The ultramodern city is Dandong, China, and the smaller looking town on the DPRK side is Sinuiju. The reason the Korean half of the bridge is missing is because it was bombed during the Korean war. The DPRK decided to disassemble what was left.

Yes, one can travel to North Korea by train. The video shows the train ride from Dandong (China) to Sinuiju. There are 4 weekly trains Beijing - Pyongyang using this line.
Last year I entered North Korea by train from Russia, a railway line which is officially closed for tourists. See vienna-pyongyang. blogspot. com

To be honest, North Korea has it's problems but I don't think it's as bad as the media let on. I mean has anyone seen the state of Detroit or New Orleans recently? Those places are in POVERTY in the United States! I'm not Communist but the fact is - all countries have their problems. In Britain, we have poor areas. North Korea has it's poverty primarily in the rural areas. It's a fact - every country is gonna have poor areas.

Only the army and the people tourists are allowed to see live relatively decent lives. You can get to North Korea via China. Just cross the border by crossing the river that separates China and North Korea. They have a remodeled concentration camp waiting just for you... Good luck

What you don't see is the propaganda deitifying kim il sung and his son. You don't see the restrictions that prevent their citizens from freely traveling their own country. You don't see the extreme poverty in the countryside. You don't see the labor camps for those not sucking up to the regime. etc. etc.
If you can totally ignore all that, then the DPRK does look nice to the smallest degree.

It only looks nice because you had a guide with you, and only took you to the places that you were permitted to see and they wanted you to see, and were told what you were and weren't allowed to film.
