice abstinence and save intercourse until one is in a committed, monogamous marriage.

You're not getting it. War enters a gray area that does not necessarily exclude one from receiving honors at a Catholic university. The Just War doctrine tells us that war is sometimes justified. Abortion is never justifiable. It is always a grave evil. That is why the most anti-abortion president in history, Obama, should not have been honored and why G.W. Bush's case was not as clear. There is no doubt in the case of Obama.

How many children have you adopted in your lifetime. If so, why not more? There are millions of orphans already in this country growing up with a huge disadvantage in life. Will your God see that you had the capabilities of adopting one of his children (or additional children if you have adopted) but chose not to? In fairness, as you quoted the Old Testament, Judaism says it is after 40 days. That is when part of the soul enters the body, but the zygote/fetus/baby is not considered a human until birth. The question is whether or not you only listen to Jewish law when it suits you, or do you take the Judaic roots of your faith seriously? No offense intended, but it seems that more Christians should pay attention to the bulk of Judeo-Christian writings available before deciding to become militant.

I joined the church several years ago, and since moving to Massachusetts, have begun despairing about Her condition. "Dude, where's my church?!" These noble students are restoring my hope and are encouraging me. I'm grateful to each of them.

That's because the good people of Notre Dame were at the alternate graduation ceremony going on at the same time. The news didn't report the yellow crosses with baby feet on over 100 students' mortar boards at the Obama event, did they? Not for nothing but I would not have asked President Obama to come to speak at Notre Dame-or any Catholic institution; I start with the presumption that if you are an American President you are a war criminal and probably a crook to boot so why would I give you a Catholic venue to make yet more political propaganda; having said that I defend the right of Notre Dame to invite him to speak and for people who disagree with him to peaceful but forcefully protest.
