  • it's easy to play jazz or blues solo but metal , that's the problem for me , got eny tips to help, I would appreciate it :D

  • THIS GUY KNOWS WHAT IS TALKIN' ABOUT !

    And duude.. Nice intro/outro solo!

  • What's the 3rd chord in the key of C?

  • @thebelladawg E minor...

  • @hothengchun sorry, but how did you find out it was Em?

  • @trevortjes this is how you do it.... in the simple way!!! in C major scale will be C,D,E,F,G,A & B.... right?? the 2nd, 3rd & 6th chords will always be the minor chord.... so in C major you'll have D minor, E minor and A minor....

  • @hothengchun thanks! I don't really know how scales are built, i only know how to play them :P

  • @trevortjes dont need to know them.... hearing is much better than theory!! if you know theory.... it's just that you can easily write or compose any music.

  • you could get arrested for playing a bad solo with the volume up too high. disturbing the peace

  • Andrew you are amazing for putting so much effort into making this material and distributing it for free, your playing is some of the best! Thanks for your guidance, and Kudos to you

  • i wish my internet is faster,,,

  • Comment removed

  • "nobody is gonna arrest you for playing a bad solo" lol maybe rock n roll police?

  • Andrew what is that you have on your strat?

  • Great info, awesome brother!

  • i suck at solo's. I should get arrested, lol. This helped me though

  • Mate rating for this 5\5 I think this is great info.....wish i could have found this years ago....keep up the great work it is highly appreciated...

  • What guitar is that? Is it just a normal Fender Strat or something fancier?

  • very clear and interessant lesson, thank you.

  • damn,I really want ot know how to play the guitar but all these keys are just confusing me,some says I shuld learn them and some say I shouldn't and just improvise(play some). But how the hell can I mprovise if I can't even know what I'm playing? I've learn't some licks on the guitar but I feel like I don't want to know them lol. I just want to be able to dish out some licks of my own.Should I learn keys? Should I learn anything? or should I just play some sht that I don't understand what is? :/

  • @zykos1 learn some basic lines and scales and then just use your ears til you find something that sounds good, ones you get used to where your fingers go to lead into notes they'll just follow your head into what sounds you wanna hear. it's like singing through your fingers

  • @TheHugh4893 thanks man! will try that!

  • @zykos1 Uhh, I would learn how to play first before worrying about how to solo.

  • @Klassenex I've got all of the seven chords down, all of the musical alphabet(only 7 notes) and where and what notes which are on the fretboard,I've also learned the first position of the pentatonic scale AND that I can move that scale to whichever note I want on the E string, but, back to what you stated...Do you have any useful tips for me now?

  • @zykos1 yeah i do, dont start you question with, "damn i really want to know to play guitar" if you already know how to play guitar. -.-"

  • @Klassenex I learned all of that AFTER I've posted the comment, should've probably removed it :P

  • I don't know what the key of C is :D

  • i love your lessons, every now and then it just clicks! too bad it is the middle of the night and i cant put it into practice...

  • I dont know what all these words mean D:

  • I have been playing guitar for a few years now, on and off. I want to learn how to solo and all everyone has been telling me is to learn the scales. My concern is that learning scales is one thing, knowing how they apply to the fretboard and songs is another.

I think you are a good teacher and i am looking forward to visiting your site.

    will be in contact

  • @mrbajan listen to them, the pentatonic scale is my favorite, and it's simple to learn(less notes). But soloing is basically a compilation of a bunch of different riffs. So what you can do is just screw around making some up yourself, and stealing some from songs you already know. Learn some guitar solos that were already made up and take stuff from that. At least that's how I learned. Hope this helps

  • @mrbajan I also hear that people solo better when they're drug induced(wouldn't recommend) but i don't know personally

  • hey andrew i need some help i want to learn solos but i dont know the scales or pentatonics and that stuff but i know everything else except the lead stuff and i want to stary playing lead guitar and learning so is it a must to learn all the scales and stuff PS(ive been playing for more than a year )

  • What a great way to explain extended pentatonics! Beginner and unsure guitarists would find this amazingly helpful!

    Thanks Andrew.

  • megadeth kicks ass!!!!!!

  • just after this video. I learnd how to do a solo! :)

  • "And some couldn't even tell me what the third chord in the Key of C was *Laughs*"

    ...Oh shit.

  • i cant just pick up my guitar and start soloing the only i can get a solo that i like is by playing with a band its only when i have a drummer and a rhythm guitar playing along side me when i can actually compose or play a solo.

that would be my advise to some guitar players its easy to compose rhythm composing solo would be easier if you record or get a CD with some backing tracks that would make it easier, always learning scales does help, knowing what notes sound great with each other

  • @bulletkicksbutt the same thing I do

  • @bulletkicksbutt i wish i was more like you, i can play better just by picking up my guitar and start soloing

  • @halfhott my advice to you would be practice with backing tracks more it just gets you thinking a lot more about tempo and helps you to improve your ear skills as well. In my opinion is also makes playing guitar a hell of lot more fun

  • andrew. im pretty new at all this you talk about practice with a few chord progressions can you give me some of those chord progressions to use? thank you!

  • You are the best guitar teacher I have ever known by golly!

  • Killer stuff - Im a bass player but it really helps me anyways :)

    Thank You

  • thanks so much man for this video i was stressing out because i can only play but my theory is shit.

  • Thanks man, realy helpful for beginner like me!!

  • +1 sub. +1 like. +1 favorite

  • great video! simple to follow.. thanks!

  • Nice

  • Nice

  • good lesson.

  • your video lesson really helps, i hope you would make a video on how to memorize and use the minor pentatonic scale and when to use it :)

  • awesome guy he really got my head around some theory aspects that i was having trouble with

  • well yeah ;)

  • Great Lesson, I really love the way you explain things! Apart from the rectangle shape.

I'd like to add up, just to help the beginners it's really easy to find the notes on the guitar fret board, just look and learn the 'Magic Triangle' or PM me i'll be glad to help out. :)

  • Crazy when he was only playing those 3 notes it sounded better then most solos today

  • what i enjoy about Andrew Wasson icans that not only does he play the examples he breaks down the theory behind it. I would support him anyway I

  • amazing video man. i have a question though.. is what you did when you were staying in those boxes all part of the a minor panitonic scale?

  • For 3 people it wasn't simple enough lol

  • wow, i literally learned a ton in this ten minute lesson. This definatly gave me a lot more confidence in my playing. Thanks alot!!

  • i'm sure its been said already but thank you these videos are really helpful

  • Hey thanks so much Andrew! I just started soloing and have been only playing for 13 months and it's overwhelming. The less is more is really positive way to approach things. I don't want to be a shredder or anything like that but I would love to be able to pick up a guitar and be able to do a decent solo. You just gave me a lot of hope. BTW I have subscribed to your site. It's excellent!

  • Like the US Army says, "KISS... Keep It Simple, Stupid."

  • I hate his tone but good vid.

  • quanto cazzo parli....

  • Can you please provide us with a video where you simply play for longer than 30 seconds please :)

  • thanks, that helped quite a bit

  • Thanks Andrew. Very helpful.

  • Great lesson.

You make it seem so simple.

    Grtz from Belgium

    Guy

  • Sorry if the question has been asked and answered before, but I am wondering what is that black thing he has at the end of his guitar under his right arm?

  • @saginawpaw looks like a midi pickup, so he can send the signal digitally from the guitar

  • Love it andrew thanks for the wealth of knowledge you put out there on a weekly basis. Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks a lot Andrew. As always, articulate and easy to follow.

  • Just another big thanks!! I play bass, but this material is still incredibly useful to me!! You have a way of explaining things that makes it easy to understand. Please keep it up!!!

  • Andrew is doing an incredible service by putting this material out for free. I would have killed for all this info when I was starting out. Support this guy however you can! Subscribe and visit his sites at the very least. Hey Andrew, who won the round of golf? You or Alice Cooper? ( Bet Eighteen is his favorite hole )

  • @jcuchiara

Andrew played golf with Cooper? Gaah! I'm a huge Alice fan! Andrew would have to be a heck of a player to keep up with Coop. lol! Btw, Andrew, this is probably my favorite video on soloing! Great job and thank you!

  • another favourite CGS video

  • another favourite CGS video

  • I love soloing over few notes. <3

  • You are the best, special thanks to you. This was very inspriing and it all is a bit less overwhelming than before. I can't thank you enough!

  • I'm still trying to learn some shred techniques and it's getting better (especially the picking) but you don't have to be a shredder to play some cool sounding solos, using simple phrasing techniques, along the lines that Andrew is talking about here. I don't think most people understand the time it takes to get really fast and smooth on the guitar, free to express themselves however they choose. It takes dedication and practice, practice, practice! Thanks for your lessons Andrew!

  • this guys is awesome.

  • This is the only lesson that I've been completely set for, but nevertheless I still appreciate it. Good job Mr. Wasson.

  • great lesson, ive been doin things similar to this for a while but this put it all in perspective, thanx alot!

  • Awesome video. I know a load of scales in one fixed position but I've been having loads of trouble trying to get some movement going on in there and this lesson has sorted that right out! :)

    Thanks Andrew

    Your a legend

  • good lesson cool tips thanks Andrew

  • Another great lesson. Thanks.

  • very nice video!

  • awesome lesson, very helpful

  • yes, this is what I was looking for too
