"heavy metal" is the complete name of "metal", that its a style of music. but there is a lot of styles of heavy metal... some exemples:

gothic metal, hair metal, power metal, fast metal, death metal... :) its more simple to say "metal" than everytime saying "heavy metal, blablabla"... :)
