  • Rush is the best 3 man but some other great 3 man out fits like ZZTop and The Police are great too and so was Triumph, Zebra,Coroner,Blotted Science.

  • 3 man band clean and concise and discipined.....What more do you need? :)

  • a far out cry for farrah faucet from waterwell wishing

    watch?v=esXTFQzvXJI&feature=related

    gates of years stirs pot

    confuscoius cauldron

but you can call me tim

    wizard from 2013

  • The guitar sounds like something off the 2112 album.

  • this was my first RUSH album... bought it on a suggestion from a drummer friend of mine... it's absolutely magical and still one of my favorites

  • i tried to learn this but it takes the piss

  • This is the roots of "Red Barchetta" Look at the time and signiture!!! Hot Sh^&%$##@#

  • The beginning fits the cover,Then really fukin rocks

  • FYI for anyone who doesn't know: Neil Peart often credited Ayn Rand as a major influence on his lyrics. "2112" is pretty much based directly on her novel "Anthem". Ron Paul (also strongly influenced by the writings of Ayn Rand -- enough that he named his son after her) has often given praise to Rush and I don't know but I'm guessing Neil Peart probably is a fan of Ron Paul.

  • @fedwatcher9 His son is not named after Ayn Rand. They call him Rand but for a long time he was Randy...Interesting coincidence yes....but no.

  • @fedwatcher9 That's very interesting about Ron Paul.

  • "Scheming demons dressed in kingly guise..." (most all politicians and their sycophants in the MSM)

"The hypocrites are slandering the ancient halls of truth..." (most all hypocrite politicians and those in the MSM who all have the gall to slander the Constitution, limited government, and those who defend those)

Yep, this song gets truer by the year.

  • The whole album is a great ride.....

  • RUSH. Aside from being musicians they are also...

    Lion Trainers

    Amateur Tattoo artists

    Magicians

    Stock -Car racers

Astronauts (They have walked on the moon a combined total of 43 times. With out space suits of course. Chuck Norris cant even do that)

    They invented oxygen

Oh and periodically RUSH has to be "not so good". This helps to keep the planets in line and to prevent from any oceans dividing.

Not sure if any of thats true but I'd believe it.

  • @LifeUnderTheSwatter So fukin true I saved this on my favs just so i can read your post.Very good indeed.Wow this song will never fade to black as it fukin rocks

  • One of the finest things to hit my ear! :-)

  • If anyone can help, I was looking in to purchasing Rush Sector 2 off amazon. I noticed that A farewell to kings is a DVD version of the album. However, on amazon it says there are 5 Cd's and one DVD included in the package. So can kings be played in a DVD and a CD player, or is it two separate albums? Or is amazon just completely wrong? Help would be appreciated.

  • i love this smart ass song ~

  • Thank You !

  • anyone see a parrell to whats going on in the world now?

  • @winddmmy no, because no one knows what a parrell is.

  • One of the first Rush songs I ever heard. Just epic.

  • Rush's GREATEST ALBUM of THE 70s

  • @wreyoG id have to disagree it is a great album but nothing beats 2112

  • @1969rayzor yes, THIS album does for me...cheers!

  • My own personal music progression has been as follows: Rush FREAK 1980-1990. Pink Floyd maniac 1990-1994. Phish-head 1995-2000. JAZZ worshipper 2000-present day.

Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington were gods.

    Have a great day.

    It's good to be alive.

  • @tristramshandy3 : Surprised there's no mention of Yes or Mahavishnu Orchestra here.

  • Cities full of hatred, fear and lies;

Withered hearts and cruel tormented eyes.

Scheming demons dressed in kingly guise,

    Beating down the multidue and

    Scoffing at the wise.

  • The hypocrites are slandering

    The sacred halls of Truth

    Ancient nobles showering

    Their bitterness on youth

    Can't we find

The minds that made us strong

    Can't we learn

To feel what's right and wrong

  • Just one more great reason why Rush is Western Tradition, albeit in a contemporary setting. Always invaluable lessons to learn.

  • song is about the enlightenment. specifically the french revolution

  • one of the best intro ever...

  • @RAKETHELEGEND Besides Boston's "Foreplay/Long Time".

  • erm... ok ..Maybe u actually do like neil....sorry... i didnt read into all yr comments....many apologies my friend....

  • why is that mr Pinonino or pinocheo or whatever ???-is that because you are some jealous loser who cant bear the fact that neil peart is one of the best drummers this world has known -go and play with yourself u idiot - bet u have a lot of practice at that.

  • Ah!! The album that started my whole Rush life back in the late 70's. I wasn't even 10 yet and remember buying this album not long after Hemispheres came out in '78. I use to stare at the cover and get caught up in the whole majestic "medievel times" sound. Caress of Steel is like that too

  • if it wasn't for rush and led zeppelin, i might not have had the will to survive my youth... :/

  • if i saw neil peart i would slit his nick with a cleaver and have nasty sex with his corpse

  • @MrPinonino holy shhhhittt

  • @MrPinonino

    Uhm...Wow.

  • @MrPinonino

I'm sorry.......... what?? Thats just odd and gross.

  • Rush....my love songs...Hey Don U. Remember laying on the hood of your car gazing at the stars listening to this (8 track) 1977?? WE found the place that led us closer to the heart~~♥♥♥

  • This is one of the best composed songs that touched me in my youth. It has a beautiful strange attraction and then a demanding attention that you CAN NOT turn you back on. CANT WE FIND THE MINDS THAT MADE US STRONG????

  • its sounds so similar to the trees (the intro)

  • cool song

  • the drumming behind the guitar solo is totally solid

  • they have so many better songs than 2112, and this is one of them :)

  • @fuckamericanidiot nah im pretty sure 2112 kicks ass. this is good but not better

  • This. THIS is why I am proud to be Canadian!

  • @Kagomai15 This is why I stand proud to know and be related to Canadian family!!!! I stand proud to know such wonderful people.

  • @superunt43 Yay! Aren't we just awesome? jkjk

There's a lot of really good Canadian bands and artists (*glares at Bieber for ruining it*), often people just don't realize they're Canadian. Like... Marianas Trench, Three Days Grace, Avril Lavigne, etc. Everyone knows Rush is Canadian though =D

  • @Kagomai15 Im not from canada but i love RUSH! seen them live six times starting in 78. it amazes me how loud and crystal clear it is!! and theres only three guys up there! They are awesome still!!

  • @cooljwm1 Dang, I'm so jealous! My dad's gotten me into them over the last two years but I haven't been able to go see them yet, even though they came to Bayfest last year :( I've only ever been to a Three Days Grace and a Great Big Sea concert, both awesome Canadian bands, too. I'd love to see Rush!

  • @Kagomai15 i had the chance to see em in 91 or 92 in odessa tx and we went to get the tickets and my stupid b/f decided not to get the tickets and bought D&D dice things instead...TALK ABOUT PISSED OFF!!! still makes me mad..he also made it impossible for me to see pink floyd as well...i shoulda sewed him up in a sheet one night n beat him with a skillet!!

  • @beckyrooonio1 --did he fuck you good n eat your pussy real good?

  • you are a arss hole my friend...

  • @beckyrooonio1 saw floyd twice momentary lapse and delicate sound of thunder , you missed out there.

  • @beckyrooonio1 - are you married to your (at the time) stupid boyfriend ? If so, I hope he has changed his ways. :)

  • @beckyrooonio1 I hope he isn't your bf anymore.. He sounds like a real geek.

  • @beckyrooonio1 WOW.I would be incenced with anger.I seen them at Ivor Wynn Stadium in 78 with Max Webster,Awestruck show,I was blessed to see Floyd in 86.at the CNE Grandstand. U should have used a sleeping bag with a zipper that way it's twice as hard to get out. Can't blame for being fit with rage. What the fuk are D&D dice things. Not those u hang on your car mirror?Look everyone I have a pair of dice on my rearview mirror. Those instead of RUSH.Have u dumped this person yet.

  • @PETESEYESBLUE That is awesome I remember seeing them play all over Toronto Massey Hall Lake Front with Triumph and Max Webster what a great time and they went to high school with my sisters but, Alex lived next door to my girlfriend up near Fairview Mall around the peanut Don Mills and Sheppard.

    Cheers =].

  • @GhostsInMyAttic No shit Remember the Gasworks,Rondum Pub,U must remember Goddo,Fuck I had so much fun in the 70s,80s,C.N.E. Ontario Place.Nothing especially the chicks with dicks bands can even come close to these fukin relics to which i have never waivered from to this day,Dundas,Roncesville,Rexdale Cheers Canadian Brother

  • @beckyrooonio1 tell me you're not still with him. lol.

  • Who's got rythym ar anything given, it is by the Holy spirit and dedication to what you God given, everything comes from above, if he will it, you purpose it. I applaud him, held my bic up for these a few times. 2112

  • 3:13-3:22 is rhythym heaven.

  • If you love Rush, try these on for size!

    Gentle Giant

    Yes

    Wishbone Ash

    Genesis (earlier years)

    Eloy

    Phish

Can't think of anymore now, but you get the idea!

  • @guidenredhawk Focus!

  • @guidenredhawk Try kingston wall it's fucking genious. These band are like

    orgasms for me.

  • rush have a sound no other band has or probably every will have!

  • There's a documentary out on Rush. Great for my friends who were Rush fans. Very good for me to help me appreciate them. Highly recommended.

  • This is one of The best albums Ive ever heard. Here are a few to compare: 91215 (Yes), Permanent waves (Rush), Boston (Boston), Point of know return (Kansas). If you are a rush fan these are some other great classic bands you'll love!

  • And yea it does take a certain taste in music...or a couple of awesome uncles to turn ya on like I had.

  • My First concert was Rush "A Farwell To King's"in Ft Wayne Indiana about 1980 at the Memorial Colisium, second concert was AC/DC Back in Black same place...i was like 14 and sooo high and amazed,i was a little country boy around thousands of people smoking and jamming...changed my world! we had floor tickets too hehe!

  • fuckin asum

  • Outstanding song by Rush. Thanks Rush. Nice work.

  • highly distinctive voice that grows on you once accustomed to its high pitch ... first time i heard Geddy Lee singing i almost laughed outloud b/c it's so unusual but i guess that's true of many top vocalists .. it's a 'technically' strong voice he has aswell which isn't always the case although for serious instrumental bands like Rush, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin it's the rule .. a truly great band but also an acquired taste, coming at you 'leftfield', only for the discerning

  • @AlanWattParrot great point rush is a great band, but you do need an acquired taste to truly appreciate them.

  • @EvenFlowGaming i only discovered them for real a few months back even tho they've always benn there lurking in the backround with mates into them but not really picked up on their vibe, think it's a kind of maturity that you need to be into Rush but that's not to say teenagers with more sophisticated musicl tastes than myself aren't bang into them too, i'm sure they are - especially the youngsters who play an instrument .. i got up to grade 4 piano lol, bit of blues n ragtime tho! big Zepp head

  • @AlanWattParrot yeah youre right maturity is a big part. and zeppelin rules!

  • @EvenFlowGaming cheers man, good to make your acquintance. You're a man of taste.

  • After KISS ,i saw this RUSH tour in cinci .......think judas opened??

  • In the Name of The Lee, The Lifeson, and The Holy Peart.

  • @joshtheobjectivist YES! THE RUSH TRINITY!!!

  • long live lee, lifeson and peart. rush forever!

  • who ever doesnt like rush i will fight you man to man...

  • just ordered in my farewell to kings shirt, boss shit

  • @SMACKHOES69 So cool. Im thinking of ordering one my self.

  • well then, this is just a tiny (HUGE) slice of heaven now - isn't it!

  • RUSH!!!

  • great band, good memories to this music, and to this day I can still see those summers, bikinis, surfboards, lakes, and camps! Most of all thinking!

  • quick to judge quick to anger slow to understand

    Ignorance and prejudice

and fear walk hand in hand

  • @melkorsring Someone actually listens? Go figure?

  • Remember doing some hits before listening to this back in the day, the best

  • this is a nice song to go trout fishing in the countryside to.

  • This song was ahead of it's time. It speaks Ayn Rand all the way. Neil Peart is a fan of hers. It also discribes the world governments today all the way!!!!! But we as a people let it happen. It will take we as a people to stop it!!

  • @gunner0202 Indeed, most do not know "Witch-hunt" is not about witches at all, simply how humans treat each other. Nothing more.

  • @gunner0202 Who is John Galt ;-)

  • @freethoughtmusic Amen to that bro!!!!!!!!!! I am John Galt! LOL

  • @freethoughtmusic :) I'm reading 'Atlas Shrugged' right now!

  • @soothslayer21 Rock on dude. ;-)

  • @soothslayer21 trying to get through the fountainhead right now, does Atlas Shrugged pertain to this?

  • @JacobTheButcher Yes. More or less.

  • There can be no such harm feelings coming from/because of such beautiful music. They might worship us, i guess.

  • niel perts drumming is sexy

  • This song should be sent through radio waves across the universe, so people from other worlds could witness the beauty of our music...

  • @mephisto656 Damn...that was so well put.

They would probably destroy us because they would feel threatened, that we as earthlings can produce such beautiful sounds...and they can't. Or they might just worship us?

For the better part of 40 years, Rush has been a musical giant.

Goes to show that good music stands the test of time...as opposed to what is just popular.

  • RUSH♥♥♥''FAREWELL TO KINGS''

  • fuck religion, rush is life.

  • RUSH is my religion

  • One of my favorite album covers

  • I saw the show for that album a long long time ago...It was a great show, they do give a great performance..Catch them if you can..

  • if you agree that RUSH should play this on their next tour, please thumbs up!

what an EPIC masterpiece of music!

  • i could re-write these lyrics and change the title to "farewell to muslims"

    I'll post them

  • julie tu te souviens? Océan city Maryland!!!!

  • Rush!!!!!!

  • The comment I put before this one is LegendOfOldTrafford's comment, to those curious about it.

  • those people they havent dined on Honey Dew like us,whilst drinking the milk of Paradise while riding on the passage to Bangkok as we observe the struggle of The Tree's.Those people have not yet stared out into the Hemispheres while speeding in the Red Barchetta as fast as we can out of the subdivisions like we have.Hopefully they heed our Early Distant Warning and start listening to the Natural Science that is Rush which allows people to become closer to their Hearts that is Rush

  • This is my favorite intro in rock history!!!

  • 7/8 time! Didn't know it existed until I discovered Rush. Thanks for uploading.

  • I would die to be able to do a guitar battle with Alex at the gap that begins at 3:23

  • Orgasmic!

  • i heard of rush when i was 13 and im 17 now and they are deff my favorite band and whenever i try to show my friends their songs they listen to a min of it and turn it off and start trying to have me listen to some lil wayne shit and it really pisses me off that my generation cant appreiciate good quality music and just want something catchy

  • @coolskullz I know it's hard at your age to stand up for the music you like with all the pressure you get from your friends but stay strong and who cares what they think! Most music they try and get you kids to listen to now has no soul and is "sung" by people that can't sing for shit. Make sure you listen to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones as well! These bands are good to get your rock and roll basics from. Don't listen to the radio, youtube it and you''ll find all sorts of GREAT music.

  • @Johnnywhamo no truer words have ever been spoken, im young and my friends pressure me but i always stay true to rock and never listen to those overly autotuned hiphop/rapsters that they say is "good"

  • @ottman714 Good stuff buddy. lol, long live rock!

  • @coolskullz I'm right there with you man. I've been a Rush fan since the age of 5, I'm 21 now, and my friends are all into rap and whatnot. I can only listen to a "spoonful" of rap before having to get my fill of Rush, Yes, Grand Funk, etc. But what pisses me off about my friends (except one who has good taste) is that the ones who do listen to rock all listen to the new alternative rock like Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, Stone Sour, and those kinds and say Rush sucks. (Go to next comment)

  • @coolskullz Nothing against Shinedown, I like Shinedown. They have some really good stuff and a lot of soul in their music. But, I'm in a band and we do covers of Rush, Yes, etc. All the old classic progressive rock stuff. And whenever we play it... MY FRIENDS LOVE IT!!! I dunno. I guess it's just the tag they're skeptical about. The tag of "listening to 'old sh*t'". Screw it. I listen to all sorts of old '60s, '70s, and '80s stuff as well as some new bands like Coheed & Cambria (look em up). ->

  • @coolskullz So yeah, keep the tradition of rock alive, man! Rush forever! \m/,

  • Going to see them in El Paso in 12 days. Can't wait!!

  • @pellacan56 You wont be disappaointed, I just saw them and there was not a dull moment in the show!!!

  • Only had to hear less than 2 mins to like it!!!!

  • I take every insult to rush personally.

  • @cpmaniac I'm a big Rush fan too!!!!!!!!

  • @cpmaniac how is it possible anyone can insult them and mean it.... who ever does needs to be shot

  • @cpmaniac you have problems

  • @aaqaaqaaqaaqaaqaaqaa Go back to listening to your Beiber, freak.

  • @cpmaniac that might be the finest comment i've ever heard....you rock on bro i just got back from seeing thiem with my wife and two kids in George, WA....can't get it out of my head it was so fine

  • @toddgenerator I'm soooo jealous! I want to see them live SO bad! i've heard they are the best live band ever.

  • @cpmaniac It's like hearing the albums live. They are just about always that tight, especially if you seem them into the tour rather than first stops. It's amazing how 3 guys can sound so much larger

  • @cpmaniac i would fuckin fight whoever disrespected rush

  • @cpmaniac If you insult Rush, I'd be more insulted than if you spit on me and insulted my religion.

  • @Ryu12543 one earns a broken jaw, the other, well let's just say that 2 of your best friends will be taking a vacation

  • @cpmaniac So do I, why would anyone insult these guys? I take an insult to them as a personal assault.

  • @cpmaniac As do I.

  • @cpmaniac SAME WITH ME!! TRUE IM NOT LIEING!

  • @cpmaniac Hmmmm...Need a life? ;-)

  • @sly2kusa possibly :D haha.

  • @cpmaniac as well you should brother....as well you should....

  • @cpmaniac I am with you. Rush is just as important as the air that I breathe. Those who do not like Rush are hard to understand and obviously need counseling.

  • Yes! No one will write how they wrote! This was a special moment in time and to be repeated will/would be a Hell of a long shot.....So buy it(been there many times:)/youtube it..But enjoy the glory of it My friends:)!!!

    Tis A Classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • does anyone know if Rush ever put anything out with any of the drummers that came before Peart??

  • @nosajj12345 Rush wrote Rush with John Rutsey

  • @nosajj12345 Their first self-titled album

  • The hipocrits are slandering the sacred hals of truth.... Well, there's the Canadian Government right there :D

  • brill

  • RUSH - The best group ever

  • 4 ppl need there ears checked by geddy lees voice

  • Im 24, A lot of people slate me me for my music taste (heavy metal mostly) but by god am i glad i came across these guys, they KNOW how to make a good, even, awesome song. I don't care what anyone says, modern can not possibly compare to this band, or any other prog band from this time.

Long live Prog, and long live good, honest music by good, honest musicians :D

  • Dear Rush...thank you for this tune:) I dedicated it to my brother when he passed:) He loved Rush:)) Love you and forever you guys hold a piece of my heart:) Cheers!! Love LiLSiS

  • Just outta curiousity...why do people watch..then post to slam another genre of music? Enjoy Music for the peace and happiness spread...stop slamming one genre or another....You prolly werent born in the hood.... You prolly didnt get raised inner city .....had you been (which chances are you havent been) then you would prolly like it...anyways...appreciate music for what it is and who it came from and why...spread the message of peace vs meesage of ignorance...RUSH por vida!!:)

  • omg i wanna learn this so bad!!!!

  • whos going to see RUSH at copps colliseum next tuesday?? like if u are!

  • @girouxcor i went and it was such a sick concert! rocking out the whole time, i was sweating buckets

  • @TheDanCrawford words cannot descibe how good tht concert was..
