simply the greatest movie ever made...this movie is about the emergence of America that Mark Twain would be proud of. It encompasses so much in the world of politics, romance and humanity. The cinematography is brilliant, the acting is superb and it is the ultimate classic.
My favorite line was when Rick was speaking to Ugarte. Ugarte says, "....you hate me don't you?", Rick doesn't even look at him and says, "If I gave you any thought I probably would." Best put down line I ever herd.
MisterBinx. You are so right. Todays movies are mostly action with very little script or plot. They don't give us credit for having an imagination. This movie really has a story. You could read between the lines without seeing or hearing anything offensive. I wish we had more movies like this.
I don't get this movie. How come Captain Renault is so anal in enforcing the German orders when he's a French cop? Why does he leave no stone unturned like Colombo to find the letters of transcript? He's an overzealous pimp.
@leafyutube They weren't just German orders. They were Nazi German orders and this was one of the last vestiges of French free land. Renault wasn't probably feeling the most backed up just then. Also, in the beginning of the movie he said that he goes in the direction the wind happens to be blowing. And right now they're blowing from Vichy. (Major paraphrase...lol)
Movies like this are hard for me to concentrate on. Mostly because my generation isn't use to movies made this way. If you can focus and get into the story this is a great movie. It really is a classic. I'm a 24 year old male, I really enjoyed this.
@terrifictomm you know she actually doesn't say "play it again, Sam" its a misconception she actually says "Play it once, Sam. For old times' sake........Play it, Sam. Play "As Time Goes By."
I think this movie holds the record for inspiring the greatest number of cliques. I mean, one after another. And I'm sure the producers didn't intend it either. If that plane leaves the ground and you're not with him, you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

Classic... Another good one is when Nazi head officer is questioning Rick (Bogart) and asks "What nationality are you?" Rick replies "I'm a drunkard'"
casablanca's one of the tightest and well-written screenplays ever. so many memorable lines. personally my favourite quote is when bogart's talking to peter lorre and says,
"I don't mind a parasite; I object to a cut-rate one."
@TheHumbleNachos Why would any movie be too old for you? Are you like soooo many young people I meet who think modern culture started when they were born? Try something with no CGI in it for a change.
@TheHumbleNachos only if you like amazing storyline, spectacular directing, and great acting. But if not then no you shouldnt waste your time on such an "old" movie, even if it is one of the greatest ever made.
This is absolutely an incorrect title for this video. Im pretty sure any of Capt. Renault's lines beats this out. He just so happens to be, in my opinion, one of the best characters in cinematic history.
Great fuckin movie.. she is beautiful and this scene/song is so powerful..
In a shitty modern movie, they'd play this song again at the END of the movie.. instead, we got "We'll always have Paris" and "Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

Most overrated film ever. Are you supposed to get tears in your eyes and feel dreamy when you hear all the stupid quotes from this film and "Gone with the wind"?
@Gumbypotty Man you don't understand brilliant plot, dialogue, and acting. Those are the elements that make this movie great. Casablanca is underrated if anything. Lots of young people won't like it because it is black and white and has no special effects. I enjoy special effects as much as anybody but a truly great movie can get by without them.
best quote from the movie: "I'm gonna punch you on the ovary. Yeah that's right. A straight shot right to the babymaker." Oh good times back in the good old days.
Thanx Narvain. I agree with you. It is indeed the best line in Casablanca, though for God-only-knows reasons it has been placed last in the 6 quotes from this movie included in AFI 100 years 100 quotes. What a poignant and heart-rending line. It tells us how much they love each other, insofar as their short tenure with each other in Paris is enough to last them a lifetime. But for the sake of greater good, they must sacrifice their love. We all love, but very few can make such sacrifice...right?
If that plane leaves the ground and you're not with him, you'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.
I honestly thought "When that plane leaves the ground you'll regret it. Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life." To me that was the best line. I don't understand why no one likes that part.
@TheDirectorofFoo I saw "that part" first in a film by Woody Allen called "Play It Again Sam." (Then later saw "Casablanca.") See "Play It" ! Woody Allen's character in that one has, like, based his whole persona that he strives to inhabit, based on Bogart, particularly in this "Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow" scene.
