@osterling It acually IS a tutorial - if you follow the link provided at the end or in my profile to my site - this video is an advertisement for the multi hour long tutorial.
Hello, I have written a Children's book Series, The Adventures of Henrietta Hippo, I have gotten the First 2 of the series published on Amazon.com through Kindle. But it is just words, I want to Get it illustrated but i am a horrible artist. Please Help!!! Jennifer James
It's loads of fun and hard work too - you have to love it but it can also pay off really well. It's easier than ever to get into because now you can make your own ebooks and apps - you don't necessarily need to go through a publisher - pros and cons for both.

@willterryart I just started fresh in digital painting 3 months ago (absolutely hard) and you are definitely inspiring..I must purchase your videos soon! :)
@p0kediamond I'm all digital now but only for the past few years...I started in '92 with acrylics and switched to photoshop in '09. I new it would be faster but I didn't realize how much more control i would have. Being able to zoom in and fix stuff....yeah...oh yeah! Good luck on creating your picture book! You only have to believe in yourself and be careful of who you listen to...
@cgiwattgrrl99 It's a lot of fun but also a lot of work. If you love it you can do really well with it. Probably the most important advice I can give is to be selfish with your art - make it for you and it will be much better than if you try to please someone else.
Wish I could fill. When I scan in my drawings, make it a template layer & trace with the pen tool on layer 2, everything's great. But coloring? Yikes! If my hand, for example, has fingers and lines - it won't fill. I get big, white flashes all over. Can't fill if the paths aren't closed, but how can lines ALL be closed paths? It's kept me from having the fun I should with my drawing and Graphics. Bummer!
@pyannaguy Hi there, I'm not using paths - like in illustrator - I'm using brushes in photoshop so I don't have to worry about closed paths. Illustrator is one of those programs I've never learned to use - maybe someday I'll take the time. Thanks for the comment!
I purchased both the acrylic painting and children's illustration courses. They are both INVALUABLE! I have struggled with thumbnail sketches but the way you have explained this concept has helped me more than you can imagine.
After watching the acrylic course I now have a better understanding of "opaque painting". I have already started using acrylic in my (regular) sketchbook...I never knew I could do that! I will use your techniques to a science until I develope my own style. Thanks a lot!
There's just one problem: ALL THREE CLASSES LOOK AWESOME! and I cannot decide which class to take first....hmmmm....At any rate, thanks for sharing your knowledge of the profession. I think I speak for all aspiring picture-book artists/illustrators when I express how grateful I am that I now have a insider's view via videos of how books are designed and created. I have a large library of books on the subject of writing and illustrating so these videos are a breath of fresh air!
@carlatification Wow! Thanks for the compliment! When I was starting out and illustrating my first picture book I wondered why I hadn't had a class on this subject in school. I was on my own and so I began calling a few picturebook illustrators for advice. 15 years later when the idea came to create these videos I knew I wanted to pour everything I had learned into them. It was very time consuming but I'm proud of the final product. Thanks again - I hope I didn't leave too much out.
Will, you've certainly inspired me, thanks so much. I have been trying to get my books published for nearly a year now. Your style is fantastic. I find mine tends to be too "mass market" oriented and I'm trying to establish a more "trade-book" style.
Thanks alot for the awesome courses Will, I love the simplicity, your use of color, lighting and texture. I bought both courses which are very affordable :)
I hope you find some things that might help Toby. I visited your site and you have some really nice work. If you have any suggestions for me I'd love to hear them. I'm asking everyone who buys my videos to give me a critique so i can make improvements. Thanks again!
Not a tutorial. More like personal resume. Good job though.
