'The Half Hour News Hour' on Fox News tried to do comedy with an agenda. While it can't possibly be that difficult in pointing out absurdities and hypocrisies in 'liberal' media and Democratic politicians, THHNH didn't seem to want to do anything more than shit all over anyone who disagrees with Fox. It was a seriously missed opportunity and left people thinking that conservatives are incapable of being funny without being hateful.
Does he really think the ACLU are as bad as the far right? I'm with Bill Maher on this issue. Pick a side, Stewart. Don't stand in the middle wringing your hands and complaining about how the world is going to hell.
@GrainneMhaol His whole purpose is to mock both sides, though his bias has never been hidden. Stewart may be as self-righteous as Bill Maher, but I prefer Stewart because he's not purposely offensive. Besides, some of us are in fact centrists and find far-left and far-right to be equally unpalatable.
@GrainneMhaol because you have to be on the far ends to do something? sorry but the middle is not a bad place to be. infact. it is the best place to be. to not be one thing. but to be a little bit of everything.
@primeyuri I'm sure it's wonderful. You can mock everyone and never contribute anything substantive or constructive. Stewart and his ilk have done a better job of promoting apathy and disengaging from the political process than Bush et al ever did.
@GrainneMhaol "Stewart and his ilk have done a better job of promoting apathy and disengaging from the political process than Bush et al ever did." - do you honestly, sinerely believe that, and expect us to believe it's not laced with hyperbole? Because if it's laced with hyperbole, it renders what you said before unsubstantive and unconstructive and void of credibility.
If you do really believe that, then allow me to introduce you to rational and critical thinking skills - you need them
@GraeHall Your sneering response doesn't do anything contradict my point. While there was an element of hyperbole in what I wrote, I still stand by it. Stewart is a good comic but should stay out of political commentary until he has an actual point to make instead of aggressive fence-sitting.
Stewart, Colbert, Carell... these guys up there are as intelligent as they are funny. There is usually a correlation there. Stewart in particular is sometimes he is scarily smart.
"if you try to do political satire without your own beliefs... then you just sound like a politician." occasionally one forgets, when one's been watching colbert's buffoonish alter-ego for a little too long, exactly how insightful and clever he really is. what a brilliant thing to say.
I love how whenever John says anything, the cameraman pans and zooms in on him reaaaaaaaaally slowly, like the guy at the end of an old timey cartoon who pontificates about morals.
I'm actually having a pretty hard time understanding what he meant by the "and we're raising children" comment, which I feel like a complete dumbass about. Would you mind explaining your take on it? It would be greatly appreciated.
@gerasoras I believe he's saying that the rational, middle-of-the-road people are going about their "daily" lives, raising children, going to work and concerning themselves with practical matters while lunatics who live in the margins scheme and devise political strategies to govern the nation. These schemers aren't actually governing for the people but instead are trying to legislate their own perverse beliefs.
Stewart isn't even close to representing common people, he's just as much a part of the establishment as any other celebrity or talking head in the mainstream.
Really I appreciate that at least he'll use his show to bring forth some real things that are actually going on. They tend to leave out the scare tactics and propaganda. And yes hes about as close as it comes to common people on television.

haha yeah half the time im like in love with him and think he's hilarious, but the other half i feel like his humor is just... stupid. not funny at all.
lol why did 11 people thumbs up this comment?...lol..yes, that was said in the course of that segment, well done. Jon's approach here was kinda funny, the tortured clown...his point was a little stilted..corrupt/ knuckle head/duty led politicians also raise children...so Jon waving around his glorious sickle of the people was kinda...silly. Still love him though!
Don't go by the number of thumbs up or the thumbs down on any comment that appears on Youtube, Nunchuck. A lot of people on Youtube have more than one account.
A person can log in
under one alias, vote, log out, log in under a second alias, vote again, log out, log in under a third alias, vote again....etc.
A lot of people with one account will log in, vote. log out, allow an hour or two to pass, log back in and vote again. A red thumb reduces the number of green thumbs and vice versa.
Oh oh. You're on to me. Tell you what, I'll get rid of my twoeightywest to thirtysixeightywest accounts if you get rid of 734 of your elysium accounts.

yeah i feel liek he stays neutral on a lot of things, not just political, he has this quiet personality but then he says something out of nowhere and its so funny.
The whole thing would be nice. Anyway, I watch the clips.
Jon Stewart is a ridiculously smart man.
