@372nat It all depends on the manner of how you say it. If your really true about your thought it could have a positive effect. But the best and most successful way a man can comfort a woman is to understand her pain and just be there. Words don't compare to the energy you give off by being humble and quiet and trying to know that you can't understand her pain.
I once assisted a delivery and during the active phase of labor, the husband asked 'Does it hurt?' to our surprise, the wife suddenly bit the husband's hand (hard) and snapped, 'Did that hurt? Imagine that on your penis. Tenfold.' True story.
It's a good thing we were wearing masks. I was grinning like a hyena. XD
One thing not to do: Do NOT take the lady's bed while she's out for a walk in the hallway. My dad did that. Mom got back with terrible back pain and dad was snoring on her bed, she never let him forget it, not even after 20 years.
another one I have banned my partner from saying (actually due in 2 days but have been reminding him from 3months pregnant) is....
"oh it cant be that bad" or "it cant hurt that much"!!! during a contraction you DO NOT want to hear that or you will try your hardest to show the daddy-to-be how much it does hurt! :D
one tip, Brad, is that, if she's asleep or has gotten anything that has made her groggy... keep your eyes on her hands... aiming for my husband's hand in the middle of a contraction while napping (and without my mil and the nurse vouching for him, I didn't believe this at first) with my second, I nearly castrated my husband manually... simply trying to grab his hand.
hey, lay off the mother in laws... I LOVE mine... and she was the only one I wanted with my second and third (with my first, she wasn't an option, unfortunately)
she was the real help with my second and I hated that she couldn't be there for my third.
Instead, it was my MOTHER who was literally banned from the room and who the nurses promised to keep out. (just her entering my room made my bp shoot up)
What I said "You should have seen the show in the waiting room. It was awesome!"

You're welcome! I often describe this question as the woman's equivalent of "when did you stop beating you wife?"
sarahcyn 1 year ago
they could have added: "Are you having a contraction now?"
Unless the mum has an epidural this is the MOST annoying question on earth. If she's having one, she can't answer it.
