If you watch it properly, although you cannot see it, you can easily tell from her body movements that she hit the police officer. Right after she yells "punching a fucking woman." you can hear the moment she made contact with his fluorescent jacket.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the officers conduct. The female obviously approached the officer in threatening manner. She failed to comply with the officers orders. She was threatening and disorderly. Here in the United States that lady would have been arrested for disorderly conduct. You folks in the UK seem like a bunch of hippies downgrading this officer. Having watched this video yet again, quite carefully, you can see that the woman hits the Police Officer after screaming "punching a fucking woman!", when he clearly only pushed her.
If I was faced with a large confrontational crowd like that, and somebody approached me from the side to hit me, I doubt I would have had as much restraint as to just slap her with what is clearly a light but meaningful backhand.
He again ordered her back off, but she didn't listen, so she was made an example of!

The police were keeping the peace until a black man started arguing with a policewoman. He got physical. So he needed to be controlled. He was pushed back by a policeman.
Then, the Woman in question decides to cause more problems by jumping in the face of another police man shouting "what you gonna do?" Goading the policeman. She was aggressive and confrontational.
Her childish actions began to rile the rest of the crowd, so she was dealt with swiftly to restore order.

She has a long history of these sorts of confrontations, and the official report into this incident was full of witness reports of this woman playing up to the cameras for up to half an hour before the events of this video!

Still couldn't say it would warrant him back-handing her the way in that manner. There's crowd control and then there's just plain old hitting someone back because you're angry. I'd say what he did was the latter. I'm well aware that an officer needs to get rough at times but he also needs to know when to show restraint.

You can clearly see that this woman's intention is to cause trouble. And in the official report, the backhand was declared by an independent judge to be a totally legal and justified use of force. Only the following use of the baton was considered illegal because of the time it took him to hit her 7 seconds.

You can't have someone on the streets who's liable to rage and attack a citizen without probable cause. I'm not saying that this man should have been permanently terminated, but suspended and reviewed, yes. If that's what happened and he hasn't done this repeatedly in the past, then yes, justice was served.

He was suspended and evaluated. It's standard procedure.
He was declared fit to work, once the Judge ruled that his use of the baton was a misjudgement. The "Slap" was in fact declared to be legal and justified.
What this video doesn't show is the woman acting up to the cameras for more than half an hour before the incident. She had been constantly goading the police, trying to get a reaction. She eventually got one from a police officer who'd been on duty for 14 hours straight!
