Which is the whole point of cross-referencing your news with different sources. I can do that, chinese mainlanders can't. One source of information simply isn't enough. If you rely on only one source, the people who decides those news decide your reality.

I was exactly here the day this happen. Unfortunately the TIbet protesters ruin the Olympic spirit and created chaos in the streets. Poor handicap lady she was attacked by the same protester ahead and this time he jumped on top of her and people started to mug her. It was so sad that the police didnt arrest the mugger but instead just pushed him away. I am so sad that the Olympic spirit was tarnished by the protesters who were very aggressive and showed no sign of peaceful demonstration.

She is coming to the relay point prior to the arrival of the second torchbearer. She has to be there earlier anyway, makes sense?
No matter this girl is disabled or not, the lighted torch at that time was more important. Since the second torch was forced to be extinguished, the lamp became the top priority task. The French police should have taken responsibility of protection as those men in blue were doing another important job.
By the way I do think that the girl should be better protected. The French police should be blamed. They got 3,000 on the route, but the poor security was so disappointing.

In general, I agree that the Chinese government still tries to control media.
But it has really become more and more free. Especially nowadays people uses internet. If you understand Chinese language, you can do some search on internet. I'm sure you will be suprised how well people know what's going on outside China.
And also there are so many Chinese studying or living in western countries now. I have never had any problems sending emails or photos from/to China.

Without wishing to start an argument, I must point out that referendums were held in the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) in 1981 and in Gibraltar in 1967 and 2002. In all occasions, the residents voted to stay part of Britain. Thus it may be unfair to compare those particular examples with Tibet.

Free media can only report what they see, and rightly so; if not, then the media would basically be telling people what to think. 1. They pick what to report from many things they see. E.g., only show protesters, but ignore more supporting people.
2. They choose what words to use to describe what they see. "uprising" vs "violence" vs "riots", etc.
3. They select what news source to use for the things they didn't see. "100 ppl killed according to Tibet govenment in-exile", etc.

I agree with you in the sense that an occasional slipup may happen from time to time in a single source (something I don't think is the case in the long, continued multi-national coverage of the torch-relay).
But I don't agree on supposed fabricated news distributed to every independent newspaper somehow makes it through without question. The stigma for having to admit reporting fabricated news would kill any news-outlet financially and destroy their credibility as a news-source.

Yeah sure, some may have access to CNN and so on, but it's heavily filtered. Whatever news that's left to use, a throng of nationalist chinese are condemning as a cross-national western media-conspiracy to sully Chinas good name, just like you are now.

I was exactly here the day this happen. Unfortunately the TIbet protesters ruin the Olympic spirit and created chaos in the streets. Poor handicap lady she was attacked by the same protester ahead and this time he jumped on top of her and people started to mug her. It was so sad that the police didnt arrest the mugger but instead just pushed him away. I am so sad that the Olympic spirit was tarnished by the protesters who were very aggressive and showed no sign of peaceful demonstration.

France should not be blamed just because this incident happened there nor the law enforcements. Police officers are brave individuals who put themselves in harms way to protect others and deserve our respect. These officers did the best they could in this scenario. However, note when protesters with cameras came in to take close up shots, his attitude towards the perpetrator quickly changed. He even helps the protester up and dusts him off. to thoese people saying do not buy Made in China products. First, company behind all these products are not Chinese companys, second even thou some of the eletonics says made in Korean, Made in Japan, lots of components were still made in China. And if people really boycott Chinese products, they can just put on a Made in India or Made in USA on the product. So Good Luck boycotts u idiots

She is coming to the relay point prior to the arrival of the second torchbearer. She has to be there earlier anyway, makes sense?
No matter this girl is disabled or not, the lighted torch at that time was more important. Since the second torch was forced to be extinguished, the lamp became the top priority task. The French police should have taken responsibility of protection as those men in blue were doing another important job.

When will the world governments wake up and realize that protesters are ALL over the globe denouncing CHINA????? Wake up people and gov't officials. We don't want or NEED chinese products and we certainly dont NEED fur lined coats or fur trinkets made from skinned alive cats n dogs from there.
