@superbran2008 Never thought of that as it goes. I just went by the Hub date, but I wouldn't be surprised it it had a wheel change at some point. Yeah, I think it could easily be 80's. Anyways, still a Mk2 Chopper and I still want have a tall frame Mk1 one day. : )
Have you got a chopper mate ? If so any photo's or vids on line I can see ?
@Brettledotcom hy yes i have a mk 1 chopper needing a lot of tlc in the back of my shed and a mk 1 grifter that i used in the 80's when i was a kid i will try to get them out and dust them off in the summer and take some videos i hope 1 day you get a mk 1 i think there super cool
@brakenlaker1 I found a set on ebay that I took a chance on and got away with it after buying smaller cotter pins. It was called 46-TOOTH-COTTERED-BIKE-CYCLE-CRANKSET-CHAINSET. There's one for sale on there now but it won't let me post the link to you on here for some reason
@brakenlaker1 I have just found another chain set the same on eBay if you search VINTAGE BICYCLE 46 TOOTH CHAINSET 1/8" COTTERED CRANKS. I fitted mine with thinner cotter pins and I've been getting away with it ok. Obviously it won't have the 'Herons' on the chain wheel, but it is nicely chromed and looks fine for a bike you would ride more than Show. And the improved riding you get from the longer pedal arms is well worth it in my opinion. God Bless you mate. Bret
@horselaverda . I remember the Grifter coming out. It was probably the first bike to have grip shift gears. And they turned the Chopper frame upside down and reshaped it a bit to make the Grifter, I think.
@horselaverda Thanks. I ride it a lot these days and it's a real joy to own. I now have Mirror Gold Decals on it and long reach pedal arms. Much nicer to ride and looks a bit more 'grown up' with the exhaust pipe picture gone from the Chain guard. Are you a Chopper owner ?
B*llocks what everyone else thinks mate, you enjoy your bike, I have three MKII's and happily ride them round at classic car shows I attend during the year. I'm 47 :)
you completely wrecked a classic valuable cycle wouldve been easier to buy a cheep one that suited your needs mate - i have an original raleigh chopper that i had when i was ten - im now 43 and its as brand new and worth a small fortune - no way would i even dream of wrecking it the way you have this one
@melvarnio, Cheers mate. Yeah, I've decided get my 123 window light working again before the summer. Not that the Chopper ever had a window light by design. I just thought it looked good with a red glow at night.
I've got a Mk2 prismatic too, had it for about 5 years. Although I have not had to modify mine, but I did have to restore the supposedly 'restored' bike to get it up to my satisfaction. I do ride it, it's not a carpet queen, it's an icon and one of which I am unashamedly pleased to own.
There's nothing like a proper chopper, and no matter what happens, I will never sell it....
@broggiemonster ....... Yeah, I wanted a Chopper to ride, as well as look at. The bike is a real celebrity. Loads of people ask me if it's an original as it takes them back to their Chopper riding days. It's a real Joy to own. Except that I don't dare park it anywhere that's out of sight for very long. LOL
Hi mate, They are not generally cheap. The Mk2's are cheaper, I guess you know. I only know eBay and I've seen a site called Chopper Trader. Be careful when getting a Mk1. Although they are certainly the best of the two bikes they were well known for being weak at the weld on the frame near the rear wheel. They did make a version that was stronger, but they are quite rare. They flattened the frame tubing near the weld, like on the mk2's. I hope you find one soon. God's speed. from Bret
Man that takes me back a bit, to when you all had em. I liked to stick to my racer with those ultra thin wheels that kept buckling when we all played Rollerball.
Can remember Chris on skates and Cooper on skillers as inline skates were called then..lol.
great vid, thanks for sharing...divvy smiles all round.
