i like the tape going off kilter....it actually add effect TO the music..<3 <3 <3 <3.....the music brings me to such places....yes is the most magical band ever....
One of the most enchanting & magical songs ever recorded by a rock band. The fact that they can play this difficult, diaphanous song so well live only goes to show what a supremely fine band Yes was. If any other band were ever lucky enough to craft a song this excellent, they would avoid trying to play it live like the plague. One of the things I loved about Yes - which differentiated them from other bands - was their willingness to play live virtually any song from their body of work. Special!
@BRealBTru You are so right. This song encapsulated the lyrical and musical genius of Yes at that time. The fact that they could play it live is remarkable, but they were (and in some still are) remarkable musicians. This must have been from the old Glasgow Apollo - now sadly a bingo hall or some other waste of space. A great venue.
@Doctorbeermaker Hi There,Sadly the Glasgow Apollo is no longer there in Glasgow....burned down.I saw Yes there a couple of times....bloody fantastic!!!!
i saw them in 77 as well at bingley hall in Stafford when concerts were small enough to get close to the band and not in some giant arena watching them on a tv screen , thanks fo posting , brings back sooooo many memories
Nothing like Jon's voice on Earth. Geddy Lee admitted using Nitrous to his certain essential notes only a couple times on albums but Jon needs none and against my chorus teachers denials, he is NOT using a 'falsetto' voice. I can tell the difference in my training. The only band to come close to their positvity and melodic arrangmnt was Genesis with Gabriel even tho Phil sounds just like him if you pay attention. Great footage! Met part of the band during "Union".
@CluttProductions I ask you, how hard is it to spell out the fucking album? Going For The One, whew that was rather difficult huh? Now let me find my favourite Saint to pray to, you know him dontcha? Fu is his name or as you would say ST.FU!
This song always gives me chills. GfTO is probably my favorite Yes album. I would PAY to see a clip of AWAKEN from this show....anyone??? Pleeeease???

Most beautiful piece of music EVER created. In three hundred years from now, this song will sound even more beautiful. I'll Love Yes 'til the day I die.
I say again:This one of the most exquisite, gorgeous pieces of music that will ever be created in GOD'S wondrous universe...a shame about the drop in video quality during Steve's bit at the end with the volume pedal and the Electro-Harmonix Memory Man Deluxe echo pedal(Jack breaks into cranky old man voice:"I remember back before the net when you had to actually pick up Guitar Player Magazine and READ THE WORDS to learn anything about Steve Howe's gear!...You young people today, blah blah blah!")
This is beyond amazing. I have the DVD of 95 % of this show. The Awaken from this show was on youtube. I watched it a year ago. For some reason it's not on youtube anymore.
November 1977, it was very cold outside. I met Steve Howe and Alan White in the afternoon as they were going in for the soundcheck - got Steve's autograph. Still have it. Thanks for posting this - where did you get it?
Mellostar22, where did you get this footage from? I'd love to know.
I wonder how many concerts Yes filmed in the 70's at their height of popularity that they're sitting on, unreleased to the public/DVD. Rumor has it that they didn't take care of a lot of the tapes and most were damaged, so the concerts can't be put on DVD now. Like this footage for instance, there are several moments when the tape appears to be disintegrating. What a shame!
This particular show does not look pro-shot; instead, it is a particularly well-shot audience tape. The QPR show from '75 is the pro-shot performance that has been sitting in the vaults, mostly because of poor sound at the beginning...but I think they could fix it up with today's technology. That show is too amazing not to see official release...but at least we have Youtube for that *and* this!
What an amazing piece of work. I was 13 years old when I attended this concert. Yes have always blown me away with their talent. I love this song that much I called my son born in 1986, Roan.
This was the second Yes concert I had attended. It was a magical night, the atmosphere was electric. When Jon sings on key he has the voice of an angel. I remember an old man & woman near the front of the crowd. He was wearing a sheepskin coat. Now I'm the old guy at the front (must be something to do with the eyes), tho' I dont have a sheepskin.
I am shocked. I was at this in The Apollo. One of the most memorable points of my youth. I seem to remember paper planes decending from the circle. Donovan opened the show and the next day it was back to school.
Chris Squire's bass is so booming here! you can hear it very clearly! :)

im surprised they can pull of this song so well live! this sounds like one that other bands would avoid because it's so delicate.

this is a one of the most beautiful compositions of Yes and one of the most benevolent
the voice of Jon is incomparable, like an angel. Nothing compares to the glorious music of Yes
and Mr. Steve Howe is insurmountable!!
