Gucci and YSL in big letters on your t-shirts..and you got ten times more attention as if you were wearing Hermes....it must be a coincidence that BBC was there to broadcast your action and that you have written a book..you have to confess that this looks like a good promotion for your book...
I really think you should read more than one article before you say any more about it - all the points you are making a covered over and over again in the book and on the blog.
RE your last point - I promise you, there are easier ways of getting publicity for a book.
..in the published article i’ve read today you were saying, that the only real brand is Hermes de Paris....well...in the whole list you have published on this site i havnt seen any Hermes goods,,,,,as a brand addict to i know whats the reason for wearing just "luxury" brands...we want attention from other people to be something special..you've done the best..you burnt some 3rd or 4th line clothes in front of some people who have no idea what "luxury" goods are and who were just reading..
..well..after reading the list of goods you have burnt one might thinkt that you have spent a lot of money on brands...but..if someone is into the luxury brands he will recognize, that those "so called" luxury brands you were burning are just all those "luxury" goods for the people who think they are something special if they wear some 3rd or 4th label brand with in big letter written Gucci or Armai on it..anyone can buy yamamoto or galliano-- he just has to buy the cheap line from those brands.
hi bonfireofthebrands...thanks for your reply...i have no idea who you are and what you do in life...just read an article about you in our newspapers (basler zeitung) nand it was written, that you were an addict to luxury goods...well... i watched your clip and i saw just a few cloths and stuff...after reading this article about you i was expecting a huge amount of luxury cloths and other goods that you had burned....but i saw just some "so called" brands as gucci, ysl and arne jacobsen...
Neil's Bonfire was a symbolic act. Donating the objects wouldn't have destroyed or undermined the brand. It would have passed on the anxiety from Neil to someone else. By burning it he destroyed the physical objects and also destroyed the emotional ties in his own mind. Since the products were as neil said a rip off. They weren't rli a huge waste.
Thanks Neil your book really opened my eyes to the way we're being manipulated without even realising and the sinister face of marketing.
im sure this was just a promo action...i havent seen any luxury brands in the clip..those YSL and Gucci shirts just cost about 50 bucks and the techniks mk2 vinyl players or the old arne jakobsen chair are very cheep to buy on ebay..im sure, all the stuff he burned or destroyed was maybe about 2000 bucks worth..just promo for his book..and since when is adidas a luxury brand????
Maybe read some more of the background to this story. The object was to destroy all branded goods, not just luxury.
The list of goods destroyed is available on the site and in the book. I'll try and post them all for you. I'm only sorry that my former possessions don't meet your expectations.

The artist Michael Landy took it one step further and destroyed ALL of his possessions; absolutely everything he owned was broken down into little pieces.
I agree to an extent. I assume that his message was that he doesn't want to be a walking advertisement and I understand that it was meant to be a strong visual aid to back his message. However, burning clothes (brand or no brand) that is perfectly still wearable... it seems a bit of a waste.
After watching that video I think... I'm going to keep my Prada, Galliano, All Saints, D&G Diesel, Chanel and Dior clothes thank you.

He could've given that stuff to the poor. What a lot of money down the gurgler..

I support his rejection of brands
but I do not like how he destroyed them he could have just donated to people who needed them. I am glad some people just took them instead of wasting
Wasting things is as just as bad as consurmerism to me.
