It isn't all lost. There are many new orders getting a lot of vocations. They aren't defining themselves as feminist social workers either. Pray for an increase in vocations to these traditional orders. These new sisters need your prayers, as they don't have the land holdings and financial backing of the older orders, founded by great saints, who have cast everything off for vain glory, new age spiritualities and personal political agendas. Pray for the souls of the errant "sisters" too.
Although I do love to see a Nun in a habit - especially the traditional long Habit - The Habit does not the Nun make!!! Anyone who will make such stupid comments like some of the crap already posted here..... my suggestion to you is - why don't wash, Iron, & wear all that material/ garb every day and see how you like it. Being called to a life of Chastity is not the picnic you assholes think it is!!
If the gray-haired woman with her hair done is "suppose" to be a "nun", she needs to learn from example of the film in which she presents. PUT YOUR VEIL ON. If you want to "blend" with the lay people that you need to re-discern your vocation! We want our children & grandchildren to know what a "true" nun a "bride of Christ" looks like. And lady its not you!
The religious communities that are experiencing huge growth are those that witness their commitment with an obvious religious habit. The 40 years in the desert are over. Time for those who wish to reform and grow to be prophetic. Our young people demand radical change of themselves who go into religious life and are little inspired by those who are comfortable blending into the vanilla of the lay and professional world of existence and power.
