this is another quality work!!! she's totally superb, and he is too amazing
Guillem's beautiful footwork and exquisite lines make her a totally amazing dancer to watch, she's so beautiful in what she does that she seems so unreal and unnatural, sometimes, i wonder if Sylvie is of this world...
Can somebody correct the HUGE mistake in the opening credits...PLEASE?!?! Grand Pas Classique-with the Auber score derived from music taken from the opera-ballet Le Dieu et La Bayadere-HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PETIPA!!! It was choreographed by Victor Gsovsky for the dancers Yvette Chauvire and Vladimir Skouratov in 1949...waaay after Mr. Petipa had left this world for good!!
lol i love the crap lighting they have given them for the coda...her head totally disappears in darkness when he lifts her in her entrechat huit or however many beats she does...
Am I the only one at who hates it when they do balances like the one at 2:50? "Let's just stop everything, ignore the music, and take a balance that totally ruins the flow and movement of the piece." No, let's not and forget about it all together. It doesn't fit with the music in any piece and reminds me of a skip in a record. Yes, the lady can balance, but so can my cat. I HATE THAT!
It's not that she actually sickles in the arabesque, she just doesn't wing her foot much. You see this a lot in French trained ballerinas, especially Elisabeth Platel. It's just a stylistic thing. They're taught not to wing at all in attitude, too, as it breaks the line.
She might wing it slightly more, but it really isn't bad the way she does it. It's better than dancers that wing too much and shorten the line. The bigger problem with winging is that most dancers give up pointing their feet and it looks HORRIBLE if you're sitting up high looking down at the leg. You can see the foot in a flexed position and it's quite ugly.
i think the little grin she gives manuel at 2:40 is really cute!! i tend to sometimes feel like she doesn't look very.. mmm.. feeling.. if you know what i mean? she's SOOOOO beautiful! (don't get my wrong!) but sometimes she looks so distant.. but i think it's really nice to see her smile! :-)
but i mean, it's not like i've seen her do everything, so i could be really wrong! just my thoughts.
this choreography is certainly NOT by Petipa (it was created 39 years after his death). It is actually the work of Victor Gsovsky, & was originally created for the ballerina Yvette Chauvire & the danseur Vladimir Skouratov in 1949. The music is fashioned from Daniel Auber's score for the opera-ballet "Le Dieu et la Bayadère". The female solo comes from Auber's score for "Marco Spada".
A very low demi-pointe. Don't get me wrong: She in one of the most complete dancer we could ever see. Masters both classical and contemporary techniques.
I'm curious what you mean by plain? She has a clean unfussy line. But this is not a bad characteristic. So, please tell us what you mean by plain. Thanks.
Wow that was absolutely amazing!!! Sylvie and her extensions were absolutely gorgeous and Manuel's jumps, especially around the 8:00 time period were just amazing!!
I lot of ballerinas don't wear toe pads. I never wore them, found they inhibited my performance. She just wears tape. I only used masking tape during my career and knew a lot of other dancers who did the same. Toe pads were actually discouraged strongly when i was dancing.
The choreography for this pas is not the work of Petipa, but rather of the choreographer Victor Gsovsky, created in 1949 for the grat ballerina Yvette Chauvire & the danseur Vladimir Skouratov @ the Theatre des Champs-Elysees in Paris. The 1st US performed was by Cynthia Gregory & Ted Kivitt. The music is by Auber, taken from his 1830 opera-ballet "Le dieu et la bayadère", in which the great Marie Taglioni performed @ the old Paris Opera. Ballet is an artform RIPE with incorrect credits.....

Unforunately I don't think it was commercialised. It used to be given on cable channels around 10 years ago. that is how I got it.
Such a pity Sylvie Guillem refuses to be filmed (unless when she handles everything and never in the classical ballet repertoire). She is 'heartless" for us fans !
