It might be fun for thrill seekers, but senior citizens dont appreciate being flipped end over end or rocking back and forth like some out of control rocking chair. I guess basically why this? Why not just an electric hybrid bicycle?

@htomerif a simple answer to fix this would be front and back mini wheels so that if and when the vehicle starts to roll forward or backward the other wheels make contact with the surface preventing you from rolling.

Why not just a bicycle? i dont disagree with this question, but a bigger wheel gives you a much smoother ride, depending on what the wheel material is made of.

So much thought was put into this... except for the part where you approach a red light at the bottom of a hill. You step on the brakes and and continue to roll because your whole vehicle is a wheel and you've only halted the rotation of the inner wheel where you're sitting compared to the outer portion of the wheel. The result is that you get really dizzy right before that truck hits you because you've rolled right through the intersection.

your concept is flawed. it should be a composed off of recycled parts or mechanicals. creating a new by hybrid standard will be cheaper that way. Ease of maintenance and storage of your idea are limited. Transport to repair center? new tube standard sizes? No lights? A trike is superior for handicapped riders. what's wrong with a hybrid bike? they already exist, and are much more practical. sure, a monowheel- based design looks cool, but under suden braking it would simply roll forward. if you tried to turn quickly at speed, it would simply tip over. this has more to do with form than it has to do with function. please excuse the long post...

I am afraid that the design is higly impractical on most non horisontal surfaces. It will tilt sideways easy. It will roll downhill with no hope of breaking long before a normal bike, and it has a too complicated design.

Where is the real engineering in this? Break hard,you'll roll over, accelerate and the backward torque created driving the wheels forward will roll riders section backwards.The central section will act like a pendulum on accelerating and braking, with no way to get over this unless you use some sort of large contra rotating bob weight or isolate riders in a free rotating seat.If not, riders had better get used to swinging back and to like a Pirate Swing when accelerating or braking. KISS design?

I think he is right. Gyroscopic stabilization works on the spinning part, and it's a whole different story there. The driver's section does not spin, and if it has a center of mass anywhere else than the center of the wheel, you've got big problems rocking back and forth.

The problem with drilling for oil is that there aren't any cool marketing buzz words that can make it sound trendy and hip. Oil is so yesterday, the future is all about sustainable, renewable electric bicycles.

The problems with the DRILL DILL DRILL campaign are:

1) We don't have any extra oil rigs to deploy anyway and it will take years to build even a single one.

2) Of the areas where drilling is already taking place, a large percentage of it has NOT even been tapped.

3) Oil interests are merely securing more resources while refusing to use the ones they have now (see #2).

4) Increasing efficiency can stretch what we already have. It's not as sexy as idiotically screaming "DRILL DRILL DRILL."
