Organization seemed to be the key. To get huge masses of properly matched men and materials to the right place at the right time in the right order with the swiftness required to even grasp survival — to wrestle an infinitely complex and confusing reality into the abstract shape of victory — organization, it seemed, might even outrank courage as a soldierly virtue.
Blitzkrieg myth has many holes. So much so that the one of the primary reasons for it seems to be a propaganda cover for the leadership failure of Germany's enemies.
Look into what recent historians are pointing out. Accurate history has to wait until the generation that lived it passes on. Leaders are especially prone to lying, for many reasons. The reality is much more interesting than the glossed-over myths.
In retrospect, Hitler was a daring and brilliant politician, but his military decisions were a disaster! He should have delegated ALL (100%) of his strategic decision making.
@alexshoot That was just about how they did it. The U.S. forces did a high-speed armored invasion (a.k.a. blitzkrieg) from Kuwait and rushed all the way to Baghdad. Conventionally, the war should have ended in 2003 when Baghdad fell to our forces, but Iraqi insurgents continued to resist against American tanks and air power. That's something blitzkrieg can't fight against effectively: irregular warfare.
honestly i cant even imagine doing this. I mean, what if your country, regardless of which one, invaded another for the sole purpose of conquering and overtaking it? would you fight for your country still, or would you sit back and say no? like honestly its amazing what went on in ww2
@motosportjunkie You have to look at it from the german youth's perspective. The treaty of versail crushed all the german peoples will, when hitler cam to power he told them that they could have everything they had and more. With the great depression AND the treaty crushing will and hope.

@thatamazinggeek Vast resources? are you kidding me. It had no significant resources - that's why they had to waste men and machine to take Norway. Italy was a terrible ally, it hinder Germany from starting Barbarossa earlier and wasted resources in Africa and Greece. Romania sent a few brigades. Finland contributed little. Overall, 3 million Germans on the Eastern Front were facing 10 million Russians. And a few hundred thousand on the West were facing 2 million Allied soldiers.
@thatamazinggeek They fought them all over a 6 year period.. that's a small time to fight 53 countries. Yes.. over 10 million Russians came from the East and over 1,200,00 fresh American, British, Polish and French came in on D-Day. They also had the million + Allied troops coming up through Italy. Romanian units were responsible for the breakdown in Stalingrad. Germany didn't enter 'Total war' for everything (economy, social etc) untill about 1944. Now tell me that doesn't amaze you.
@thatamazinggeek So? Germany was fighting over 53 countries (3 of them being superpowers) and only had one ally, who were very weak and hinder them at all times.
Those German men in the Wehrmacht managed to hold off all those countries for 6 years, and conquer most of Europe.
@Olamtir Nazi Germany won at that time because THEY WERE MORE PREPARED FOR THE WAR, BRITAIN WAS WAR-TORN AT THAT TIME, PEOPLE WANTED TO PRESERVE PEACE A LONG AS POSSIBLE, BUT THEN, "KA-BOOM!, BANG! BANG! BANG!" and almost all Europe nations fell (except Britain and Soviet Russia of course)
the battle of kursk was almost 2 million Russians their 5000 tanks vs 700,000 Germans and 3000 tanks. the Germans did very well considering how they were out numbered
Towards the end of the war, Germany used younger and younger soldiers. More and more of them relied on drugs or alcohol for courage and endurance.
A short time later, Kiel pharmacologist Gerhard Orzechowski presented Heye with a pill code-named D-IX. It contained five milligrams of cocaine, three milligrams of Pervitin and five milligrams of Eukodal (a morphine-based painkiller)
The sucker could have taken the whole world, but he refused to listen to his generals. Good for us though, but damn, he wasted his potential we are very, very lucky that we won the war.

@saltzr No, actually, you're both wrong. Do some independent research, don't just parrot what the History Channel tells you. I am reading three books right now that deal with certain misconceptions and myths about the German Army during the pre-war and WWII era. I'd be happy to recommend some books though.
@1Mafioso4 Oh, look, another braindead american. Just as suspected. No wonder your country never won a war, i guess it's hard to win if everyone is retarded.
@56KbModem your the one thats looking like an idiot they did throw spears and they did charge the fucking germans with cavalry (this has been documented by numerous sources, including TIME magazine), i dont know why your taking it as an insult, the fact that they did that goes to show how brave, and patriotic the Polish soldiers were
@1Mafioso4 "In contrast with its traditional role in armed conflicts of the past, the cavalry was no longer seen as a unit capable of breaking through enemy lines. It was used as a mobile reserve of the Polish armies and was using mostly infantry tactics:the soldiers dismounted before the battle and fought as a standard (yet fast)infantry. Despite media reports of the time, particularly in respect of the Battle of Krojanty, no cavalry charges were made by the Polish Cavalry against German tanks.
@1Mafioso4 "Contrary to German propaganda, Polish cavalry brigades never charged tanks with their sabres or lances as they were equipped with anti-tank weapons such as 37 mm Bofors wz.36 (exported to UK as Ordnance Q.F. 37 mm Mk I) antitank guns, that could penetrate 26 mm of armour at 600 m at 30 degrees. The cavalry brigades were in the process of being reorganized into motorized brigades."
@56KbModem Ok first of all you just totally got that off of wikipedia, next time i'll be more specific, on that exact same page that you got that off of it clearly states that while the Polish did not charge the german tanks they did charge a german infantry position at the battle of Krojanty, i never said they charged the german tanks i just said that they used a cavalry charge in WW2 which they did..
@1Mafioso4 "Hi, I'm 1Mafioso4, instead of admitting i was wrong i'll draw a penis and completely forget the humiliating crap i wrote a few posts back."
Anyone who has to fight, even with the most modern weapons, against an enemy in complete command of the air, fights like a savage against modern European troops, under the same handicaps and with the same chances of success.
maybe you think that he was not a war criminal but like a lot of other officers in the guerman army he didnt do anythinng to stop hittler of killing inocent people
@TheMvessel they were the second largest economic power in the world at the time. German industry was incredible. It also had a larger population than England and France an
Yes he was a general, but to be realistic, he wasen't that stupid, if you take a look at what he conquered and how much power he gained from the german people. Yes, the generals knew that, but as fanatic as Hitler was he wanted more and more and more...
@MsMalaka123 hitler may have not have been a general but he was once a solder in ww1 so he knew a fair bit a about war and for meny years hitler had most of europe in his hand if hitler was as stupid as people see him as today the war would have been over quicker then it was
Anyone that calls hitler stupid is stupid themselves. For a man to rise out of nowhere, form a powerful political party which then turned into a powerful nation, create a powerful army which then ruled europe....well how stupid can hitler be?
If thats the definition of stupid then i most definitely want to be stupid.
@MsMalaka123 Hitler was never aiming for a large scale war. His war goals could be described as "Quick and decisive". Though yes, as the war progressed his mental stability degraded greatly and was unable to make logical decisions (such as Operation Barbarossa). However he was not a stupid politician. He was in fact a very gifted politician.
@MsMalaka123 hilter was never a politician he was a dictator that though everything he did was the right was and he was a messenger in world war 1 so get your facts straight
At the start of the war the Germans had superiority in almost every field of warfare and equipment. However, had they looked at the industrial capacity and resources of the combined Soviet Union, USA and British Empire they knew that they would lose a lengthy conflict. After the French (who were defeatist already) surrendered the Germans had every reason to believe that the Soviets would fold as quickly as the French. Once the Soviets stood up and USA entered the war the Germans were done...
Germany could have taken all of europe twice if the usa didnt intervene. you know, if they just took over africa that wouldnt have been so bad. probably would have been a service
@jamesfreedom123 nein, das ist nicht correct, its originally war, not warefare, because krieg means war originally, eventually it was known as warefare for the sake of a name for the tactics, but krieg means war
the germans had the best tatics in the world and could ave ruled the world but they were just outnumbered that was the number 1 reason they lost the were outnumbered
@lifes40123 ja..das ist correct what you just said...you may be oldest and strongest son/daughter in your family but if all your brothers and sisters gang up on you you will loose.
@Armyof9000 doest that mean they were outnumbered... :P..... the industry.. as like making tanks? yeah the russians made more tanks.. see the germans were outnumbered... german population.. 60 million vs the world mainly usa and russia with a pop of over 300 million... :P
@lifes40123 Tactics are always subservient to Strategy. Blitzkrieg was a poor mans way of decisive early victory that if not achieved turns in to over whelmed by the wealth of the opponent.
And I suppose you want to have lived in a world the Nazi's ruled?
@Darusdei 40Countries? That has what to do with my comment that the video is showing Tigers in the 1941 invasion.
From Darusdei "yep so poor tactics that it needed 40countries to even stop them..."
Let's see, Poland, Yugoslavia, Greece, France, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, The USSR, Egypt, Denmark. Maybe include Italy. Yeah, I see that adds up to 40 countries.
@lifes40123 no, the number one reason they lost was they were surrounded. They were fighting the Russians to the east and the Americans, British, French and Canadians to the west. He made the same mistake Napolean made. Moral #1 those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. Moral #2 don't fuck with people on all sides at the same time or you will surely lose
@unclet95 Germany's biggest flaw was producing so many different types of tanks. In 1944 they were producing Panzer IV's, Stug IV's, Jagdpanzer IV's, Sturmpanzer IV's, Panthers, Jagdpanthers, Tiger's II, Sturmtigers II, Jagdtiger's II, and a whole host of lesser AFV's. It's been said that the Germans could have won the war by utilizing all of those resources building the Panzer IV's and variants there of.
Actually saltzr. Dietrich Eckart was the real idiot. He was a top-Nazi working for Hitler. He had taken morphine, been a drunkard, and was confined to a mental institution. Even as a poet, journalist, and dramatist, he was unstable. In his eyes, though, Hitler was the real leader to him. He voted for him to lead, too.
Eckart was the first major "idiot" as you said, who acted as a "teacher" for the young and resentful Hitler. But he was not the only one. How many industrial tycoons, secret societies, politicians and military circles supported him heavily? I think many of them thought that they could control Hitler, who was seen as a simple mountain villager or as a austrian corporal. High-condecorated generals like Luddendorf and Hindenburg suppported Hitler in the key moments.
problem with the germans was that they had great tactics for when they where winning but none for losing, has something to do with pride is suppose...
Was sacking Stalingrad a prerequisite for capturing Baku and the greater Caspian oilfields? Did the Wehrmacht need to become quagmire-d there in order to accomplish their larger goals? If not, why'd they do it?
When I read all the comments on this video I get to I think. Think about Russia (Litouwen used to be part of greater Russia then). I am a-shamed about Vladimir Putin. He is more like Vladimir Puta. But, the wodka is still good heh. Agree?
As I am the great Hannibal from Vilnius I say: Tiger was more quality tank than Russian T34. But Russians more steel and man and tanks. Tiger gladfully dieeeeeeee. Yes
The Tiger was indeed a superior tank compared to the russain T-34 but the Russians produced these tanks in factories far beyond the reach of german bombers. If Russian did not have these factories, the T-34 and all other Russian tanks would have fallen victim to the Tigers 88mm gun.
Yes Yes very right you are Gestapo1940! Without many T-34's (and some other types, but mostly T-34's) and the many people Russia had to work in factories and die like pigs on the battelfields, Rusia probably would have been defeated end 1941, or perhaps 1942. Dumb ass Hitler decided not to take Moskou (with desperate crying Stalin), but to go for Wirtschaftskrieg ("economic effort war"). This plan ended in Stalingrad januari '43. Still happy my countrymen sieged in the end. Love you too Drac250.
Stalingrad is an example of Blitzkrieg not being used. The germans deviated from the operational strategy that had won them success in the previous years. Blitzkrieg or manuevor doctrine would have told them to bypass stalingrad.
Accually, Blitzkrieg was used at Stlingrad but then the Germans were forced into a long term engagement which they were not prepared or accustomed to.
@guitarbeast1944 right, and German air command committed to carpet bombing and large scale bomber waves rather than precision dive bombing, which filled cities with impassable rubble for the tanks
You're thinking of the Vietnamese TotalWarrior55. They shot at helicopters with bows and also threw spears in some cases where conventional weapons were not avalible.

@MsMalaka123 hitler may have not have been a general but he was once a solder in ww1 so he knew a fair bit a about war and for meny years hitler had most of europe in his hand if hitler was as stupid as people see him as today the war would have been over quicker then it was
darkrain64 1 year ago
@darkrain64

@womblewandering thats right hitler was a smart man if we think of people like that as stupid we will underestmate them and we will lose to evil

@darkrain64
I agree
womblewandering 1 year ago
@MsMalaka123 Hitler was never aiming for a large scale war. His war goals could be described as "Quick and decisive". Though yes, as the war progressed his mental stability degraded greatly and was unable to make logical decisions (such as Operation Barbarossa). However he was not a stupid politician. He was in fact a very gifted politician.

For those who didn't know, Blitzkrieg translates to "Lightning War"
allianceaddict 2 years ago
correction "Lighting Warfare"
jamesfreedom123 2 years ago
@jamesfreedom123 nein, das ist nicht correct, its originally war, not warefare, because krieg means war originally, eventually it was known as warefare for the sake of a name for the tactics, but krieg means war

I concurr, the Germand greatly made up for their numbers with tactics. The problem was their industry wasn't strong enough.
Armyof9000 1 year ago
@Armyof9000 doest that mean they were outnumbered... :P..... the industry.. as like making tanks? yeah the russians made more tanks.. see the germans were outnumbered... german population.. 60 million vs the world mainly usa and russia with a pop of over 300 million... :P

@lifes40123 Tactics are always subservient to Strategy. Blitzkrieg was a poor mans way of decisive early victory that if not achieved turns in to over whelmed by the wealth of the opponent.

TheDevilsBusiness 1 year ago
@lifes40123 no, the number one reason they lost was they were surrounded. They were fighting the Russians to the east and the Americans, British, French and Canadians to the west. He made the same mistake Napolean made. Moral #1 those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. Moral #2 don't fuck with people on all sides at the same time or you will surely lose
unclet95 1 year ago

He voted for him to lead, too.
obsessedwgaming 2 years ago
Eckart was the first major "idiot" as you said, who acted as a "teacher" for the young and resentful Hitler. But he was not the only one. How many industrial tycoons, secret societies, politicians and military circles supported him heavily? I think many of them thought that they could control Hitler, who was seen as a simple mountain villager or as a austrian corporal. High-condecorated generals like Luddendorf and Hindenburg suppported Hitler in the key moments.
KronprinzAdam 2 years ago
problem with the germans was that they had great tactics for when they where winning but none for losing, has something to do with pride is suppose...
l4mp13 2 years ago
To me the looks of a blitzkrieg is a fast-paced attack that becomes good as a sneak attack.
1. The bombs drop
2. The dust settles in
3. Panzers start rolling in
4. Infantry walking or running behind the tanks
5. Aim, fire
6.VICTORY!

Was sacking Stalingrad a prerequisite for capturing Baku and the greater Caspian oilfields? Did the Wehrmacht need to become quagmire-d there in order to accomplish their larger goals? If not, why'd they do it?
MicheasTheMighty 2 years ago
good question
fogofwar316 2 years ago
1) Hitler only wanted Stalingrad to be captured in order to say he removed the name of his rival from Europe. In short, No.
2) No.
3) Oh, I said it already on number 1.

DRAC250 2 years ago
The Tiger was indeed a superior tank compared to the russain T-34 but the Russians produced these tanks in factories far beyond the reach of german bombers. If Russian did not have these factories, the T-34 and all other Russian tanks would have fallen victim to the Tigers 88mm gun.
Gestapo1940 2 years ago
Yes Yes very right you are Gestapo1940! Without many T-34's (and some other types, but mostly T-34's) and the many people Russia had to work in factories and die like pigs on the battelfields, Rusia probably would have been defeated end 1941, or perhaps 1942. Dumb ass Hitler decided not to take Moskou (with desperate crying Stalin), but to go for Wirtschaftskrieg ("economic effort war"). This plan ended in Stalingrad januari '43. Still happy my countrymen sieged in the end. Love you too Drac250.

0:22 is army group north's 4th panzer army begining their offensive on leningrad
:P
and p.s. blitzkrieg either won the battle for germany or lost the battle for germany
they either fucked themselves over or fucked the enemy over
a perfect example of blitzkrieg winning the battle for germany was the war between france and poland
a perfect example of it failing and costing the germans tremendously was the battle of stalingrad
kyle887923 2 years ago
Stalingrad is an example of Blitzkrieg not being used. The germans deviated from the operational strategy that had won them success in the previous years. Blitzkrieg or manuevor doctrine would have told them to bypass stalingrad.
Ratmilk1 2 years ago
Accually, Blitzkrieg was used at Stlingrad but then the Germans were forced into a long term engagement which they were not prepared or accustomed to.
Gestapo1940 2 years ago
blitkrieg was made for large scale operation but in the city it was almost impossible to support infantry with tanks
guitarbeast1944 2 years ago
@guitarbeast1944 right, and German air command committed to carpet bombing and large scale bomber waves rather than precision dive bombing, which filled cities with impassable rubble for the tanks
