Yo! I quit skating back in 1992 and have recently taken it back up. I just want to say that after watching this video I am glad I quit back then because in 1992 the stew of creativity had really started boiling and according to this video it took a bad curve. I actually would have expected skating to have progressed further then it has since I quit from seeing the positive side of it and this negative turn looks to me to have slowed it down.
oh no...I grew up with the burgeoning 'world industries'..first there were those foundation ads and the 'smc/world industries' ads..but alas, it was FOR REAl..they totally took over and had the freshest decks after 'H Street'. plus some legit riders.

Steve rocco famous last words: My rep as a used car salesman will in no way effect my reputation as a skate company owner. Anything he made POPPED but flimsy as hell. Dare I say a crook? 6 plys of thin maple. Took 100 years for that tree to mature now its a skateboard. A crappy made skateboard that POPS. Why god, why. I wonder how many millions he made from white suburban punks with daddys gold card. I'm not jealous. Shrug atlas, shrug.
big brother was crazy. too bad larry flint screwed it up and forgot that it was first and foremost a skate magazine. in the end it was a bunch of junkie kooks who knew nothing about skating
It's not about the terrain, it's about doing something fresh - D-Nav, Drehobs, Haslam, Melch, Ali, these guys rip on all styles b/c they bring their own personal flare, that's what counts

Got out of skating right about the time the whole WI (World Industries) thing started blowing up..Glad I did..Skating was way better pre-Rocco. Good mix of street AND vert/pools. It was stupid how competitive skating became and totally focused on the techinical side of street.
@whoelewhoele no it doesnt street is harder u got rocks and cracks to worry about a halfpip is not anything compared to street ur more at risk of getting hurt and nobody wants to see a guy ride a halfpipe over and over again
Ok, so I finally watched the damn documentary and I must say that it was a good film for a business student and for all the newschool techie street kids to learn how skateboarding got to where it is today. Good production value too. Just gotta say skating is much more than street style flip tricks. Long live vert, ramps, pools, ditches and STYLE!!
Ditto post-wigger dynasty era and post-grunge midway into rave nonense era. Bunch of breakdancing circles of kids trying the latest uber pressure flippity trick who cant even tick tack trying to subconsciously identify with some character in a skate video or magazine. Trying way to hard to be cool yet they were and still are just losers trying to find a niche/clique. Even skateboarding benefited from the influence of the yellow star years of the 90s but it always passes (feng shui thing)
