@trevortjes this is how you do it.... in the simple way!!! in C major scale will be C,D,E,F,G,A & B.... right?? the 2nd, 3rd & 6th chords will always be the minor chord.... so in C major you'll have D minor, E minor and A minor....
@trevortjes dont need to know them.... hearing is much better than theory!! if you know theory.... it's just that you can easily write or compose any music.
Andrew you are amazing for putting so much effort into making this material and distributing it for free, your playing is some of the best! Thanks for your guidance, and Kudos to you
damn,I really want ot know how to play the guitar but all these keys are just confusing me,some says I shuld learn them and some say I shouldn't and just improvise(play some). But how the hell can I mprovise if I can't even know what I'm playing? I've learn't some licks on the guitar but I feel like I don't want to know them lol. I just want to be able to dish out some licks of my own.Should I learn keys? Should I learn anything? or should I just play some sht that I don't understand what is? :/
@zykos1 learn some basic lines and scales and then just use your ears til you find something that sounds good, ones you get used to where your fingers go to lead into notes they'll just follow your head into what sounds you wanna hear. it's like singing through your fingers
@Klassenex I've got all of the seven chords down, all of the musical alphabet(only 7 notes) and where and what notes which are on the fretboard,I've also learned the first position of the pentatonic scale AND that I can move that scale to whichever note I want on the E string, but, back to what you stated...Do you have any useful tips for me now?
I have been playing guitar for a few years now, on and off. I want to learn how to solo and all everyone has been telling me is to learn the scales. My concern is that learning scales is one thing, knowing how they apply to the fretboard and songs is another.
I think you are a good teacher and i am looking forward to visiting your site.
@mrbajan listen to them, the pentatonic scale is my favorite, and it's simple to learn(less notes). But soloing is basically a compilation of a bunch of different riffs. So what you can do is just screw around making some up yourself, and stealing some from songs you already know. Learn some guitar solos that were already made up and take stuff from that. At least that's how I learned. Hope this helps
hey andrew i need some help i want to learn solos but i dont know the scales or pentatonics and that stuff but i know everything else except the lead stuff and i want to stary playing lead guitar and learning so is it a must to learn all the scales and stuff PS(ive been playing for more than a year )
i cant just pick up my guitar and start soloing the only i can get a solo that i like is by playing with a band its only when i have a drummer and a rhythm guitar playing along side me when i can actually compose or play a solo.
that would be my advise to some guitar players its easy to compose rhythm composing solo would be easier if you record or get a CD with some backing tracks that would make it easier, always learning scales does help, knowing what notes sound great with each other
@halfhott my advice to you would be practice with backing tracks more it just gets you thinking a lot more about tempo and helps you to improve your ear skills as well. In my opinion is also makes playing guitar a hell of lot more fun
andrew. im pretty new at all this you talk about practice with a few chord progressions can you give me some of those chord progressions to use? thank you!
Great Lesson, I really love the way you explain things! Apart from the rectangle shape.
I'd like to add up, just to help the beginners it's really easy to find the notes on the guitar fret board, just look and learn the 'Magic Triangle' or PM me i'll be glad to help out. :)
Hey thanks so much Andrew! I just started soloing and have been only playing for 13 months and it's overwhelming. The less is more is really positive way to approach things. I don't want to be a shredder or anything like that but I would love to be able to pick up a guitar and be able to do a decent solo. You just gave me a lot of hope. BTW I have subscribed to your site. It's excellent!
Sorry if the question has been asked and answered before, but I am wondering what is that black thing he has at the end of his guitar under his right arm?
Just another big thanks!! I play bass, but this material is still incredibly useful to me!! You have a way of explaining things that makes it easy to understand. Please keep it up!!!
Andrew is doing an incredible service by putting this material out for free. I would have killed for all this info when I was starting out. Support this guy however you can! Subscribe and visit his sites at the very least. Hey Andrew, who won the round of golf? You or Alice Cooper? ( Bet Eighteen is his favorite hole )
Andrew played golf with Cooper? Gaah! I'm a huge Alice fan! Andrew would have to be a heck of a player to keep up with Coop. lol! Btw, Andrew, this is probably my favorite video on soloing! Great job and thank you!
I'm still trying to learn some shred techniques and it's getting better (especially the picking) but you don't have to be a shredder to play some cool sounding solos, using simple phrasing techniques, along the lines that Andrew is talking about here. I don't think most people understand the time it takes to get really fast and smooth on the guitar, free to express themselves however they choose. It takes dedication and practice, practice, practice! Thanks for your lessons Andrew!
Awesome video. I know a load of scales in one fixed position but I've been having loads of trouble trying to get some movement going on in there and this lesson has sorted that right out! :)
it's easy to play jazz or blues solo but metal , that's the problem for me , got eny tips to help, I would appreciate it :D
