DisasterArea are generally held to be not only the loudest rock band in the Galaxy, but in fact the loudest noise of any kind at all. Regular concert-goers judge that the best sound balance is usually to be heard from within large concrete bunkers some thirty-seven miles from the stage, whilst the musicians themselves play their instruments by remote control from within a heavily insulated spaceship which stays in orbit around the planet or more frequently around a completely different planet.
I was at this concert, in the third row. I'm surprised I'm not deaf...
I met Bilinda afterward and my ears were still ringing, I couldn't even fully understand what she was saying (although maybe that's just because she's so damn adorable and I was distracted...)
Emma, that's because the recording equipment is probibly a cell phone. On one of these pages is a live cut of there last show (I think) in Japan. It's professionaly done (yes I can't spell). The song is off of Loveless.
Check it out....
p.s. they are still the loudest band I've ever seen, and I've seen a few :] loud bands that is.
@KozmoJ68 It was recorded on a digital camera. Without professional equipment, any consumer-grade microphone will be clipped out with those sound levels.
Look, I like most of Loveless and Isn't Anything and a lot songs that are only on eps, but this is horrible. Every live MBV video I have seen and heard has been.
They weren't really playing a song here. It was just super loud noise. I doubt many pocket camera microphones will be able to handle that decibel level well, which is why you won't hear a clear recording.

I seriously hope this band dies. If the staff at APW didn't provide earplugs, I might not be alive. It's 5 hours later and my ears are still ringing (granted Tool played soon thereafter). I found a bunch of new bands to enjoy at APW, but after everything i just hope MBV gets in a tragic Bus accident.
went to see them (ABSOLUTELY AMAZING BTW), watched it without earplugs (except for the holocaust) and was fine..my ears were recovered within an hour. the loudness is so important to their show it changes their performance from a song to a whole body experience. your ears get blasted, your eyes get blasted, your body even gets blasted from sound waves that you can FEEL under clothes. Its a full body experience which is what they go for, its friggin awesome!
dude, if you listened to them - especially this part - with no earplugs, you definitely had some hearing damage, who are you kidding. its like standing in an airplane hangar with a massive jet engine in front of you for 20 mins. i wore industrial-strength ear plugs for the show i went to and it was still loud (and amazing). i agree with what you say about this being a full-body experience, tho... incredible.
i just saw them at the all points west festival. i've never seen a more confused crowd. I did this without any headphones. Honestly I dont think that physics really allows their music to sound right live. maybe it was just the show.
Anybody else who saw this show having hearing issues. Stood on the floor up front off to the left. Wore earplugs the whole show and stayed for this part too. Ears not the same, not pleased with myself or the experience. I mean why would a band play so loud that they would alter peoples hearing when they wore earplugs. I am not a kid and that is what makes it unfortunate, I am upset with myself.
i thought they sounded great, ... and then the 20 minutes of the apocalypse came around and that was just ridiculous. I was on the side watching the people in the front row, I thought they're heads were about to explode, they looked like zombies. I can appreciate noise, but that was pointless.
THE loudest show I have ever seen (I was there). The endurance this band had for this 10 minute noise fest, on top of the entire show, was unreal. Colm was great on drums, Kevin and Bilinda on guitars, Deb on Bass.... Great show from MBV! Thanks MBV for coming around again! My next question is when will Dean and Toni from Curve come around?
Whats really sad is that the reviewers are saying that the MBV reunion only proves that guitars are obsolete. What do these reviewers want? Do they want a drum machine do go through all those fx? Or a turntable scratching going through all that? I know:they want to hear their own reviews read through a microphone through all the gtr fx.
Agreed. The problem is that people are too focused on whatever politics they make of this reunion, rather than focusing on the only important aspect itself: music.
The video here doesn't do it justice although it is a cool reminder. You literally felt the sound hit you with air for the entire time. It was like a rocket taking off or explosion over and over. I felt like I was being shot with an air machine gun in addition to the sound. My skin was crawling. The floor shook. It was unreal.
I was there last night standing a little to the left of where this was shot. Total sonic assault that made me trip out a little. It was a unique experience. It went on forever (or 20 minutes I lost count lol) then the song kicked back in.
It was transcendent. Just an amazing show. Loudest show ever. Best show ever. Best thing fucking ever. Best band ever. They are on another level. They are from Mars or something. Just out of this world.
